The format of this video is so much more enjoyable and immersive than most UA-cam car reviews. The bits where you get to see (and hear) the driving from cockpit without any cuts or interruptions is really great. Nicely done!
Both extremely track-focused cars, but I don't think paying twice as much for the Ferrari is worth it. I've test driven a 911 GT3 and it is spectacular. I love the way they have made it so that pulling both paddles back at the same time is like putting the clutch in, and letting go is like dropping the clutch, for a little Hooligan fun, when on other paddle shift cars doing so would just put the car into neutral. I'm surprised other car makers haven't adopted such a feature. And they fixed the stick so it operates like an actual sequential 'box, pull back for an upshift and push forward for a downshift. I think the Ferrari is for those with a little more expendable income and who want to be able to have fun during a track day, then clean the thing up, and have the valet choose to park it at the front of a fancy restaurant. I've amassed quite a bit of disposable income to treat myself to a nice machine after 30 years in the aerospace biz, and the new Porsche 911 GT3 is definitely on my short list.
MrColdwatercanyon Nice choice. I hope you're having a great time with it. But yeah, it's on my short list. At the top though is an AMG in-house customized SLS. I've called and they can do it. Basically all the go-fast bits from a Black Series (the upgraded motor, the lighter backbone, suspension, titanium exhaust, etc.) but with none of the aero (like the boy-racer looking fixed mini GT3 racing rear wing). So it would look like a "regular" SLS AMG gullwing car, with all of it's gorgeous lines that are a near perfect modern day interpretation of the 300SL gullwing door cars of the '50s, but a Black Series underneath the bodywork. I'd go silver with a red interior, and black or steel-look brake calipers instead of those tacky yellow ones. Also on the list is a BMW i8. Incredible car. A hybrid sportscar that can get to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds, and do the 1/4 mile in the 12s. I really like the idea of owning an i8. I'd have a high performance hybrid, so I'd be doing my part for the Earth (it only emits 50g of CO2/kilometer and an average human being emits 50g of CO2 with 50 breaths!), and have a car that has the styling of a car from 25 years from now, and that could hold it's own during a track day. It is such a tough decision!
You don't think it is worth spending the money because you don't own the money. Those who own the money think it is wroth spending more to get the Ferrari.
MrColdwatercanyon ***** To answer MrColdwater first, yup, it would cost quite a bit over $200k, but it would be a one of a kind. To answer Amir, with the money I've amassed, I've set the limit at $300k for my mechanical treat, so if I wanted the Ferrari, I'd buy it. But I don't. I like the looks of a regular 458 more anyway. The lower front fascia on the Speciale is basically the same one from the 430 Scuderia. And even being the Speciale, it still just looks like the many 458s I've seen at car shows. I want something unique, thus, the custom SLS option or the i8, and the 911 GT3 is unique in it's own little way. No more "scaffolding" as Top Gear called it visible, the nice touches they made to the way the gearbox works. It's a great car. I wonder what the GT2 is going to be like.
i don't agree on the Ferrari being the winner and i am not talking bad about it, but Porsche has always been on top of everybody on track and more and with smaller engines, that is called perfection
Now let's hear all the Porsche fanboys cry out about "when the gt3 rs comes out, it'll kick the Ferrari's ass" but ever since the very beginning the rs is only ever so slightly better than the normal gt3, so in truth instead of kicking the Ferraris ass, it'll be licking the Ferraris ass!
Except the truth is, the GT3 is already on par with the standard 458, and the RS models of past have actually been noticeably better than the GT3 versions...So what was that about licking Ferrari's ass?
As said by reviewers around the globe, the RS is only every so slightly better than the normal gt3 and it isn't worth the upgrades! But the difference between a normal Ferrari and a stripped out Ferrari like the 360cs, 430 scuderia and the latest special is really night and day!
Pranav Mukesh not sure about that.....Jeremy Clarkson said the 996 rs was the best car drive all year. And they never did a 997.2 gt3 rs comparo. Its 100 hp down and it still goes faster around a track, and 0-100 just as fast. THe lap between gt3 and rs is 20 secs on the Nurg, thats night and day. Besides, Jeremy hates Porsches, he is bias towards Ferraris. Look at the 430 scud and 997.2 GT3 rs prices, GT 3 appreciated, and scud keeps dropping. 991 prices are crazy high and 458 is dropping to GT3 territory already. I admit the 360cs is a monster tho.
A GT3 RS would have been a more appropriate rival to the Speciale, but when time comes, Ferrari would probably pull another "no show" like they did with the LaFerrari lol
***** The 918 isn't the GT3, is it? The GT3 is quicker than a 12C around a track, which is a car known to be just as quick, and often times quicker, than a 458. If the GT3 RS makes improvements accordingly Ferrari has reason to be scared.
***** is that why the 918 is faster than the p1 around the Nürburgring? haha the 918 is faster than both the LaFerrari and the P1 on a track. (again I'm referring to the Nürburgring lap times)
That Porsche is a very good sports car and good value. But as with everything in life there is a TOP version of everything. When it comes to sports cars the best ones are always Ferrari. Hence the price. You can argue why a suit costs $3000 and if it's so much better than a $1000 suit. People who can afford the expensive version of things will tell you it's worth it. The ones who can't afford it will always tell you no, it's not, and they got thousands of reasons why :)
***** Oh dear, another one that thinks the best stuff in life comes cheap. Sorry but it's just a myth. You want the best in life, it cost you a lot. It's that simple. You can always go a step or 2 down. You get a desent car, suit or house but it's simply not the best. Again, Porsche makes very good cars but it's a myth created by themselves that they make the best cars. Compared with Ferrari they are second best. And that is a fact. Doesn't matter if Porsche makes a car twice as fast. Corvette makes also very fast cars and their fans think it's a better car than Porsche because it's faster for half the price. You see how your logic is wrong?
***** If any car is over priced its Porsche. They make the highest profit per sold car in the world. In most cases most expensive is the best, they just tell the opposite to people to make them think the wealthy are fooled into buying necessary expensive stuff the the common man can't afford. And there is no single reason a GT3 should cost double a Corvette. Understand your faulty reasoning? Things get exponentially more expensive as you try to improve the last bits. That is why the price goes up so much by small improvements. But the sum of the end product is worth it.
***** I totally understand the allure of ferrari. As I always say, Porsche is respected for it's tech but Ferrari is loved. Still, when it comes to tech Ferraris is second to none. Their engine in Speciale has the highest hp output than any NA engine in the world (for sports cars). Despite them being small they still create some impressive tech. For example, i thought 918 had the highest tech of the 3 super cars until I saw how the LaF was built. It really has gone around lately that somehow Porsche makes magic cars. Yes they are very nice cars but it's not like nobody else can make as good cars as Porsche. And the last 10-15 year Ferrari cars have been untouchable. They are simply the the best according to all test drivers who test all kind of cars. Some part of the price is the premium and exclusivity but the most is for the actual car.
IIproductionsII It's sad that people like you destroys all kind of civil discussions on YT by your lack of manners. Why your type has the need to insult others in a car discussion, I never understand. Try to learn that calling others idiot will not make them listen to your arguments. Try to win over others by your arguments, not your insults. Good luck to you.
bezor Ta What you´re doing comes close to lobbyism and not being objective. Shine a light on facts and not on untruths, don´t bear on something that never happend.
luv porsche but i also respect ferrari! both manufacturers produce the greatest sports cars and both made history for motor sports... when i was young and somebody was talking about sports cars i was thinking of PORSCHE and FERRARI! now i own a 911 and im so greatful for this!
I love this review. The way the reviewer laughed when he got on the gas on the Speciale was the same way I reacted when I stepped on it after picking up my 458.
Jesse Dix No, I meant the GT3 RS ! The GT2 is a turbo charged engine, which cannot be compared with a naturally aspirated engine, just like the Ferrari's !
***** Oh yea no ofcourse I totally agree but the GT2 RS is gonna be in the same price range as the Speciale. So it will be a good comparison non the less.
Ferrari cannot hold a candle to Porsche. The 911 GT3 has 125hp less and is heavier than the 458 Speciale but is only 0.2 seconds slower on the Sachsenring. The 911 Turbo S has 45hp less and is much heavier than the 458 Speciale but is 0.3 faster on the Sachsenring. So, Ferraris track weapon cannot even beat Porsches plush gran turismo. A GT2 let alone a GT2 RS would just rape the Speciale.
I am sure the Speciale is an amazing supercar but not too long ago this guy on youtube compare it to the Porsche GT3 RS and to everyone's suprise the Porsche came up on top. This goes to show you that Ferrari sends ringer cars to magazines for testing while Porsche always delivers the same set up that is offer to costumers. This does 't take anything away from the speciale which to me it's one of my all time favorite supercars of all times. in a perfect world I would love to own both.
A auto journalist once said something interesting when comparing the SLS Black Series to the Viper (Vipers was slower then the SLS buts it cost 3-4 times less). He said that, "Yes you can buy 4 Vipers for the price of a SLS but then you will have 4 slower cars then it" And when it comes to value i don`t think that it comes to much into consideration for a person spending 100.000k + on a car, they are not like us they buy more with the hart not mind.
Vadim Cucu comparison between a Porsche and a Ferrari is not the same with a Viper and a SLS. The whole price at this level argument is not a very good one, wealth is relative, 100k, 200k, might not seem much for someone who has 4 million in the bank but its a huge difference to someone who has 1Mil, sure they could both afford it, but one would have an easier time parting with the money.
My friend is a mechanic and specializes in super cars . He would chose Porche anytime Because as he says 'Ferraris hangs more on the lift than they are out driving'
I would take the Porsche (pronounce the E please!) The Ferrari will perform for a year, then be burdened for years with electrical, and mechanical problems.
Chuck Kerber Chuck like I tell everyone I spent just under 1/4 million on my 991.2 Turbo S I say Porsche any dam well I please because it’s my PORCH man.
lol is this some kind of joke? the 911 gt3 has 470hp and the speciale has almost 600, there is no question which one is going to win around the track, however do i think the gt3 is better tuned? you fuckin bet, i'd put my money in porsche anyday over ferrari
JUFFAIR101 911 has the legendary flat 6 engine, PDK fastest and smoothest gearbox in the world, 95% of the ferrari's performance yet half the price.... etc
Razatiger Ault Ferrari has better and more charismatic engine, better chassis, gearbox, sound, design, aero, better handling and most importantly - it has more sense of occasion. It has soul and beautiful sharp character, it's just inviting you to nail the others on the track.
Radek Vinš I do love F Cars, however, I own a 991 GT3 and a 997 GT3 RS 4.0 #405/600. Let's check the winners box. Hmmmm, Porsche has racked up so many wins in pro driven races that this conversation is of zero consequence. Both are awesome. I would like to grab an F car before they go forced induction. That's next on my bucket list since Ive got my P cars and a 4.0 Metzger, 6 speed ,shared with the RSR, Grail car at that.. The Speciale may very well be the last N/A engine. I'd love to own one soon.
Couldnt agree more. Porsches are so good they tend to put them in unfair fights. Just like when the R8 came out they put it against the C2S when its not even 4WD. I would still buy the GT3.
People keep saying that, but whats wrong with NA vs FI? They are already worlds apart. 6cyl vs 8, boxer vs V, Mid engine vs Rear engine... So no. Sorry but the goal is not to compare similar cars.
first off, i really love the 911, but i'm not a ferrari "hater". these cars are simply not my cup of tea. well, one thing that's been said very often is, that the 911 design is boring, not innovative and antiquated, but this exactly is the point, the big plus for the 911! this car has an identity, a special aura, it will always be recognized among other sportscars. for me the 911 is one of the most beautiful sportscars ever built and i love how porsche keep their tradition alive and stay with the basic design that only gets slighty improved from series to series. take all these plastic cars like mclaren, ferrari, pagani and stuff like that and remove the emblems from their bodies...they're all replaceable and would only be recognized by nerds/fans. they're like an (italian) macho, it's all about gettin attention and catchin eyes, it's all about the outside, the cover. a 911 doesn't need this spectacle. everbyody knows what is slumbering within. i bet a 911 will be recognized by almost everyone, it's unique. understatement par excellence! and c'mon guys, the bettle comparison is so damn lame and worn out, get over it! a 911 is fair-priced and a real winner compared to it's (mostly overpriced) competitors. you got plenty of variations from a track racer (gt series) to a daily-driver with sheer power (turbo series), a convertible and many many more. they may have the same design/shape, but each of them is quite different and absolutely special. and porsche knows exactly how to built an over the top sportscar with all its elements perfectly synchronized/balanced. simply great engineering based on decades of experience. a 911 doesn't need massive horsepower to compete with -on paper- much stronger cars. it's the entire package that's much respected by sportscars lovers worldwide.
Porsche for me please. And I will keep the £100,000 change and put it towards a 991 GT3 RS deposit and have just as much fun as any 458 driver whilst waiting for the RS to arrive. And all in a more comfortable, quieter and, in my opinion, a better sounding car.....
Ufortunately the Ferrari will break down often. I owned one. The Porsche on the other hand is bullet proof half the price though ugly in comparison is the better car. Mclarens on the other hand wipe the floor with both of them especially the 720s LT!
The Ferr wins looks and sound easily and maybe acceleration (straight line), the GT3 is slightly superior in every other way though, but hey, did you really think porsche would build a dissappointing car?
That rev counting.. man i love Gt3 but this type of rev counting, that feel in the speciale.. You feel like youre in the edge of car motorsport. And that is priceless.
You have to put this in perspective. I have driven 911's for years and currently own three: 1984 Carrera which I bought new in May 1984; 2011 GT3 RS4 which I bought new for 215K$ three years ago and consider myself fortunate to have found it; and 2013 911 turbo which I bought new two years ago for 155K$. The 458 Especiale is very difficult to find. I did find one at a dealer here in Houston that is being driven by another customer who is awaiting delivery of a La Ferrari. The dealer will sell this one to me for MSRP of 368K$ Plus a 10% premium for a total cost of about 405 K$. There is no reduction in price to reflect the fact that this is a used, even if lightly, car. The car has almost 100 K$ worth of options some of which I have not the foggiest of their purpose. I am having a lot of trouble justifying the purchase of the Especialle. To compare the GT3 to the 458 Especiale is absurd. When and if a 991 GT3 RS is introduced, it will most likely compare more favorably with the Especiale. But most people who purchase Ferraris (of which only about 7000 are produced each year) do not purchase them for their performance; they purchase them because they are Ferraris.
Ive owned a 458, 911 991 4s and other cars, having driven the 991 GT3 at the weekend I simply couldn't believe just how good that car is. Yes the 458 has the noise and the excitement, but £100K for the privilege over the GT3, I can't drive the 458 harder than the GT3 to warrant that cash.
I am very glad, I found this video. I haven’t been following new Sports Cars for a while. That Porsche GT3 is amazing. I wouldn’t be able to extract the performace from it for a long time. Maybe, one day though. (:
So are the P1 and LaFerrari vs the 918 yet we all know about the Nurburgring fiasco. Torque and torque delivery play a huge role in these outcomes as well as weight.
DrDavis What nurburgring fiasco? The P1 lap rumors are as low as 6:33. They've decided to just be smug and not paint a target on their heads by saying "under 7:00"
McLaren officials admitted their electric drive system wouldn't last the full lap which hindered their time. I believe the P1 or Ferrari still never posted an official time even though they tested on the ring extensively....just some hype I picked up on the internet. I called it a fiasco because the 918 is heavier and less powerful than the P1 and LaFerrari but it's design is better on the ring making it a little embarrassing for the competition.
DrDavis Chris Goodwin himself said that the electric not lasting was a complete rumor, and that one of the main reasons for going to the green hell was to tune the system for that kind of endurance.
Real Name I used to own the 997 turbo cab, it's a great car. GT3 is even better because of NA engine. But the look....Even Audi R8 still looks way better than 911.
Just something about the 911 shape that invokes a lot of emotion for me. I really like the look of the 911 but i understand looks are subjective. Ferraris look a bit too flashy for me and I'd hate to own one cuz I'd be too worried about jealous people keying it whenever i park it on the street.
This looks to me like a rather biased review. There is no track test, no times, no nothing. It's basically the reviewer's opinion. He says the Ferrari is "definitely faster" without actually proving it. Faster how? In a straight line? It better be, it has a much bigger engine and it's lighter. He says it's louder... ok? And it's a more visceral experience... hmmm that doesn't make it better. The Ferrari might be faster in a straight line, but is it faster on the track? I doubt it.
Can either of these circle the Nurburgring in under 7:12? No matter, on a serious note, the new ACR is coming, lights out for both of these. BTW, I'll take the GT3 all day. A gigantic ugly stick smacked that 458 in the face.
Sorry but I've never heard of this ACR thing you're talking about. I'm pretty sure nobody really knows what you're on about. And on the side note, both cars are great. Don't hate on the 458 Speciale even if you can afford one.
Ferrari has bigger engine, more hp, lighter weight, lower centre of gravity la la la. in term of which one would you buy definitely the porche then spend the remaining 100,000 you save and make it fuck loads faster than the Ferrari. i seriously dont see how the Ferrari wins in a practical sense if you were to buy one.
Its like compare the Toyota corolla with the BMW 335i and then said that the BMW is the better car one $100,000 and the other $200,000 and change. It like asking who is richer someone with $0.00 in their account or someone with a $100,000.00.🙀
Exactly like comparing a nissan and a bmw. An executive class nissan (Altima) towards an entry level bmw that is, E.g. The Altima is quite cheaper (half the price) yet they're both for "executives" The Altima is luxurious in it's own way, so is the bmw. Yet why does the bmw cost more? Because you're paying for the brand. And as we all know, Ferrari would do anything to protect it's name.
Nissan doesn't compare to bmw...as much as you pay for the brand you also pay for the engineering. Fyi the only thing luxurious about a Nissan is Infiniti.
CAR magazine is British and the presenter is British... The "e" at the end of Porsche or any other German word that ends with an e does not sound like "EEEE" when pronounced in proper German. It is a soft "uh."
Ferrari and Porsche are compared, even with considerable price difference, because they are the only brand to build real sports cars, designed to be driven even going slowly! Are the feelings that count, not the speed or price!! :) Porsche is more livable, Ferrari is more exotic but they are two excellent!
This test is 6/10,he do 2 sideways 4 times in redline and declare the winner of these two magnificent machines, you need track my friend for these rockets, and i think he is not enough experienced driver to judge the winner,he is impressed with Ferrari's acceeration that is obivious
Porsche GT3 for me, it's a much more appealing car. I find the 458 Ferrari boring and rather ugly and doesn't sound very good. I know it's much more expensive but I'd rather get a Ferrari 599 GTO or FF. Only question is, which car caught on fire first?
Torrey B It’s the Pilot sport Cup 2 my car came with them I swapped them out for PS4. Never get behind a car that has Cup 2 tires as you will be pummeled by rocks.
Not much of a Ferrari person, but hearing the Pillsbury Doughboy laughter from 8:28 to 8:38 helps me to know that this is definitely a wonderful car... lol
They never discuss colour in these comparisons. It's sooo important and affects mood. I say retest but include colour in the conversation otherwise all those numbers about horsepower and acceleration are boooorrriing! Also, interiors!
I would much rather have the GT3 (preferably an RS). Its movements are so clinical and efficient while the 458's are so elongated and drawn out. The 911 is clearly a better engineered vehicle. And I don't want to hear anything about how rear engine cars are inherently worse than mid engined ones. Tell that to an F1 driver. More mass and proportionally wider tires in the rear make the force of friction and resulting centripetal acceleration (how many lateral Gs it can pull) the rear of the car can produce astronomically high.
Ferrari is better than Porsche. The name, the cars, the heritage and they have greater success on track. I used to hate 911s and Porsches but now i see them in a whole new light but they still aren't ferraris! How many ferraris do you see compared to a porsche? How many Porsches sound better than a Ferrari? How many Porsches make you feel as special as a Ferrari does. Exactly and don't bring prices and practicality into this because first, if your think about prices than your on a budget and probably can't afford these and secondly, you aren't going to be lugging the whole family around the country are you? Well not in one of these. They are for driving pleasure and Ferrari does it better. End of story.
Cole Jones Fanboy detected. Porsche is the most successful and prestigious brand in motorsports. What history are you talking about? LeMans is the father of RACING and Porsche are to LeMans what Ferrari are to F1. Stop with this nonsense Ferrari make you feel special. Oh wait you probably have never driven a Ferrari :)
Cole Jones Ferrari is a very good car, but look how much money they need to build a car that isn´t really much better then the GT3, and it isn´t better then the GT3RS, the RS is still much cheaper then the Ferrari and look who won LeMans this year, Porsche AGAIN. End of story.
Cole Jones You're a peasant. Why are you speaking when you clearly don't own an exotic sports car? I know for a fact you don't own one, so please leave UA-cam, crawl back into your basement and never speak again.
***** Ferrari's make an artificial sound? You're a fucking idiot. LOL the irony... The fact that you're claiming that Ferrari's have a fake sound and then your profile picture is a BMW logo and the fact that BMW use speakers to enhance the car's sound... Pathetic. And no, not everyone knows Ferrari's have fake sounds, because they aren't such idiots like you. Unlike you, everyone's driven one. Ferrari's and Porsche's have the most natural sound of any car ever. End. Sad that BMW and Mercedes have to resort to exhaust tuning or speakers to get the same sound...
+The Opinionator Porsches are great performing cars but they are owned by Volkswagen. Not that I don't want one and I do like this one now that I've watched this video but they are owned by Volkswagen aren't they?
I love both cars, I never really cared for the 360 Stradale or 430 Scuderia, but the 458 just the basic drew my attention since day one, the lines the curves the way it sits was beautiful and still is. With the Speciale I kinda got disappointed when I saw they split the front end ( its grown on me ) and adding a lot of gills but stll the car is gorgeous with that being said I will still take the 911 over it. I just love the Porsche so much in general and wouldn't take no car over it. Its a drivers car period.
I agree with earlier comments about to fully test both cars it takes more than winding the engine out to 9k. Let's see there ultimate balance at 10/10's on the track. Both machines have track dna. Do a follow up comparo.
The Ferrari looks great, sounds great, runs great, BUT the shop time and cost is scary. The maintenance (not just the recommended maintenance but what they actually require ) is extremely costly and there is a LOT of it. The Porsche is bloody well near maintenance free but for 10K checks and oil changes, and the record supports that!
Thank you, it's good to see these 2 beasts head to head, i don't know how people can prefer one to another, F40 vs 959, come on guys, this is an eternal battle, I wish one day day i'll make enough money to buy them both
458 Speciale is a great car and will become a classic in its own right. The GT3 is an awesome sports car and probably would be a bit better living day to day with though. Just the thought of parking the 458 somewhere and walking away.....gulp The Porsche would probably be ok and blend in a bit. Thanks for the upload.
Porsche fans need to get some things straight here. The 458 Speciale is the last NA V8 Ferrari so prices will go sky high within the next 10 years. That makes this car better value for your money in any situation. Apart from that, all that Porsche fans seem to care about are times. The main reason I got into cars as a kid was of the driving thrill which Ferrari obviously cares more about than Porsche (Cayenne, Macan besides 911). Plus the Ferrari is better looking and overal more emotional. You just need to invest a 100.000 pounds more to be able to get one, doesn't seem like such a bad deal after all. Maintain the car with the right care and you'll even make money eventually.
You can never really compare these two cars, but what you can say is that they do exactly what they were designed to do to perfection. Neither car misses the mark, and you really can't say a a single dollar would be wasted when purchasing either of these two cars.... but thats just my opinion
The format of this video is so much more enjoyable and immersive than most UA-cam car reviews. The bits where you get to see (and hear) the driving from cockpit without any cuts or interruptions is really great. Nicely done!
"The Ferrari 458 is one of the all time greats. It's really is absolutely, unbelievably, mesmerizingly brilliant" J.C.
Don copy the words of Jeremy clarkson
scooby dooooooooo
Gt 3 is very satisfying especially on track day . I to had to choose one car and keep the budget moderate the Porsche was perfect
Sounds fantastic that's north of $200k I'd think. My Gt3 is mostly used on track day I have an awful DMV jacket
I'm a "porsche fanboy" but there's no arguing with the way he was smiling the the 458.... hard to argue with that.
LoL 458 is mega overrated.
@@LegendJoe3063😂😂😂 clueless
@@Bug4life butthurt🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@LegendJoe3063 No it's applicable for you!
i don't agree on the Ferrari being the winner and i am not talking bad about it, but Porsche has always been on top of everybody on track and more and with smaller engines, that is called perfection
For me the winner is in the blue corner the amazing 911 GT3.
458 has no chance against 911 Turbo S !!
This video should win best car video of the year, just for those first 30 seconds if anything! Driving ecstasy!! Good job team!
Pranav Mukesh Do show me which reviewer said the RS isn't worth the money over a regular GT3...I've never heard a reviewer say such a thing.
Eh top gear said it twice, the 996 and the 997 and motor television!
A GT3 RS would have been a more appropriate rival to the Speciale, but when time comes, Ferrari would probably pull another "no show" like they did with the LaFerrari lol
or like P1
or like Agera
***** The 918 isn't the GT3, is it? The GT3 is quicker than a 12C around a track, which is a car known to be just as quick, and often times quicker, than a 458. If the GT3 RS makes improvements accordingly Ferrari has reason to be scared.
***** It beats the P1 too.
***** is that why the 918 is faster than the p1 around the Nürburgring? haha the 918 is faster than both the LaFerrari and the P1 on a track. (again I'm referring to the Nürburgring lap times)
shmee150fan then you're an idiot because there aren't any nurburgring lap times of P1 and LaFerrari

What you´re doing comes close to lobbyism and not being objective. Shine a light on facts and not on untruths, don´t bear on something that never happend.
luv porsche but i also respect ferrari! both manufacturers produce the greatest sports cars and both made history for motor sports... when i was young and somebody was talking about sports cars i was thinking of PORSCHE and FERRARI! now i own a 911 and im so greatful for this!
wow that's really good. take care of it the values just gonna go up!
V8 100+ 🐎 power
Him reading off the revs while starting in second gear at 8:18 was honestly extremely exciting just for me to watch.
Wow I feel exhausted after watching that 😂, like i was actually driving them, that 458 engine is glorious 💥
I love this review. The way the reviewer laughed when he got on the gas on the Speciale was the same way I reacted when I stepped on it after picking up my 458.
With almost 130hp less, Porsche 911 GT3 for the win!
;-)
Wow! He is the first person who at least tried to pronounce "speciale" correctly. Thanks!
Let's wait until the new GT3 RS shows it's tail pipes !
You mean GT 2 RS ;)
Jesse Dix No, I meant the GT3 RS !
The GT2 is a turbo charged engine, which cannot be compared with a naturally aspirated engine, just like the Ferrari's !
***** Oh yea no ofcourse I totally agree but the GT2 RS is gonna be in the same price range as the Speciale. So it will be a good comparison non the less.
Jesse Dix Absolutely !
Jesse Dix but thats not gone be as exiting as any of the 2
it has turbo charger and that kills the noise the fun...
Beautifully filmed, engine notes nicely captured. Not specifically a Ferrari or Porsche fan, but both beautiful cars.
A GT2 let alone a GT2 RS would just rape the Speciale.
lets wait for the new 911GT3 RS
question of traction, anyway, amazing cars ...
***** :)
slower? faster from what i see:
fastestlaps.com/comparisons/porsche_911991_gt3-vs-ferrari_458_italia.html
I am sure the Speciale is an amazing supercar but not too long ago this guy on youtube compare it to the Porsche GT3 RS and to everyone's suprise the Porsche came up on top. This goes to show you that Ferrari sends ringer cars to magazines for testing while Porsche always delivers the same set up that is offer to costumers. This does 't take anything away from the speciale which to me it's one of my all time favorite supercars of all times. in a perfect world I would love to own both.
FERRARI cars worth every single penny they cost...That's all !!!
The Speciale is so amazing
Love both cars but also love the enthusiasm of the reporter which makes it fun to watch!
I'll take the GT3 all day!!
Love when he blasts down the straights and yells the revs, really exciting!
Yeah it performs better, but is it better value, with double the price I don't think so.
But it will definitely keep its value much better that the Porsche 911.
Lawrence Lo And it's more exclusive than the Porsche. But for just over a 100.000 pound Porsche offers a great car too!
A auto journalist once said something interesting when comparing the SLS Black Series to the Viper (Vipers was slower then the SLS buts it cost 3-4 times less).
He said that, "Yes you can buy 4 Vipers for the price of a SLS but then you will have 4 slower cars then it"
And when it comes to value i don`t think that it comes to much into consideration for a person spending 100.000k + on a car, they are not like us they buy more with the hart not mind.
Vadim Cucu And 4 far less interesting ones, to boot
Vadim Cucu comparison between a Porsche and a Ferrari is not the same with a Viper and a SLS. The whole price at this level argument is not a very good one, wealth is relative, 100k, 200k, might not seem much for someone who has 4 million in the bank but its a huge difference to someone who has 1Mil, sure they could both afford it, but one would have an easier time parting with the money.
My friend is a mechanic and specializes in super cars . He would chose Porche anytime
Because as he says 'Ferraris hangs more on the lift than they are out driving'
I would take the Porsche (pronounce the E please!) The Ferrari will perform for a year, then be burdened for years with electrical, and mechanical problems.
Chuck Kerber
Chuck like I tell everyone I spent just under 1/4 million on my 991.2 Turbo S I say Porsche any dam well I please because it’s my
PORCH man.
Fantastic video. Loved the footage of the Porsche, but my heart lies with Ferrari!
lol is this some kind of joke? the 911 gt3 has 470hp and the speciale has almost 600, there is no question which one is going to win around the track, however do i think the gt3 is better tuned? you fuckin bet, i'd put my money in porsche anyday over ferrari
The 458 Has better chasis ,lighter, mid engine ....etc
JUFFAIR101 911 has the legendary flat 6 engine, PDK fastest and smoothest gearbox in the world, 95% of the ferrari's performance yet half the price.... etc
Razatiger Ault But it's not a Ferrari.
IMHO mismatched. GT3RS or wait until GT2 to compare to the Speciale.
Couldnt agree more. Porsches are so good they tend to put them in unfair fights.
Just like when the R8 came out they put it against the C2S when its not even 4WD. I would still buy the GT3.
rogpaz Id get the Speciale because I like the Speciale but If I was going to wait Id wait for the GT3rs, GT2 or even the new Z06.
gt2 would be a terrible match cuz itll be a forced induction car vs a naturally aspirated car.. the goal is to compare similar cars
And all in a more comfortable, quieter and, in my opinion, a better sounding car.....
where was that filmed? in GB or IRL?
Two supercars incomparable. Ferrari unrivaled
Imagine what the GT3RS will do. Whose speciale now!?!?!?!?
What is rattling away in both cars ? sounds like stones hitting the underside constantly ?
A very good presenter! Down to earth dude
That rev counting.. man i love Gt3 but this type of rev counting, that feel in the speciale.. You feel like youre in the edge of car motorsport. And that is priceless.
How does Porsche make a 3.8 straight V6 that produces 460 hp?
+John Vu It's not a V6
It's not a v6, its a boxer engine like the engines on Subaru's but your right it's only a 6 cylinder with no turbos and make 460hp.
+John Vu 9000 rpm :)
+John Vu it's a flat 6 not v6. It's like the inline which are high revving and produces a lot of power.
luigi jimenez That is right. Forgot about that. Why don't more car manufacturers use that inline 6 or flat 6 than?
Tremendous work ❤
You have to put this in perspective.
Excellent review of both cars.. enjoyed watching that! Two great cars.. I like them both!
GT3 every single day of the year.
nice cars, nice video, nice landscape. Gt3 still my favorite one.
Nice review but in all honesty, a differential of 130hp will make the difference. Porsche would most likely have the faster car given similar hp.
Nope the Ferrari is lighter
Where was this shot??
Speciale for me over every 901. Thanks.
The rear wing on the GT3 is an option??
One thing about 911 that it would never come close to Ferrari : THE LOOK.
It looks like a racing version of VW Bettle.
u dumb, go drive your civic to your shit work that you hate
Loïc Martel I have 2 cars :
- 2013 458 Spider.
- 2014 S63 AMG.
Were you talking about yourself?
Real Name I used to own the 997 turbo cab, it's a great car. GT3 is even better because of NA engine. But the look....Even Audi R8 still looks way better than 911.
Real Name I think it looks like a VW Beetle with body kits and a cloth drying hanger in the back.
Alan Teh he's about viper ACR but hey it's NOT street legal
dobbins2550 Nissan GTR Nurburgring lap time is 7:08 so whats youre point
Mohammed Ali that is for nismo
User996 yeah thats right
Can someone educate me about "the rear wheels doing some of the steering too" when they were talking about the GT3 in the beginning?
Id take that Porsche any day. DAT BUILD QUALITY
I was sold , so got a 458 italia and a Gt3, love em both and can't stop driving them
Ferrari has bigger engine, more hp, lighter weight, lower centre of gravity la la la. in term of which one would you buy definitely the porche then spend the remaining 100,000 you save and make it fuck loads faster than the Ferrari. i seriously dont see how the Ferrari wins in a practical sense if you were to buy one.
Love your profile pic
Thanks guys for video, where is the country in video??
+Arizandi PN
In the U.K.. Probably Wales
An executive class nissan (Altima) towards an entry level bmw that is,
E.g. The Altima is quite cheaper (half the price) yet they're both for "executives"
The Altima is luxurious in it's own way, so is the bmw. Yet why does the bmw cost more?
Because you're paying for the brand.
And as we all know, Ferrari would do anything to protect it's name.
Etienne DePons
Nissan doesn't compare to bmw...as much as you pay for the brand you also pay for the engineering. Fyi the only thing luxurious about a Nissan is Infiniti.
Etienne DePons that's exactly the point .
Ferrari is the leader when it comes to racing engineering, they have been from the start....I would charge a ridiculous amount for my cars aswell
Is that hart side pass?
Still the United Staters cant spell the name Porsche right huh ?
Its not Porsh...........
Its Pό-rsee with the e sounds like EEEEEEEE got damn it !
CAR magazine is British and the presenter is British... The "e" at the end of Porsche or any other German word that ends with an e does not sound like "EEEE" when pronounced in proper German. It is a soft "uh."
He's from England.Not USA.Get it right.
Ferrari and Porsche are compared, even with considerable price difference, because they are the only brand to build real sports cars, designed to be driven even going slowly! Are the feelings that count, not the speed or price!! :) Porsche is more livable, Ferrari is more exotic but they are two excellent!
The proper race would be a gt3 RS vs the ferrari and see the Ferrari be smashed...PORSCHE FOR LIFE
your profile pic is a ferrari.
Do you have a problem puss face
Calm down you're a kid, does your mother know about this foul language?
GT2 not GT3.
Only question is, which car caught on fire first?
what about waiting for the 991 GT3 RS?
Damn all those rocks hitting the car !!! AHhhhhhhHHHhhh !!! :'(
Torrey B
It’s the Pilot sport Cup 2 my car came with them I swapped them out for PS4.
Never get behind a car that has Cup 2 tires as you will be pummeled by rocks.
Fantastic review!
GT3 couldn't even beat a regular 458...
could! 12C beat 458 and GT3 beat 12C so you guess the result
User996 The 458 handles much better, looks better, sounds better, etc.
for you?may be for you shit also looks better than gold? not for me
you couldn't say anything about lap times and switched to handling, looks and sounds?
Not much of a Ferrari person, but hearing the Pillsbury Doughboy laughter from 8:28 to 8:38 helps me to know that this is definitely a wonderful car... lol
GT3 even turned the sheep head lol
They never discuss colour in these comparisons. It's sooo important and affects mood. I say retest but include colour in the conversation otherwise all those numbers about horsepower and acceleration are boooorrriing! Also, interiors!
CARmagazineTV I love it Ferrari 458 SPECIALE!!!
2014 Gtr Nismo>Both these cars
Never ;)
Top scrub tier comment.
found the 10 year old gtr fanboy that doesn't know anything about cars
Go to the bar with a Nissan key.. The Ferrari and Porsche owners are the ones who gets laid at the end of the day ;)
I think we all just got trolled. Nobody can honestly be this stupid.
The 458 S is better. All wheel steering is an old version but the "slide angle control" is awesome and cutting edge
Cole Jones Porsche has done more to the car industry than Ferrari ever has
Cole Jones You're a peasant.
Love the GT3, still the best car for the money hands down
ferrari forever the best car!!!!!!
porsche horrible car shit!!!
I'll have the GT3 on a Saturday and the Ferrari on a Sunday. Beautiful looking cars and engines.
Ferrari is just the best! Porsche is just an overpriced beetle..
+masteralexdalcompute Don't use Porsche and overprice in the same sentence, you'll look like a dunce.
+The Opinionator Porsches are great performing cars but they are owned by Volkswagen. Not that I don't want one and I do like this one now that I've watched this video but they are owned by Volkswagen aren't they?
Look up the price difference :)
+John Vu u know what is also owned by Volkswagen? Bugatti, Bentley and Lamborghini. U know what owns Ferrari? Fiat. My point is it doesn't mean shit
+John Vu u know what is also owned by Volkswagen? Bugatti, Bentley and Lamborghini. U know what owns Ferrari? Fiat. My point is it doesn't mean shit
Nice review - both are awesome cars.
The Porsche is bloody well near maintenance free but for 10K checks and oil changes, and the record supports that!
i tought GT3 comes with a rollcage along?
Thank you, it's good to see these 2 beasts head to head, i don't know how people can prefer one to another, F40 vs 959, come on guys, this is an eternal battle, I wish one day day i'll make enough money to buy them both
How about a rematch when the GT3 RS is relased?
MAN that 458 sounds incredible
458 Speciale is a great car and will become a classic in its own right.
The GT3 is an awesome sports car and probably would be a bit better living day to day with though.
Just the thought of parking the 458 somewhere and walking away.....gulp
The Porsche would probably be ok and blend in a bit.
Maintain the car with the right care and you'll even make money eventually.
great review and great presenter
Great review! thnx a lot.
OMG - Speciale should be vs. GT3 RS!
No track footage? anyway I was drooling the whole time watching this video
Because I'm OCD... @ 3:25 - the finger prints on the window. Sickening
i guess the gt3 rs is coming soon?
You can never really compare these two cars, but what you can say is that they do exactly what they were designed to do to perfection. Neither car misses the mark, and you really can't say a a single dollar would be wasted when purchasing either of these two cars.... but thats just my opinion
if you look at 8:15, that alone shows why manuals are on the way out
