Keith is giving us full service train catches, geography lessons, help for model train hobbyists, and radio chatter. Thanks brother stay safe out there.
That first train was awesome. I live on the east side of Australia and I remember learning about the Fault in geography back in the mid 70s, so I find it really interesting when it turns up on you channel Keith. Thank you for that
Wow that first train had 7 units on the head end and then that long train had 2 units on the back. At first I thought it was a DPU but I saw an engineer waving on those back units. So I guess it was a helper engine with an engine crew. Cool video. 👍❤️
How very cool to see video from the UP crossing on Swarthout Canyon Road! Most rail-fan videos are from the BNSF crossing, making your view unexpected! Nice San Andreas/Blue Cut shot, too!
I can’t believe how long that train is but I’ve seen one like that one time literally wrapped around the mountains in CA,it might have been Cajon Pass but I don’t remember.great video, thanks for sharing
If there’s a crew on the DP it would be called a manned helper not Distributed Power. I have ran the Cascades between Oakridge and Cascade Summit since 2004 and have work helper off and on since then.
Yes you are right and if is unmand it's or they are pushers. Fueled BNSF on track for several years. With a FRED Fk'n Rear End Device got that from the Carman as I was locked out fueln' 🤣🤣👍👍👍
Mona tried to tell me To stay away from the train line She said that all the railroad men Just drink up your blood like wine An’ I said, “Oh, I didn’t know that But then again, there’s only one I’ve met An’ he just smoked my eyelids An’ punched my cigarette” Oh, Mama, can this really be the end To be stuck inside of Mobile With the Memphis blues again
Great video to operate one of those you got to be Good in math the grade how steep the weight the speed and how many engine you need were was this done at I kind of know the area but it's not the 138 what road you was on
Woah. 😮 That was absolutely epic brother. Fantasic catch!! That was a HUGE and HEAVY beast to stall out with that much power up front is wild!! 🤯 I guess if some of the power was dead it makes sense. Were you searching for riders in the open box car!? Beautiful view and perspective for the second train!
Question: When everything is up and running normally, what is the name of the device or devices that ensure that each and every locomotive is either pulling or pushing equally?
SD70ACe Thunder Cab leader. They weren’t sure why the engines shut down from I can gather. A mechanic helped them for a few hours over the radio. I know the lead and first helper were engaged. The other 6 I can’t tell. Once they got it going the mechanic told them not to touch anything all the way into the shop.
I’m currently using an iPhone promax 12. For that exact reason. It’s crisp! I don’t know where they were headed. I’m guessing engines 2 through 8 were dead. The mechanic heard over my scanner said for the crew to take it straight to the mechanic shop when they arrive.Told him not to touch anything.
If you want to see Dirty Power, check out the Cascades. 21 tunnels in about 40 miles. They just keep running from Eugene,OR to Klamath Falls, OR. The engines get filthy to the point you can’t read the engine # unless you’re standing right next to it.
No reason to pull dead weight up this grade. They were pushing hard. You can hear the engines and see the smoke. And there’s an engineer sitting there giving me the peace sign. I have several other videos where they were talking about this train all day and I’m putting a movie together so you’ll hear it all and how it happened. Thanks
Most the engines up top were dead headed. The two rear were added to get this beast up the grade. You can hear the engines and see the smoke and they had an engineer in there.
@@cajonpassrailroadfans ahh i see, thanks. I thought the engines in the back were being controlled by the engineer at the front of the train and the the crew in the back were in there just doing nothing.
In loving memory of Hobo Shoestring ... this was the route he loved
Nice tribute! Thanks
when did he die and how did anyone find out?
Keith is giving us full service train catches, geography lessons, help for model train hobbyists, and radio chatter. Thanks brother stay safe out there.
That was heavy power up front on that first train SD 70 ACE , SD 70 M and a AH nice catch Keith thanks
That first train was awesome.

I think I had geography class about the same time! Thanks, Carol. Now you’ve seen it close up!
ive never seen a train that long.
Nice clear video. Great narration. Living on the fault line

Appreciate you watching and sharing your thoughts and experiences!
As a kid I rode this line a few times. It's the old SP single track i believe and had many manifests that were full of hobos.
You nailed it! Love hearing your stories! Keep them coming! Thanks friend!
A never ending train !
Was a beast! Thanks
Great video well done!

Seen California in a simi trucks. 4 times. Interesting! Again thank you.
Thank you Ronald!
I would like to see a model railroad with a consist that long…
That would be a nice sight!!!
Ridiculously long train 😮
Definitely! Thanks
Rare to see maned helpers anymore especially in Cajon
Thanks a lot! Was a fun catch!
On BNSF we have crewed helpers 3 or 4 times a day. Sometimes more. Sometimes less. I'm an engineer who runs the pass daily.😉
Got to be one of the longest trains have ever seen
Thanks for watching!
Northbound UP manifest train was 146 cars.
Evet bende saydım 146 adet waggons 8 adet çekici 2 adette itici lok mashine toplam 10 mashine.Çok hoş çok zevli bir video.Teşekkürler.
Thanks so very much friend!

True. I’ve updated the post to reflect your point. Thanks for clarifying friend.

Great question. Let’s see what our Subscribers have to say.
@@cajonpassrailroadfansThanks. Great video by the way. I appreciate your efforts. Take care.
Was the lead unit a rebuild sd90? Also what was wrong with the lead units?

It’s a big one for sure! Thanks
That had to be about 250 cars.

Been some bad accidents at the bottom of the pass.
Truth. Thanks for commenting.
Like to see the longest train.
Thanks
is that an uphill grade?
Uphill. Thanks
Last four units on head-end were DEAD IN CONSIST.
Thanks Robert! You’re spot on! Appreciate your insight!
your video is incredibly clear are you using a camera or a phone? where do you think the dead headed engines were being repositioned to? thanks

How many cabs were there ? They carry an enormous amount of goods. They beat semitrailers and make them appear small.
10 locomotives but only 3 in front and back 2 online. Thanks Sally!
California I think with the SA fault there
Good question. Cajon Pass. Southern California. Thanks
