      *Sell the kids and move in with mum and dad.* I'm no Miss Cleo, but in ten years I'd wager the 458 Speciale is significantly more expensive than it is today. It's the last of the naturally-aspirated mid-engined Ferraris, and it has essentially the same power-to-weight ratio as the 488 GTB (each horse carries just three more _ounces_).

    EVO, you just nailed it by using the standard 458 and the 430 Stradale as reference. This has to be the most professional review I have ever seen on UA-cam ever. Keep this up... please and you will surpass everyone. Big thumbs up! And Jethro, you're more open now and are showing character! Good stuff!

    I've been privileged enough to have driven a speciale. It's incredible. The gearbox is absolutely unbelievable, it changes down the box before you've even thought about it. Ferrari for me are on another level at the minute. The naysayers will always disagree but as much of a cliche as it is, I've never known any other car go from complete every day pussy cat to absolute weapon at the flick of a paddle. Enzo would have been proud!!

    Fuck I'm sick of all the drifting in cars that were specifically designed to stay planted. If you want to go drifting buy an old buick and slap a four barrel on it. You could never drive that way anyway because your clutch would be wrecked and it would cost 40K for a new one.

  • @Dgannt
    @Dgannt 10 років тому +43

    It's clear why Ferrari is the winner. While Mclaren chases efficiency in numbers and wind tunnel and GT3 has to resort to AWS to make the car work (and that awful rear wing) , none of them offer the ultimate joy of play and control that the Ferrari has. And we have not even mentioned the beauty and sound of it. And it all continues to the next step where Laferrari is a clear nr 1.
    I know it's all personal opinions but I really try to be objective :)

    • @opmike343
      @opmike343 10 років тому +10

      Umm, the GT3 is rear wheel drive, not AWD. Also, since you speak of objectivity, how much seat time do you have in these vehicles?

    • @Dgannt
      @Dgannt 10 років тому +17

      opmike343
      Sorry, meant AWS. It steers on all wheels. I have no time in any of them but like most things in the world we can make an educated guess on which one is better. I've driven and sat in both type of car but older models. I've seen some of these testers compare them and the Ferrari is a bit better (for example in Autocar). The thing is that in the end, the Ferrari is more desirable. Period. You can have fun with the Porsche on track and it could be amazing there but it's no beauty. As soon as you park it next to the Ferrari it loses. No matter what. Just like parking a Porsche turbo next to a 458. Ferrari is simply more desirable by the vast majority.

    • @Dgannt
      @Dgannt 10 років тому +4

      *****
      I do understand the appeal of it but somewhere along the way Mclaren lost the focus and went to much for the control of the car in not such a good way. If you had the money to buy a Mclaren you probably have another car for the soothing drives. How many buy one of these cars as a daily driver? Even if it's possible? Almost nobody. If Mclaren's goal was what you say then why have they since it lost to 458 tried to make it drive more like a 458 and be engaging?

    • @Dgannt
      @Dgannt 10 років тому +5

      *****
      You are like some others are stuck in the idea about 70:s Ferraris being unreliable and that it's the same today. It's not like that anymore. Times have changed. Ferrari makes some of the best sports cars today and the line of buyers, despite the prices, conforms that.

    • @farnum3297
      @farnum3297 10 років тому

      that awful rear wing it's true downforce, not marketing BS, you will see it on any 458 race car lol. also did anybody else noticed how much the car was struggling to put the power down on each corner exit? was it because he set everything off or just not enough grip?

What is the best and the most unique part of this test is the short driving clip without talking or music ... you´ve done the same with the GT3 clip in the car of the year and that is really what I think is the best of the best. ewt415 Porsche is overrated mate, like the Porsche carrera GT being considerably slower than it's rival the Enzo, or the 959 got beaten by the F40 which is now a legendary supercar, or again like the 918 spider being 5 sec slower (!!!) on the 0-186 mph compared to LaFerrari. Did you see the drag race betwen the F12 Berlinetta vs the Merc SLS Black Series and the 911 turbo S? both got honestly humilated badly by the F12. So then again Porsche's are great but there is a reason why you pay them half the price

      Well, it depends how you look at it. It didn't have some things the F40 did but it did have some things the F40 didn't like for example that amazing engine which defines the car. Either way, I'm mostly talking about the latest cars. 458 is better than the 430 which was better than the 360, F12 is better than the 599 which was better than the 550 etc.

    People who say Ferrari is trash because you can’t modify it well that’s not what Ferrari is for Ferrari is something special another breed of speed cornering ability I can’t wait to drive a Ferrari doesn’t matter what one they are all special but the 458 with its naturally aspirated V8 engine is just mesmerising and I can’t get enough of it, although we are at turbo charging stages with the 488 and 488 pista the 458 speciale is a lot more special yes okay it might not be the most powerful Ferrari V8 but it certainly is the last of the true V8 breed adding stuff like superchargers and turbos is wrong with a naturally aspirated V8 you just can not go wrong I don’t care how old the car gets it will always be my dream car

    I love this car! Every car Ferrari makes is brilliant these days, its such a shame that Ferrari has become so cold and corporate now, there may be people who work with and build the cars who actually give a damn about the legacy that Enzo Ferrari gave the company, but now its full of men in suits who don't even like cars - some of them that is, this is in my experiences anyhow.

      What about the fact that Ferrari customer cars will perform nowhere near as well as the press cars such as the one in this video? Ferrari has also become quite unscrupulous in that sense.

    I’ve been tossing up between mclarens Lamborghinis and the 812 Ferrari but again this car just proves to be the one I’d go for haven’t heard anything bad about a 458 and as top gear says the 458 Italia is all the sports car you need and then the speciale being better I’d take this as a dream car and I’d have it anyday over a turbo charged Ferrari 488 even though the 488 is better to drive nothing beats the howling naturally aspirated 9000 RPM reving engine

      Such test has happened. The regular GT3 is a tad slower then Speciale around track. Some have reported the 650S nips 458 on track. The Autocar review was going to prove this but Ferrari back out of course.

    • @psttech4290
      @psttech4290 10 років тому

      Jeffrey Williams think the 650s took the yard stick a bit further than the mp4 did. as for the gt3-rs obviously there is only the old 997 to go from but its quicker than the new gt3 by quite a margin, around 10 seconds on the ring. Ferrari have a habit of backing out if they think they'll lose lol

      It is kind of odd when they have these racetrack and "road" settings for supercar videos is that they get these beautiful mountain passes with usually perfect weather (in the UK, really?), closed off to regular traffic, and they drive it at 11/10ths drifting every corner, disregarding lane markings completely. The track videos are in fact more dialed back. It does look great, but I don't really see how that proves how well behaved the car is on road, just that it can handle something only slightly less smooth than a pristine, billiard board flat racetrack and how fun it is to throw around a several hundred thousand dollar car that's not yours. There should be a third section to these videos, even if it's shorter, where you can see the car dealing with traffic, speed limits, curbs, potholes, and of course the whole crowd of people snapping pictures of the Ferrari with their cellphone cameras. Kind of why I like some of Top Gear's reviews where they actually have to drive *to* that perfect road in another country and show what it's like to live with.

      Yep. You don't need more power than that, and you give up so much to get that extra power you don't need. You can convince yourself the 488 sounds good until you go back and watch one of these Speciale videos. I just hope I get rich in time to get a GT3 or Performante or Speciale before I croak. Sadly it ain't likely to happen. I took my shot and fell short and there's not enough time left to risk taking another and potentially pissing away what time I have left.

    *THIS IS THE ONLY SUPERCAR I truly had my breathe taken away JUST WATCHING IT TAKE CORNERS!* I mean it TRULY stands out just by watching it handle, I love how it has a very controlled oversteer, and you can just tell it's *ripping with all it's might towards where your pointing it!*

      Is anybody else as pumped about the 458 as I am? I know there is, but I feel more caps lock is needed for how epic this vehicle it is. *It's modeled and balanced like a freakin' F1 CAR* , however it ENCOURAGES you to DRIFT (controlled-ly), it takes you past that point of maximum grip, and turns you sideways to viciously CLAW toward the apex your pointing at, it's my idea of the perfect handling vehicle. Most won't let you slip nowadays.

      I feel like they really dropped the ball on the 430's rear. I think they actually kind of messed up with the 458 because it's way down in the range (might even be the cheapest, don't know if they're still doing the California) but it's spectacularly better looking than anything else they've got. And the Speciale just looks like the Ridge Racer version of the normal 458 which I consider a very good thing (|'ll have one in blue please).

    THE RIGHT TO TRAVEL vs THE PRIVILEGE TO DRIVE
    The Law is clear, traveling on the public highways is a right devoid of any statuary obligations, need of licenses or permits, or any other form of permission from the state.
    “The navigable waters leading into the Mississippi and St. Lawrence,*and the carrying places between the same, shall be common highways and forever free, as well to the inhabitants of the said territory as to the citizens of the United States, and those of any other States that may be admitted into the confederacy, without any tax, impost, or duty therefor.” [Northwest Ordinances, Article 4]
    “Highways are for the use of the traveling public, and all have the right to use them in a reasonable and proper manner; the use thereof is an inalienable right of every citizen.” Escobedo vs. State 35 C2d 870 in 8 Cal Jur 3d p.27
    “The right of a citizen to travel upon the public highways and to transport his property thereon, by horse-drawn carriage, wagon, or automobile is not a mere privilege which may be permitted or prohibited at will, but a common right which he has under his right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” Slusher vs. Safety Coach Transit Co., 229 Ky 731, 17 SW2d 1012, and affirmed by the Supreme Court in Thompson vs. Smith 154 S.E. 579.
    “Users of the highway for transportation of persons and property for hire may be subjected to special regulations not applicable to those using the highway for public purposes.” Richmond Baking Co. vs. Department of Treasury 18 N.E. 2d 788.
    “Constitutionally protected liberty includes…the right to travel…” 13 Cal Jur 3d p.416
    In California, a license is defined as “A permit, granted by an appropriate governmental body, generally for a consideration, to a person or firm, or corporation to pursue some occupation or to carry on some business subject to regulation under the police power.” Rosenblatt vs. California 158 P2d 199, 300.
    “Operation of a motor vehicle upon public streets and highways is not a mere privilege but is a RIGHT or liberty protected by the guarantees of Federal and State constitutions.” Adams vs. City of Pocatello 416 P2d 46
    “One who DRIVES an automobile is an operator within meaning of the Motor Vehicle Act.” Pontius vs. McClean 113 CA 452
    “The word ‘operator’ shall not include any person who solely transports his own property and who transports no persons or property for hire or compensation.” Statutes at Large California Chapter 412 p.833
    “A citizen may have the right, under the 14th amendment to the Constitution of the United States, to travel and transport his property upon the public highways by auto vehicle, but he has no right to make the highways his place of business by using them as a common carrier for hire; such use being a privilege which may be granted or withheld by the state in its discretion, without violating the due process or equal protection clauses.” In Re Graham 93 Cal App 88.
    “The license charge imposed by the motor vehicle act is an excise or privilege tax, established for the purpose of revenue in order to provide a fund for roads while under the dominion of the state authorities, it is not a tax imposed as a rental charge or a toll charge for the use of the highways owned and controlled by the state.” - PG&E vs. State Treasurer, 168 Cal 420.
    “The same principles of law are applicable to them as to other vehicles upon the highway. It is therefore, the adaptation and use, rather than the form or kind of conveyance that concerns the courts.” Indiana Springs Co. vs. Brown, 74 N.E. 615.
    “The automobile is not inherently dangerous.” Moore vs. Roddie, 180 P. 879, Blair vs. Broadmore 93 S.E. 632.
    “The use of the automobile as a necessary adjunct to the earning of a livlihood in modern life requires us in the interest of realism to conclude that the RIGHT to use an automobile on the public highways partakes of the nature of a liberty within the meaning of the Constitutional guarantees…Berberian vs. Lussier (1958) 139 A2d 869, 872
    “Truck driver’s failure to be licensed as chauffeur does not establish him or his employer as negligent as a matter of law with respect to accident in which driver was involved, in absence of any evidence that lack of such license had any casual or causal connection with the accident…Bryant vs. Tulare Ice Co. (1954) 125 CA 2d 566
    “The RIGHT of the citizen to drive on the public street with freedom from police interference, unless he is engaged in suspicious conduct associated in some manner with criminality is a FUNDAMENTAL CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT which must be protected by the courts.” People vs. Horton 14 Cal. App. 3rd 667 (1971)
    “The RIGHT to TRAVEL on the public highways is a constitutional RIGHT.” Teche Lines vs. Danforth, Miss. 12 So 2d 784, 787.
    “The right to travel is part of the ‘liberty’ that a citizen cannot be deprived of without due process of law.” Kent vs. Dulles 357 U.S. 116, U.S. vs. Laub 385 U.S. 475
    “CVC 17459. The acceptance by a resident of this state of a certificate of ownership or a certificate of registration of any motor vehicle or any renewal thereof, issued under the provisions of this code, shall constitute the CONSENT by the person that service of summons may be made upon him within or without this state, whether or not he is then a resident of this state, in any action brought in the courts of this state upon a cause of action arising in this state out of the ownership or operation of the vehicle.” California Vehicle Code
    “CVC 17460. The acceptance or retention by a resident of this state of a driver’s license issued pursuant to the provisions of this code, shall constitute the CONSENT of the person that service of summons may be made upon him within or without this state, whether or not he is then a resident of this state, in any action brought in the courts of this state upon a cause of action arising in this state out of his operation of a motor vehicle anywhere within this state.” California Vehicle Code
    “When a person applies for and accepts a license or permit, he in effect knows the limitations of it, and takes it at the risk and consequences of transgression.” Shevlin-Carpenter Co. vs. Minnesota, 218 U.S. 57.
