Man…I was on a path to prison when I was a juvenile, multiple incarcerations as a teenager. I even hit LA County jail twice. The second time, for a week. That’s when I told myself, “you’re gonna go to prison if you don’t snap out of it”. Never had another brush with the law. Gives me chills seeing young men sentenced to prison. Keeps me humble and grateful.

Worst brush with the law since was 1995: I was issued a speeding ticket. Now, at 56, I spend 99% of my time visiting foreign countries. The thing that gets me most about this guy is that he was blank when the judge asked him (at the first hearing) why he would walk away from injured friends trapped in that car! It was weird, and shows he has no empathy! The thing about his grandma telling him she was leaving at critical moments was exactly what my mom did to me when I was in a very vulnerable situation with a baby….she would suddenly say, “I’ve waited long enough! I told your sister I’d go with the mall with her, so you’ll have to find another way home.” I’m glad Judge Boyd couldn’t remotely understand that, because it means that, even though life was hard for her mother, she wasn’t mentally ill. People can’t understand that there are parents who are incapable of love and that messing with their children’s minds and non-violently traumatizing them is like a sport. If you don’t get that, you should be counting your blessings every day.

Your country has the highest incarceration rate of a first world nation. I dont think more prison is gonna fix it, because if prison was the answer you'd have solved it by now. From the outside it really just looks like USA sets people up to fail and then takes pleasure in punishing the people who were set on that path. I dont know why, i dont know how to fix it. But nowhere else has as many people locked up as USA, and it cant be that americans are geneteticaly more prone to crime, so its gotta be something about society that fails these young people long before they stand in front of a judge.

Boyd was dancing a very fine line of judicial misconduct with her "threat" of knocking off hours for getting the fraud shot. If any good lawyer were to want to do something about that, the whole sentence would have probably been 86'd. Totally inappropriate for her to even dance on that floor.
