If even Richard Meaden is giggling like a little boy then it's obvious how much joy you get from driving these latest Ferrari cars. While both Porsche and Mclaren admittedly make great cars, since 458 Ferrari is simply at another level. Fun car with great chassis and balance, great NA engines, gearbox and all the power so easily accessible.
I love the cars Ferrari makes but ever since I found Chris Harris and found out what Ferrari do for every review, I hated the company, they're such ignorant twats, they don't allow you any freedom with their cars unless you say only positive things about them and don't publicise their "secrets" like Chris Harris did. Great review anyway though Richard, amazing car.
Starting to get really bored with this stupidity of the "tweaked" Ferraris, or different from production or whatever... Mclaren does exactly the same thing (car magazine mclaren mp4 12c mega test, search the video). These things, these lap times and comparisons are obviously very important from a markting point of view, so its perfectly natural that the marks want to be supplying cars in their absolute possible best for the magazines. Also, these supercars are extremely sensitive to alignment set ups and these go off quite easily with suspensions as adjustable as these so its very easy for a car to not be in top form. And then there is the weight of some options that some or most owners order, and then theres the condition of tires... I love Chris Harris - the best automotive journalist in the world end of story - even though I am a Ferrari guy and hes obviously a Porsche guy, and I understand his complaints, but, honestly, even the man himself owns 2 Ferraris!!! What the heck is this nonsense? Furthermore, I think it is know common knowledge is back driving Ferraris press cars so now you get your own ideas.
Is it just me or does this car ooze sexuality? Like can you consider this car pure sex? I'm lost for words right now haha. I need a poster of this car asap
Maybe it's because i'm not a race driver, or a specialist, but as a simple aficionado i have to say this is a wonderful machine no matter if it's specifically tuned for this review or not. I don't care! What I care about is the attention to detail that's been payed, the wonderful design, the genius engineering and that wonderful sound!!
Agreed! I'd welcome the Agera R to that face-off, too, but that will only happen if Koenigsegg provides one (which has allegedly been difficult to accomplish for many tests).
vanquish421 Koenigsegg isn't a true performance car company to me. I mean even pagani you get to see some limited reviews. How many agera r reviews are there? Hilarious how people want ro compare agera r with the big 3 when there is absolutely no indication the agera r is a good track car. It goes fast I a sttaight line that is all anyone knows.
I can't believe the hatred in these comments.. Not even sure where I would start. Nobody seems able to see past this bulls*** and notice this brilliant car for what it is, pure automotive artwork. Say what you want but this is the best driving car on sale today bar LaF, P1 etc.
nice comments aren't getting "likes" on youtube anymore you gotta hate something in order to get likes from people and hating on the biggest automotive brand in the world is one perfect way to do it.
Dear God, what a video. Absolutely beautifully shot, great driving, good commentary... but oh, what a car. The sights and sounds are magical. Thank you for sharing them.
Please Richard have lots of fun with the cars the manufacturers lend you and shred dozens of tyres in the process, but please do it off camera and let Henry Catchpole do the reviews, Cheers.
Catchpole? No way! He's arrogant and his driving flash cars has divorced him from compassion and humanity - a car tester version of Cameron. Meadon any day.
1seipai Never read so much bollox on UA-cam in my life. Which is saying something. Or was it tongue in cheek? If not i think you are divorced from compassion and humanity. The irony....
zakelwe Fair point. But there was one video where Catchpole was driving a car, maybe a Ferrari, through a boarder checkpoint. There were lots of lorries and caravans there. He made some comment that they should be stopped since they were probably criminals. More likely they were refugees fleeing from God know what. From then on I did not like him. It was an arrogant and crass thing to say.
Is it me or is Ferrari getting lazier with their naming? Speciale? Laferrari? Unless they mean something else in Italian, I dunno... They gotta rethink keeping a cat in their marketing/production department...
Dickie, why not show the entire timed lap? That would have been MEGA! And show it from the outside go pro: that gives the best shots. (for eg look at monkeyboys 458 spider vid on //DRIVE)
This is up there with the best motoring pieces I have ever seen. Dickie, you are on form right now. Also the camera work and camera synchronisation was superb. And those opposite lock and engine bay shots with the induction noise, I am literally rushing this comment so I can start pulling one off!! Let's not forget the car. The speciale has had the best reviews from the cream of the motoring journalism world and although they often take stick for it, I cannot thank Ferrari enough for turning up with a truck load if spares and fresh tyres for the making of this film. Wow, you guys blew me away with this one, loved the intro too!!! 5*
This car is awesome. The side slide angle control tech is awesome. 600+hp 9000rpm, 90kg off from Italia, 200+mph etc... GT3 aren'a a bargain at all. Not even close.
Lately I get the feeling many frustrated fans from some other manufacturer have a new strategy. Since LaF turned to be the best in the 3 super car battle they have started to mention he Chris Harris incident on every single Ferrari video, and with a renewed force and new twists. Give it up. Chris moved on and so should you. Spreading rumors wont help. One manufacturer is simply better at the moment. And that is a fact.
Please evo. This is not a "dig" im liking this new angelsy lap time battle but just can you keep the driver the same for all cars the 911, gtr and m5 have all been done by the same racing driver yet the Ferrari hasn't. For a good comparison and it is interesting to us to have that comparison keep the driver the same please
That issue was in the Autocar video. This Evo battle has GT3,650S,and Speciale. The 650S came with standard P 0 tires. It was a handful without the new Corsa's.458 brakes were reported better then both. The 650S were the worst. The GT3 was very close to a well tuned 458 on track. Actually less then a sec. Ferrari came with tires, engineers and test driver. GT3 was borrowed from a owner with fresh engine swap and chips in the passenger seat. I did read the article of this Evo battle. Autocar used this same track with 458 and 650S. They timed both but I have yet to see any results. It was reported they were very close to each other. Ferrari declined to do a head 2 head video on track.
This is the kind of videos that have earned you my subscription. It's a shame that many who buy this car will never take it to a track or have the skill to throw it around like that. Hell of a car for sure.
Enjoying yourself Dickie? and that is what "EVO" Is about, the joy of driving, and what makes something special.Definately Dicky driving all the way through, he likes his prada glass's, good vid , regards motorclaim guru
But something tells us we'll have our work cut out.... That something being the non standard super soft tyres Ferrari bolted to it to get a 1:14 lap time probably :}
So, according to what the reviewer said, this is only going to be a series car/only a certain amount will be built. What a shame. They should build as many as there is a demand for. Getting to my point, build enough so teams can buy them and the 458 Speciale can be Ferrari's new GT3 car. McLaren is stepping things up a bit by making the 650R the basis for their GT3 car, and this is a perfect opportunity for Ferrari to answer back. And I've posted about this before and it's completely superficial, but they could have done something a little more, well, special with the name "458 Speciale." Maybe 458 Scuderia Speciale or 458 Challenge Speciale. I don't know, just something. And I guess that general lower front fascia design is the optimum one, since it looks almost exactly like the one they put on the 430 Scuderia. And I wish it would be possible, if I have enough disposable cash one day soon, to get a nice second hand 430 with all the Scuderia bits but with the regular cars' lower front fascia. That design on the 430 is an awesome sort of homage to the "Shark Nose" Ferrari Formula 1 cars of the early '60s. All in all though, there is no doubt the 458 Speciale is an amazing car. But again, don't limit the number that will be built! Keep building them for as long as the orders keep coming in. I have a feeling Ferrari does things like build only a certain amount of certain cars, but they should keep in mind that most modern Ferraris, like a regular 430, are instant classics that will appreciate in value. They don't need the factor of rarity to help keep these cars heading in the insanely priced classic direction. Look at all the "regular" 250s of the 1960s. They all go for crazy prices nowadays.
EVO, how about TONS more footage from cameras looking >out< from the cockpit, and not showing the reviewer for 5 minutes straight in a 9 minute video? Cannot tell how the car reacts in the corners merely by looking at him fiddling with the steering wheel - and I'm sorry but a 458 Speciale is a bit more... interesting than Richard, right? More than 5 seconds of cuts looking forward would be appreciated.

Not many people can drive at 9 tenths and 'chat' about what they are doing. I suggest, taking your car out on a circuit flat out and giving a running commentary about your exploits, then coming back on here and lets see what you have? Keep up the good work EVO- Top stuff!
They do have work cut trying to beat such time. I will say this time could be beaten. Someone released some Lamborghini times on some Trofeo R tires. Both Lp-570 Squardra and Huracan were then Speciale on Vairano Handling course.
Don't you feel like basically all car reviews are the same lately? Step one: find a quick car. Step two: find a race track. Step three: do some drifting...Cars like this are full of innovative features unlike car reviews. I am not sure if it is the lack of creativity or this is the most enjoyable way to review a car for jurnalists. From my perspective it's getting boring even though the car itself is wonderful...
Anglesey is a fantastic track to review cars on. Chris Harris uses it all the time for his /DRIVE reviews for various cars. Though some of the shots seen here are similar in a way to Chris' Ferrari F12 review. Regardless, fantastic vid and I look forward to your lap times. :)
bit SPECIALE this video seeing meaden power oversteer on smoking rear tyres all over the video in a Ferrari but did not show that time attack attempt. to be honest, think I would prefer to see the latter especially on a Ferrari. why not we have a video on a la Ferrari just going sideways nd burning rear rubber only for 12 minutes? what a miss, could have been a brilliant video because meaden is pretty good with time attacks with his senna'esque throttling
Evo, Thank you for all of the great videos but I have a request: turn the in-car camera around so it is facing forward (like 8:54 in this video). Richard has excellent insight into the cars he drives BUT it only goes so far. I want to get a better sense of how the car behaves to driver inputs. Thanks again.
Ferrari needs to make a mid engined V10 or V12 car, that slots between the 458 and Laferrari, give it around 700-800 bhp, and do not style it in a wind tunnel, hand draw it, it would be great, that's what Ferrari is missing.
It would be SO refreshing to see a review where a car actually went as fast as possible through a corner without drifting. I can barely remember what that looks like anymore.. This drifting thing has gotten old!
he just went for it, got into the car without thinking on the moment itself, opened the door and entered! what a crime.... it's an F458 speciale for god sake.... :) love it!
very good videos, but your soundtracks are very boring, the've noting to do with these cars. this music would be fine if you had videos about nature or wild animal live e.t.c but these are sports cars and require appropriate music background.
Another Ferrari video, another opportunity for fanboys to start a flame war. I don't get it. Can we not try to be a bit more positive about this, and celebrate the choice we have in great cars and car companies?
Is it as easy as it looks to drift a rwd super car? I see all the top gear, fifth, evo guys do it even out on the open road. I feel like i'd just spin it all the way round and crash. Or is it easy to get the hang of?
Evo has managed to capture that special feeling that comes with driving a car quickly and the joy that comes with it. I don't know if it's the 458, track, videography, but thank you.
If even Richard Meaden is giggling like a little boy then it's obvious how much joy you get from driving these latest Ferrari cars. You know Harris owns an FF now...right?
***** Not anymore. He just sold it.
Tommy Pickles He's also sad to see it go.
Is it just me or does this car ooze sexuality? Like can you consider this car pure sex? I'm lost for words right now haha. I need a poster of this car asap
Wow, Ferrari actually did allow you to hot lap the Speciale on a different track than Fiorano?
Not without having the car setup for the track and not without bringing a garage to service the car of course.
autocar done the same thing on a different track before
Aye, but only because they were there a day before tuning specifically for this review...
***** Porsche fan? xD
***** how do you know
Maybe it's because i'm not a race driver, or a specialist, but as a simple aficionado i have to say this is a wonderful machine no matter if it's specifically tuned for this review or not. I don't care! What I care about is the attention to detail that's been payed, the wonderful design, the genius engineering and that wonderful sound!!
I thought hardcore pornography wasn't allowed on UA-cam?
EVO is the best! Please try to bring LaFerrari, P1 and 918 on this track!:)
Agreed! I'd welcome the Agera R to that face-off, too, but that will only happen if Koenigsegg provides one (which has allegedly been difficult to accomplish for many tests).

Lorenzo Locchi Exactly, not like they're the only ones doing it either..
What an epic car. That's all there is to say.
I'm just out of words. Masterpiece.
best Track car.... end of the story!!!
No doubt the Speciale is an awesome bit of kit, but honestly i'd be more than happy with a standard Italia too.
Dear God, what a video. Absolutely beautifully shot, great driving, good commentary... but oh, what a car. The sights and sounds are magical. Thank you for sharing them.
On an unrelated point, Dickie's lost so much weight recently.
So he's at least half a second faster :)
Dickie Speciale? Lighter and faster?
Was thinking the same thing. Good for him!
best steering wheel IMO
What the hell, were they prohibited from filming the road, why is it that the only thing I see the whole video is the reviewers face?
What a magnificent car! Great job, +Evo! Can't wait to see what other cars can come close to its lap time. Hopefully in the dry too!
I can't get enough of this or the regular 458... just such an amazing piece of art and machinery.
Imagine waking up everyday, walking out your front door and climbing into that and knowing it's your car haha! Would be proper boss!
Please Richard have lots of fun with the cars the manufacturers lend you and shred dozens of tyres in the process, but please do it off camera and let Henry Catchpole do the reviews,
Cheers.
Disagree. Richard did amazing job here!
Catchpole? No way! He's arrogant and his driving flash cars has divorced him from compassion and humanity - a car tester version of Cameron. Meadon any day.
NO! This was absolutely brilliant! Best Evo video I've seen in a long time and great in pretty much every aspect!
1seipai Never read so much bollox on UA-cam in my life. Which is saying something. Or was it tongue in cheek? If not i think you are divorced from compassion and humanity. The irony....

The fact that /Drive want to now charge you for content exactly like this, makes you appreciate Evo all the more. Long live Evo.
Best drivers car in production today?

The 911 Turbo S beat the Speciale time
Lately I get the feeling many frustrated fans from some other manufacturer have a new strategy. This car has a perfect combination of stunning design and amazing perfomances. This is the baby LaFerrari
I'm guessing this is from the 650S v 458S session where Ferrari said no video for the comparison?
That issue was in the Autocar video. This Evo battle has GT3,650S,and Speciale.

It was reported they were very close to each other.
Ferrari declined to do a head 2 head video on track.
***** LOL you are a deluded fanboy. FACT
It never amazes me the child-like joy I see on ALL the car journalists faces when they drive a Ferrari.
What a car!! Respect to Ferrari.. nice job!
Sounds like a 458 on Zoloft. Turbos have def robbed it of that spine tingling rip.
You could upload the onboard videos of the time laps of every car you drive there, I think it would be great!!
Ferrari 458 speciale vs McLaren 650s vs Lamborghini huracan would be one of the best head to heads ever imo
That looks like just about the best thing ever to drive. Gob smacked. Lottery ticket is on!
We are living in a era that cars have become much more then just cars, each hight tech sport car today is a masterpeice of its own.
I´m going to miss this cars in the future.. sometimes cars like this seem to mark an ending..
No cars compare - sound ,brutal force ,elegance ,history ,excitement ,brand only one name Ferrari
WTF!!!!! I want to see CHRIS HARRIS reviewing this car! Not some unemotional guy i have never heared of!
Then you're on the wrong channel.
Fucking idiot. This review was epic. Chris Harris is also very good but this guy did a great job too!
I think you've missed some relevant news from like 2 years ago...
mak450 i think you've missed some relevant news from much more recently
Eva Moura
Well unless you know something google search refuses to tell me, I'm going to have to disagree
This is the kind of videos that have earned you my subscription. It's a shame that many who buy this car will never take it to a track or have the skill to throw it around like that. Hell of a car for sure.
This circuit is fabulous (as the car) ! It remembers me Chris Harris with the F40 & F50.
Enjoying yourself Dickie? and that is what "EVO" Is about, the joy of driving, and what makes something special.Definately Dicky driving all the way through, he likes his prada glass's, good vid , regards motorclaim guru
Great video, but why not show footage from the timed lap?
The 911 turbo s destroys the Speciale for 120k less lol.
be interesting to see what kinda beast tries to beat the speciales time on this superb track
But something tells us we'll have our work cut out.... That something being the non standard super soft tyres Ferrari bolted to it to get a 1:14 lap time probably :}

Maybe 458 Scuderia Speciale or 458 Challenge Speciale. Never grow tired of watching this vid - mega car - mega fun
POV Intro, yeah! Now let's get some of those same visor-cam shots drifting around the circuit!
Seriously guys! Richard is a top presenter and driver, as is Henry. Let them get on with their reviews in turn. Jethro is also a fantastic driver and presenter. Not many people can drive at 9 tenths and 'chat' about what they are doing. I suggest, taking your car out on a circuit flat out and giving a running commentary about your exploits, then coming back on here and lets see what you have?
Keep up the good work EVO- Top stuff!
loved the pov shots. now bring a 650 and a gt3. i suspect the gt3's time will be interesting considering its power deficit.
Step two: find a race track. bit SPECIALE this video seeing meaden power oversteer on smoking rear tyres all over the video in a Ferrari but did not show that time attack attempt. to be honest, think I would prefer to see the latter especially on a Ferrari. why not we have a video on a la Ferrari just going sideways nd burning rear rubber only for 12 minutes? what a miss, could have been a brilliant video because meaden is pretty good with time attacks with his senna'esque throttling
Evo,
Thank you for all of the great videos but I have a request: turn the in-car camera around so it is facing forward (like 8:54 in this video). Richard has excellent insight into the cars he drives BUT it only goes so far. I want to get a better sense of how the car behaves to driver inputs. Thanks again.
car of the year 2014 imo
Ferrari needs to make a mid engined V10 or V12 car, that slots between the 458 and Laferrari, give it around 700-800 bhp, and do not style it in a wind tunnel, hand draw it, it would be great, that's what Ferrari is missing.
You want to beat the 458 s time then use a Corvette ZR1 or Nissan GTR Nismo
It would be SO refreshing to see a review where a car actually went as fast as possible through a corner without drifting. I can barely remember what that looks like anymore..
This drifting thing has gotten old!
he just went for it, got into the car without thinking on the moment itself, opened the door and entered! what a crime.... it's an F458 speciale for god sake....
:)
love it!
very good videos, but your soundtracks are very boring, the've noting to do with these cars. this music would be fine if you had videos about nature or wild animal live e.t.c but these are sports cars and require appropriate music background.
Shame you won't be able to use this fantastic car at 100 % pretty must anywhere. Trackday noise regulations, speed regulations and so on...
Great stuff. What a car, what a video; Best vid from evo in a long time. Richard, you're really coming into your own now.
Wait until they have a proper go in a Z06 Corvette and a Nismo GTR. Truly exciting time to be a gearhead.
A little color correction wouldn't have hurt that opening shot.
Another Ferrari video, another opportunity for fanboys to start a flame war. I don't get it. Can we not try to be a bit more positive about this, and celebrate the choice we have in great cars and car companies?
just brilliant, the review the track the car all of it
What a Sweet Machine!! It's defiantly my Favorite Ferrari !!
Front end up is properly ugly. functional thank god. would much rather a 650s
Is it as easy as it looks to drift a rwd super car?
I see all the top gear, fifth, evo guys do it even out on the open road. I feel like i'd just spin it all the way round and crash. Or is it easy to get the hang of?
Great film Evo. Can we see the full timed lap now please?
Love Lambo, but I'm sorry, Charlie.
Ferrari all day & night.
This is the reason why I dont think the Mclaren is better cos its not abt the fastest its abt how much more it could light your face up!
All the extras that come with ferrari but you cant knock them this car is a dream an is so much better than the 650s in my opinion
Lovely intro, hope to see some incredible cars to do some laps on Anglesey that could beat the Speciale's time
Best car since the F40. This is a thoroughbred race horse.
External view with glasses and internal without.....mmmm no a good montage....
I don't like the black bits on the sides on that one. It's an optional extra I know but kinda ruins it for me.
That is the way a high level sports car should sound like...want one.
chris harris has really set the benchmark too high, all car journos seem terrible compared to him
