Malzeno(the vampire one) got a better intro because it’s the Flagship of the expansion. Flagships are the monster they use for the box art. The story tend to focus on these monsters.

oh the Chaotic Gore Magala one is still so sad. Gore Magalas are immature Shagaru Magalas, and if they molt too close to a mature Shagaru, the adult's frenzy virus (the purple stuff that both monsters use) can make the molt fail. The failure causes them to be unable to tolerate their own strain of frenzy, and the poor animal is doomed to die slowly and painfully.
Unsurprisingly, in Sunbreak, the Chaotic Gore Magala is framed as a fallen angel for this reason. All monsters in Rise and Sunbreak represent a folklore monster.

@@Mounttaintop agreed! I saw some people thinking Shagaru was supposed to be the fallen angel, but nah. In terms of what folklore Shagaru is supposed to reference in Sunbreak, it's definitely meant to be the angel who challenges the would-be hero to make sure they're strong enough.

Yeah, in some cases we hunt monsters so that we can give them a sort of "mercy kill" by ending their suffering. Monsters suffering from the Qurios parasitizing them are another example, as there's no way to cure them, and the Qurios will eventually kill the monster, but prior to that happening the monster in question will be in so much pain that it will be totally berserk and lashing out at anyone and anything within reach.
And of course, there are also some monsters that are naturally peaceful (or at least not outright hostile) to humans. Dodogama from back in World being one example (as it will not attack hunters unless they attack it first, in which case it is only acting out of self-defense). Some will roar at you to warn you that you're intruding on their territory and give you a brief window of time to leave (and if you fail to do so they will attack).
And then there's the Monster Riders in the MH Stories games who can actually befriend and "tame" monsters and live alongside them peacefully (even including Elder Dragons like Nergigante in some cases). I'd love to see another Stories game at some point that adds monsters from Rise & Sunbreak to the roster like Magnamalo, Lunagaron, & Malzeno.

Fun fact: Gore magala is the prepubescent form of Shagaru magala, when it old enough it’ll shed the black scales and its horns/feelers will permanently protrude. But a Chaotic Gore magala is what happens when the molting of a gore to a shagaru is interrupted, leaving it half transformed in an almost mutant-like state

    • @ItsDaKoolaidDude
      @ItsDaKoolaidDude 2 місяці тому +5

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames oh its more than you realized.
Due to the Magala's ability to use Frenzy Virus (the purple black smoke), as a Gore its barely holding control over the Virus, which is why it hunts and tries to spread as much of it as possible to maintain itself.
As a Shagaru, it's control is complete and is in a... Relatively calmer state I'd suppose. Either way it's like mastering a skill that's been bugging you for years at last.
But Chaotic is stuck right in the middle of that molting state, which the _entire molting process_ is already horrifically painful enough as is. So because another Magala had molted first and spread another airborne virus that quite literally hinders and permanently suspends that molting process, it's a horrible existence that leaves the Magala begging and raging for death. Even sleep doesn't grant any mercy from the pain.
And there is no cure to help it other than putting it out of its misery.

Every monster shown in one sentence, here we go (LONG POST WARNING!):
Daimyo Hermitaur: A crab-like carapaceon that uses its massive claws to slam its opponents while wearing the skull of a Monoblos on its back.
Blood Orange Bishaten: A Bishaten sub-species that throws explosive pinecones at its prey, which it then ignites with flaming breath.
Garangolm: An ape-like fanged beast that digs its massive hands into the earth to coat them in either volcanic rock or clumps of mud and moss (usually one in each fist).
Shogun Cenataur: Another carapaceon with sharp pincers it uses to slice at its foes like wielding two swords.
Aurora Somnacanth: A Somnacanth subspecies that exhales ice-breath instead of sleep gas, which it uses to freeze its prey before eating them.
Lunagaron: A fanged wyvern based on the werewolf that can switch between quadrupedal and bipedal stances and attacks with its teeth and claws.
Astalos: An insectoid flying wyvern that wields electricity to shock its foes before divebombing them from the sky (he also has one of the best themes in the franchise).
Seregios (AKA Steve, as the community has dubbed him): A flying wyvern that fires its own scales at its enemies and is so territorial that the species is driving itself to extinction with turf wars among their own kind.
Magma Almudron: An Almudron subspecies that swims through and attacks with lava rather than mud, as its base form prefers.
Espinas: A flying wyvern covered in poisonous thorns like a rose and has scales so tough that it can spend all of its time sleeping and doesn't even notice it's being attacked until you hit it several times (it was also a big deal when it was revealed because it was originally exclusive to the now-shutdown MMO Monster Hunter Frontiers and we thought we would never see it again).
Gore Magala: A powerful monster with no classification that exudes the Frenzy Virus, which drives other monsters insane to the point of creating an entire new category for monsters affected by the Frenzy Virus.
Pyre Rakna-Kadaki: A subspecies of Rakna-Kadaki that uses its offspring almost like grenades, attaching its webs to them and sending out explosions that detonate when they reach the Raknoid offspring.
Malzeno: An Elder Dragon based on Dracula that shares a symbiotic relationship with flying parasites known as the Qurio, which drain the life-force from monsters and use it to empower Malzeno's attacks.
Shagaru Magala: An Elder Dragon that is the final, evolved form of Gore Magala, wielding an empowered Frenzy Virus so potent it can turn even its lesser kin into mindless abominations.
Gaismagorm: A legendary Elder Dragon known as "The Archdemon of the Abyss" and the true host of the Qurio, it feasts on the life-force the Qurio have absorbed and is so powerful it brought about the total destruction of an ancient kingdom.
Furious Rajang: A Rajang variant that lost its tail and is stuck in a permanently enraged state, powerful enough to challenge even Elder Dragons.
Scorned Magnamalo: A Magnamalo variant that has survived countless battles and wields an even-more-potent Hellfire.
Seething Bazelgeuse: A Bazelgeuse variant with incredibly explosive scales, granting it the strength to take on even Elder Dragons.
Gold Rathian: A rare species of Rathian covered in brilliant, gold scales and wields bright blue Hellfire (not the same as Magnamalo).
Silver Rathalos: A rare species of Rathalos covered in shimmering, silver scales and wields bright blue Hellfire (Sun to Gold Rathian's Moon).
Lucent Nargacuga: A rare species of Nargacuga that is even more deadly and can turn invisible.
Violet Mizutsune: A rare species of Mizutsune that excretes a flammable, oil-like substance from its body, which it then uses in the form of explosive bubbles.
Flaming Espinas: An Espinas subspecies wielding poisonous flame so powerful it can even overpower that of Teostra, the literal "Emperor of Flame."
Chaotic Gore Magala: A variant of Gore Magala that failed to fully evolve, now caught between its juvenile and adult forms in a state of slow, agonizing decay as it falls victim to its own Frenzy Virus.
Velkhana: An Elder Dragon that covers its body in ice like armor and freezes its foes with its icy breath.
Risen Chameleos, Teostra, Kushala Daora, etc.: Elder Dragons that survived being afflicted by the Qurio and emerged even stronger than before.
Amatsu: An Elder Dragon that commands the power of storms, even destroying a nearby kingdom that was home to several characters in the main story.
Primordial Malzeno: A variant of Malzeno that is actually its original form before the Qurio parasites overwhelmed it, representing a brilliant white knight and using its tail and wings like a sword and shield (the Qurio will even try to take over Primordial Malzeno during the fight, driving it progressively insane).
If you read this entire thing, thank you so much. I love this series and all the monsters in it.

Espinas, the one that wakes up offscreen and fights the bat-panther, needs some explanation for why its clip is framed like a reveal.
It is a heavy sleeper, but more importantly, it is the first mainline appearance of a Monster Hunter Frontier monster in a mainline title. Capcom once went on record saying it would never happen (Frontier was a subscription-based MMO, I think, so it needed to have lots of exclusive monsters), but now that Frontier has shut down, it seems the door is open for them. I believe Espinas was the original Frontier release's flagship monster (edit: kind of, see below), so it was a really big deal for some people when it was announced for Sunbreak.

Gore Magala was one of the main focal points of his introductory game, MH4, to the point entire mechanics revolved around it. Like a moth, it disperses it's scales to infect other monsters with it's Frenzy Virus. The virus is powerful enough that it's usual hunting pattern is to drop down, infect the prey, leave and wait for the prey to die. However, if the monsyer is able to overcome the virus, it becomes even more powerful, bocomi g "Frenzied." It's comparible to a zombie virus- the frenzied creature loses all self-preservation instinct, attacking anything it sees and potential spreading the Frenzy Virus. It can even infect the player, but like the monsters, the hunter can overcome it for a power boost.

The difference with normal and Furious Rajang is that Furious rajang has no tail to take him out of its enrage state. So fun fact, Garangolm, Lunagron, and Malzeno are all based on famous horror monsters.
Malzeno as you know is based on the vampire/Dracula. Garangolm is based on the Frankenstein monster, and golemn like creatures, Lunagron is based the Werewolf. Furious Rajang are essentially Rajang that are permanently stuck in their powered up state. Best example would be imagine if Goku was stuck in super saiyan form forever, to even highlight this the Furious Rajang do not have their tails anymore, which is the normal Rajang weakness like it normally is for Saiyans.
Another fun fact: Espinas was a monster originally from an online version of Monster Hunter that was restricted to Japan. When players heard that it would be put in a main Monster Hunter game the community went nuts and we are hopeful more will be put in.
So to explain Primordial Malzeno, the little creatures on the first Malzeno are called Qurio, these creatures did not originally belong to Malzeno instead they belonged to Gaismagorm who once tried to destroy a region. However Malzeno fought Gaismagorm and defeated it sending it into a great pit. The Qurio without Gaismagorm flocked to Malzeno and gave it a new power. Primordial Malzeno is basically a Malzeno's original true form which is why it attacked the Qurio it was getting rid of Gaismagorm's servants.

Yay! This version has dialogue playing! There’s no point in typing something for every monster on this list - but there two in particular I’d like to talk about.
    20:41
The Wandering Malformation - Chaotic Gore Magala. As I’m sure you’ve already noticed, he looks a lot like the monsters at 10:34 and 13:10. That’s because they are all technically the same animal.
Gore Magala, the pure black one is the juvenile stage. Once they reach a certain age, they shed the outer black layer like an insect and turn into their Golden adult form: Shagaru Magala. Unfortunately, Chaotic is the result of a Gore Magala that has failed to shed properly. Often times this is due to it shedding too close to another Shagaru Magala, and the resulting particles that come off of the shed (commonly known as the Frenzy Virus in game) cause one of them to fail.
Chaotic Gore Magala *should not exist.* It’s essentially trapped in its own half shed skin, losing control over its natural frenzy virus powers as the virus slowly eats away at it from the inside out. In fact, if you look carefully, you’ll notice he’s missing an eye.
Fun fact about the immune system, if the Ocular immune System wasn’t keeping the rest of your body’s immune system it in check, your immune system would eat away at your eyes causing you to go blind. Your eyes are seen as a foreign threat by the body, which is why we have protection. Chaotic Gore Magala has lost this protection, and likely in an attempt to fight off the Frenzy Virus eating away at its own body - his natural defenses have consumed one of his eyes.
During the fight if you listen closely to his theme music, you can hear a dragon wailing in pain. It’s the Chaotic Magala. This animal is slowly killing itself, dying - and it’s the Hunters job to put it down before it kills indiscriminately, or worse - makes more.
    25:00
Primordial Malzeno, the shining knight of Elgado. This is actually the original form of Malzeno - he was never truly a vampire. Those little leeches (known as Qurio) force a symbiotic relationship with Malzeno in the wild: you let me sit on your neck and protect me from predators and I’ll help you hunt by draining your prey’s fluids. It’s an example of real life mutualism (both species in a symbiotic relationship benefit) in Monster Hunter. Truth be told however, Qurio like real leeches are parasites. Parasyte are never truly trying to help you.
Primordial Malzeno however has rejected this relationship, and the Qurio are attempting to forcibly bond with Malzeno, which is why it is killing them off in this cutscene. During the fight, they will force Malzeno to take their power - which causes Primoridal Mal to go crazy mid fight. Like Chaotic Gore Magala, he isn’t meant to exist, and it shows as his fight gets wilder as the Qurio forcibly inject their stolen fluids into his body.
When you manage to slay one of these, the Quiro will end up dying with the Malzeno. While a regular Malzeno will have the Qurio leave the body and attempt to find a new host - Primordial isn’t about to let parasites live and he takes their lives with him. A knight who is attempting to guard his kingdom from an unforeseen threat, truly worthy of his silver armor.
Monster Hunter is so cool. Scratch that _nature_ is so cool!

For the Chaotic Gore Magala lore bit, a Gore Magala turns into a Chaotic when it sheds too close to another Shagaru Magala, not Gore Magala. Gores primarily propagate the virus around just for infection, while Shagaru propagate the "species" of Gore Magala with their own superior version of the Frenzy Virus. As such, Shagaru's virus overcomes the Gore's weaker one and halts its shedding so there wont be an overspread of the virus all throughout. This is very interesting because when you think about it, from a natural perspective, it makes sense. Viruses need hosts to actually live and thrive, no hosts means no living, which is why there are "just" frenzy monsters and Gore Magalas most of the time. They die off quick after exhausting themselves due to said virus as well, due to it basically overthrowing their neural systems. It's very similar to rabies irl.
Another thing about the Magala family, as recent lore suggests, they are technically the Frenzy Virus themselves given form! When a Shagaru's frenzy virus infects another monster, they actually begin to be reformed into a Gore Magala from a cellular standpoint. It's a really weird virus alright. Perhaps thats why Gore Magala are classified as ??? instead of an actual Elder Dragon or any other classification. It is entirely possible each and every Gore or even Shagaru we have fought actually came from a variety of different monsters. Leviathans, Flying Wyverns, Bird Wyverns, Fanged Wyverns, Fanged Beasts.

A tidbit about the three lords, Garangolm, Lunagaron, and Malzeno, they're all based on horror movie and other fictional/legendary monsters. Garangolm is Frankenstein's monster and the various golems (look up the golem of Prague). Lunagaron is a werewolf, and those have existed since the Greek eras (its where the term lycanthrope comes from. King Lycan). And Malzeno is vampires/Dracula. Which again is actually a very ancient type of monster. Like the Jiang Shi being a far east one.
But since most of these monsters in the expansion reference western myths and the like, they get that other treatment compared to the yokai poems from base Rise. Its also why you get the demon to angel aspect of Gore and Shagaru Magala, and even a fallen angel with poor Chaotic Gore.
Oh and some fun about Astalos, they actually charge up the electricity in their bodies just by moving. Each movement of their wings, head crest, tail, all of it generates electricity.

Lunagaron is actually the total opposite of Zinogre. Where Zinogre is all about raw power, and Lunagaron is all about speed and agility. They do have a Turf War with each other though, and if I remember right (I haven't played Rise in a long while so I could certainly be wrong here), it's a Turf War that Zinogre wins, since Zinogre can shrug off most of Lunagaron's hits (despite the fact that Lunagaron being an Ice monster gives it an elemental edge over Thunder monsters like Zinogre) and only needs to land one or two solid hits of it's own to swat Lunagaron away like an overeager puppy.
Garangolm, Lunagaron, & Malzeno also are collectively classified as the "Three Lords", as they are all very high on their respective food chains and tend to inhabit the same region and ecosystem as each other. But they are not friendly with each other despite being collectively called the Three Lords, and they will attack each other if they cross paths.
And Astalos is my favorite Flying Wyvern class monster (it's also one of the most aggressive, as it will attack the moment it notices your presence), while Zinogre is my favorite Fanged Wyvern. Lightning tends to be my favorite element in general anyway, which also helps. Though my favorite Elder Dragon isn't the Thunder element Kirin, but rather the Ice element Velkhana, though Malzeno is a very close second. I just love it when Dragons are portrayed as regal, elegant, and extremely intelligent/cunning creatures rather than mindless and savage beasts (this is why Grigori from Dragon's Dogma is bar none my favorite video game Dragon ever, as even though you only see him in person a total of three times throughout the entire game, he makes every single appearance matter, and he absolutely steals the show every single time).
Espinas is a particularly nasty monster, especially for something that isn't an Elder Dragon. It's fire breath doesn't just set you on fire, it will also poison and paralyze you at the same time, which can very easily result in you getting KO'd and sent back to camp on a stretcher (commonly known as "carting"). And Espinas is also unique in that it's hide is so thick and tough that even if you attack it while it's fast asleep, it will usually take several hits before it actually wakes up and starts to fight back, because it's natural armor and hide is so tough that it can barely even feel your attacks while it's asleep, and your attacks will usually just bounce right off of it.
Gore Magala is a huge threat to whatever ecosystem it's in due to the "Frenzy" virus it carries, which is fatal to other monsters whenever it infects them, and I believe death by Frenzy virus is one of the most painfully slow deaths possible for a monster (in a sense, Frenzy may be the Monster Hunter equivalent of Rabies). That Goss Harang that fought the Gore Magala may have tried to fight back, but once it got infected with Frenzy, it's fate was sealed even had it _won_ the fight. This is why a sighting of a Gore Magala, Chaotic Gore Magala, or Shagaru Magala usually results in an immediate hunt being issued for it in order to stamp out the threat of a Frenzy virus outbreak ASAP.

Sunbreaks main monsters were based on European mythology
Malzeno was based on Dracula/vampires in the corrupt form
Primordial Malzeno was based on a virtuous knight
Garongolm was based on Frankenstein/ golems, (to be honest I don’t think there’s a single person who thought golem when they first saw Garongolm)
Lunagaron was based on werewolves obviously (best monster in Sunbreak, fight me)
Gaismagorm was based on the Devil.
Espinas gets a mention because he’s technically an old monster that got a much needed reboot. He was created as the flagship of the spin off game Frontier and was supposed to come to mainline service years ago. However due to in office politics he was sidelined and we got lavisioth instead in the mainstream games.
And funny thing about seregios, for the longest time he was called Steve😂. They needed a code name for him until they revealed him and the people were like “Just call him Steve!” And the name stuck. He’s also called the Pinecome for rather obvious reasons.

The thing about Furious Rajang is that they don't have a tail, if a normal Rajang powers up so it's Fur turns gold it's only temporary, like if it get tired it will return to it's normal stage and the same happens if it gets enought hits on it's tail. Because of unknown reasons there are Rajangs that somehow don't have a tail anymore, so they are forever in this power up stage and they get access to even stronger power ups.

BTW, going by the Japanese, Bazelgeuse seems to be pronounced as “bah-zel-gius.” With a hard G.
Also, most of the monsters, specifically Wyvern Feet/ ?”Wyvernopods”? (*Sauropod was taken*)/ *Flying Wyverns* , Theropods/ *Brute Wyverns* , 4-Legged/ ?”Quadrapods”? (*Tetrapod was taken*)/ *Fanged Wyverns* (*like “Thunder Puppy” Zinogre and Lunagaron*), and those of Bird Feet (*which I call “Avipods,” since Ornithopod was taken*) that consists of *Bird Wyverns* (*which aren’t even that close to birds*) and *Runner Wyverns* (*which get called Bird Wyverns, but phylogenetically aren’t*) are all technically dinosaurs, as they’re all Saurischians. … *Yep, Thunder Puppy’s a literal dino.*

    • @AngiraBlu
      @AngiraBlu 2 місяці тому

      Also, quick notes about Amatsu:
It’s the reason Zinogre shows up and becomes the 1st Fanged Wyvern introduced and one of the most famous 2nd generation flagships. An Amatsu showed up on their turf, which scared them off too close to civilization.
It also destroyed a whole kingdom, several years prior to the events of Rise and Sunbreak. 2 of the NPCs are the sole survivors of said kingdom, with the youngest being the princess, who was an infant when the Amatsu struck, and the oldest being her protector and de facto foster father.
