Dementia can affect the mental state of the elderly and an increased sex drive is reported. We had issues with my grandma before she passed, as she had dementia and became sexually aggressive with the elderly men. We were all really grossed out and couldn’t figure out why she was doing it. Hopefully the evaluation will be to his benefit and if he has issues then they can be addressed. Poor child.

Dementia is terrible to be around and having to go through. My dad made it to 99 and the last 4 years were brutal. My mom made it to 90 with full blown Alzheimer's for about 3 years and that was awful. My sister and I hope that we die long before that stuff kicks in. So very sorry for you. I had an illness two years ago concerning my bladder closing, and a terrible infection with spiked high fever, and it went untreated for so long, I collapsed. When I came to, I was full blown delusional. My mind was completely gone for three full days. I dreamed, and would not quit talking, screaming, laughing, etc at all these scenarios my mind was creating. I remember nothing. I put my daughter through hell. When I got in the hospital they diagnosed what was wrong, and for three more days, with aggressive antibiotics I was still out, but was slowly coming back. It took a full month for these delusions to go away. I remember my daughter crying one night, saying Please, mom, please come back. I almost broke her. I can't imagine you having to go through that with both of your parents, and their mind never came back. I'm so sorry. My sister in law went through it with her mother. I was not with my husband any more but close to his sister and mother still. I saw the saddest things. She went to not knowing any of us, at all. It was way worse for my sister in law, who was her caregiver and got treated horribly by her, and of course her mother couldn't help it. So, I've seen both sides, and I feel so badly for you and your sister. I will say a special prayer for you, if you don't mind. Take care 😊

@hollyardis4524 just after my baby weaned, I had Bell's Palsy and was put on very low dose steroids to try and reduce any swelling on the nerve. 10 days after my last dose, we were at a very low key (confetti on the tables and crock-pot buffet line) church basement wedding and I started having wild hallucinations. We dropped kids at in-laws and husband wanted to watch me at home, but convinced him to take me to ER bc, "Iknow I am hallucinating now but what if I xant tell I am hallucinating later" and he falls asleep watching TV. I remember getting told to wait after checking in - obviously I was low priority- a brief moment of laughing hysterically in an exam room and then waking up on the neuro surgery floor - so something got enough for me an overnight observation in a bed tent/light restraints. Apparently, I had a cortisol crash and started literally "sundowning" before I got to tuck in to the mac-n-cheese hotdish casserole.

@@KristiLEvans1 If that's actually the case, then him really having dementia would potentially be a defense. Which does raise the possibility that he's faking, though, if he is, the defense attorney probably isn't in on it, because he wasn't going to ask for it until the judge suggested it, and he asked for the court to have him evaluated rather than hiring his own expert.
I think that his attorney is under the impression that he is in a lot of pain, and may not be able to think straight in the moment and fully process what everyone is saying, but would otherwise be able to do so if he wasn't in pain. Still, agreeing to the competency evaluation meets his clients needs very well, because it delays the plea deadline, gets him out of the courtroom, and on the off chance he really does have something wrong, addresses it.
I am not sure what that man's angle is, or what he did, and I am certainly not rooting for him, but, his attorney needs to be protecting his rights, and the process has to be fair so that if he is guilty of whatever he did, he gets punished for it.

I'm sure impressed with this judge. imo Very Patient. She really sees each person in front of her and her judgements/advice are tailored to best help the person improve (& not re-offend). I wish all judges were as personally involved as this judge. Yeah, she was stuck/wrong on saying the one gal was lying about going to her Mom's rather than her grandmother's house, but she saw through the fib to be sure the gal was in a place that would give her a chance of developing rather than slipping back into old habits. A bright spot in the system, this judge. Mad respect.

I think he was treated equally. Too bad he may have touched a child. That's disgusting and I have no compassion for that. He will be long dead before that child has the chance to resolve the pain this old geezer may have caused. [Before you come for me, I'm an old geezer and I just call 'em like I see 'em. Very rare for law enforcement to bring charges. against someone like him.] In my opinion
p.s. I retired from a District Attorney's office and I appreciate that Judge Boyd is one of the finest legal minds practice justice in her State.

This judge is so cool. She is feminine. She is tougher than any male. But there is always the purse and the flowers, neautiful clothes and hair. I live in lubbock texas and i wish she would start a school for judges and another one for females. I am 69 years old now and i am an air force veteran. I was in electronic repair and it was mostly men. Very hard to hold on to femininity. I admire and salute this wonderful judge.

Those manipulative stalling tactics by that rude lawyer and that old pedo were not fooling anyone . They thought they were slick cooking up that little charade to try and grind down the prosecutors a bit more after today’s plea deadline .I’m amazed she took

The judge suggested that the gentleman undergo a competency assessment. That’s a plus. I stand corrected if I missed something
