    Thanks so much Raj! Followed your method and I got our conservatory done over the Christmas holiday. Spent £500 including LED downlighters and dimmers etc, it's really nice in here now and we're finding the whole house has improved as our conservatory is integral with the ground floor with just an arch to the kitchen and no internal doors. Now we are in here all the time! Inspired by your video ; I've only limited DIY skills but it wasn't too complicated and I'm really glad we've done it. THANK YOU!

    I did mine earlier in the year and on an extremely tight budget so instead of the thermal quilting I used bubble wrap in layers which cost me £10 for a big roll. And I used soffit boards which I bought off FB marketplace and they cost me £80 . To save having to align on the angles I did them a different direction and it’s worked well. I didn’t use any H pieces, I just put sealant between them and then got a roll of plastic trim off Amazon at £9.99 and put that over to hide the joints. I’ve not had a winter with it yet but it’s made a big difference this summer. This has cost me about £140 max . If I can do it anyone can . I’ve still got to finish getting a trim to tidy up around pvc to brickwork and cover a few screws I had to put in . I’d share pics but don’t know if I can in here 🙂

    Thank you for posting this video. I did exactly the same process for out conseratory with super quilt and fire rated white plastic cladding. The results are quite dramatic. Cooler in the summer and warm in the winter. Its become a room we can use all year round. Its currently a windy -3 Deg C outside and a comfortable 19Deg C with a small radiator in a room 6M x 4M room. 😁😁😁😁

    The temperature outside today is 6 degrees and inside the conservatory it is showing 22.5. The heating has switched off at 9 in the morning and it is 1325 now. I thought I'll post these figures to give an idea about the insulation effectiveness. Also to add that the other rooms on this floor show a temperature of 23.5 degrees

    Really enjoyed your video, bet you wish you took the stickers off before installing the upvc! I agree about the weight of the plasterboard and I think the cladding looks okay. It saves having to plaster or paint the ceiling as well.

    Great video, having had a quote for £2.5k to get mine done I’m thinking £500 and a bit of hard work is worth the effort!! Just a couple of questions
    1) what did you use to cut the cladding? Would a mitre saw do?
    2) how did you attach the edging strip to the conservatory and the bare brick? Your setup is the same as mine!
    Thanks in advance

    Great video! We are just planning a materials list for ours as we speak. I had intended using super quilt and then using an insulated plasterboard over the top of that to further decrease heat loss. In your experience do you think that's overkill? The weight is as you mention a concern. I had intended combatting that somewhat with a cross brace from one side to the other, disguised as a faux wooden beam. I have been monitoring internal and external temps the last couple of weeks in the hope of giving some measure of improvement.

If so then- my gut feeling is that it should last for quite a number of years as the insulation material is not a naturally bio degradable material. If you do a search for the product on Google, you can see the specification and the guaranties for the insulation.

    @mattdavenport6094 2 роки тому +1

    Further to my last post, I'm now in the process of putting up the cladding. about 1/4 of the roof is clad. however, there is now a lot of condensation first thing in the morning, which is dripping from the polycarb panels, onto the quilt, then running down the quilt and dripping on the window sills. I've opened the small sliding vents for airflow, and left a gap between the cladding and conservatory 'wall'.
    this never happened before the quilt was put up. what is causing this? there is a radiator in the conservatory that comes on at 5am. Is the sudden heat meeting the cold panels causing this? As mentioned above there should be enough ventilation, and due to using battens, there is enough gap between the quilt and roof panels. hopefully this is just temporary due to the frost each morning. And once the roof is fully clad, the heat shouldnt escape and warm the roof panels?

      @@diyprojects-rd6431 Hi, thanks. I've read again about the importance of sealing the joins in the quilt properly with foil tape. Its been a while since i put the quilt up, so i think warm air is creeping through the gaps where the tape has peeled away maybe, and causing the condensation. I'll make sure all joins are properly sealed, and crack on with the cladding. hopefully that will sort it. thanks

    • @rodgerq
      @rodgerq 2 роки тому

      @@mattdavenport6094 yes you really need to do all you can to seal the hot side from the cold side to stop moisture migrating to the cold side and forming as condensate. Keeping the vents open will help with air flow as you say.

    Thank you, I am sorry to ask so many questions but how far do I screw the battens onto the frame and will I break the glass? Also my battens are 50 width, not 38mm, will this be ok?

    • @diyprojects-rd6431
      @diyprojects-rd6431  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Helen not a problem. 50 mm wide should not be an issue I think. If the conservatory is of a standaard construction, then the screw size that I have used ( as shown in the video) should be fine. I suggest the length of the screw equal to the thickness of the baten plus half the thickness approx of the frame on which the baten is to be screwed. I hope it helps.

    I having trouble with the staples shattering the tongue of the cladding. Either the staples are too big or the stapler is too powerful? I'm using the same wickes cladding as you, 14mm staples and a Stanley TR250 stapler. please help :)

    • @diyprojects-rd6431
      @diyprojects-rd6431  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Matt when I used the stapler, the body of the stapler was over the cladding at right angles to the edge so that the staples were parallel to the edge of the cladding. While using the stapler I was applying force towards the front, directly on top of the staples and not on the remaining body of the stapler. I hope this makes sense. I did not have any issues with the panels cracking.

      @@diyprojects-rd6431 Hi, thanks for your reply. yeah, i tried that method but found that there was not enough force to drive the staple through the lip of the cladding, and the staple was hanging out. I'm now using small screws to secure the cladding to the battens instead. compared to all the measuring and cutting, it only takes a small amount of time more.

      Thanks for watching. Yes this can be slightly tricky sometimes as the insulation wool rotates. Try using a new location or try with a pilot hole with a very fine drill first before putting the screw. I tried both the methods.

    If cladding sheets are stapled into betton, how do you insert/slide in H bar at later point. I am having difficulty if I staple the cladding edge to betton, H bar cannot be inserted there later on, as bottom bit of the H-bar is quite wide. if there is staple pin connection cladding and betton, H-bar bottom bit cannot go under it, as pin is blocking it. I hope you understood?

      Hi - the end where the cladding is inserted into the H Bar/ strip is not stapled. I had slided the H bar onto the cladding and stapled the H bar on to the batton on the other side. Then slided the next batch of the cladding panels on to the other side of the H bar and carried on. I hope makes sense.

      See the video at 11:55 . The cladding is shown overlapping over the batton. This visible edge over the batton is not stapled to the batton. It is here the H section is slid on to the cladding edge.

    hi , another comment sorry. well summers here, and this week i've had a mini disaster, when i noticed the ceiling sagging! took some panels off to see what had happened (luckily i screwed them on, instead of stapling) and the first lot of battens have come out of the aluminium rafters. I've now replaced the original 4.5 x 50mm screws with 5.5 x 50mm screws.
    I've noticed that the screws i've taken out have been really hot, so i'm wondering if the screws have come loose due to heat, and metal expansion. In which case, i guess putting bigger screws in wont really solve the problem?
    Has anyone else had this issue? Really worried now about the whole ceiling caving in!

      Hi Matt that must be quite concerning indeed. I have not observed any sagging yet. Fingers crossed this is the 2nd summer in progress...I think when you re install the screws a temperature resistant sealant on the screws may help to keep them secured?
