One thing I'm also noticing, is that Felix never tells her to 'calm down'; He will say things like 'you're ruining the flowers' or 'you'll get Antonio wet'. But unlike the Grandmother, he's not telling her not to feel these emotion's. He's just highlighting the effects her emotions are having to the things and people around her.
This way's she could maybe decide if she'd like to continue ranting...but possibly go outside instead of doing it in the house or so close to their son. Felix is such a good husband/dad

i didn't notice during the movie but at the end when she's dancing under the snow, it shows that she's finally able to express her negative emotions without being forced to calm down.
Even more than that I think she's able to actually control the weather now. She's happy in that scene, but it's still hailing, implying she's making it hail on purpose. That's just my two cents, though.
Even though she was "Forced" to calm down because her mood swings are dangerous. She can summon literal hurricanes because she's a little stressed.

Can we talk about how good and cute husband Felix is? He is always with Pepa, trying to calm her down or make her happy, and not speaking directly that she has a cloud on her head, which seems to get worse and is often said by the Abuela. But he talks to her calmly or tries to help her however he is, he is very cute.
Truly a perfect match, since he embraces all of Pepa's weather moments from the hurricane to hail. Saw a comment that Julietta and Augustin also are a perfect match cause he is accident prone and she heals and that's probably how they met. Either way, point is I like how both the husbands compliment their wives so well.

@@peppocket7683 I would say it's the tie between the two but in different ways. Luisa had all the physical, palpable pressure. But if she is grumpy, or sad, nothing will happen. I mean, she might feel like she is letting people down if she is grumpy about the responsibilities put upon her but, let's say that something random happens. Like, she spills something and gets annoyed. I don't think anyone would have a negative reaction to this.
On the other hand, Pepa CAN'T get annoyed when she spills something because, oh, well, now it's raining inside!
@@peppocket7683 Though she had her own solo song about her feelings, I don't think it means her struggles are greater than another's in a sense. Everyone relies on her to do tasks and the idea of failing others would make her feel like a failure. However, Pepa have to constantly struggle controlling how she feels for the sake of not affecting the weather would could affect everyone around her. In addition, Bruno was shunned for his gift as they associated him and his future readings as bad to the point he hid away just to make others happy. In addition, Mirabel does everything she can without a power to help her family and town to be cast aside in the beginning of the movie. I feel like so many is going through their own struggles and it's hard to try to say this person is going through more than the other.
Pepa is such an interesting character in the movie because her “gift” is the only one that truly seems more like a curse. While it can be useful, it just seems to cause issues most of the time and is something she literally can’t turn off (even Bruno can just choose to not use his gift again). She’s miserable from having to constantly bottle up her emotions and while all seems well at the end, realistically her keeping her gift seems like a lot worse of a fate then losing it. If I was Mirabel I would have been happy to not have a gift as opposed to getting Pepa’s.
Pepa and Dolores must have been so relived when they lost their gifts
I feel like Dolores gift is just as bad, only difference being peppas gift can affect other people. She can hear EVERYTHING. ALWAYS. She hears Luisa’s eye twitch on the other side of town which means SHE CAN HEAR EYE MOVEMENTS….from everyone in town. She can hear what anyone and everyone in town is doing at any time and she cant turn it off, sounds that are just ‘loud’ to people cause her physical pain. She could hear Bruno in the walls, conversations in the house, ANYTHING. Her gift is kinda awful except in niche scenarios

The worst part: Peppa's sadness and irritation can spiral out into full blown storms for the area(Married in a Hurricane). What if Happiness is the same? What if the town has to deliberately ensadden her occasionally so perpetual sunny days don't cause a drought?
I'd imagine that the tempestuousness of her cloud is as a direct result of supressing it, though. It's -- like how clouds work in real life, right? They get heavy until they reach a breaking point, then there's a downpour.
I think if she's expressing her emotions, they'll become more manageable over time and the weather she makes more mild. There'll still be storms and scorching days, for sure, but that's a part of nature.
i found it really sad that abuela literally never gave a shit about her feelings and was always more concerned about the clouds above her head instead of asking her if she was alright or why she was troubled at all. theyre all gifted but one way or another it all looks like a curse under the surface💀

Most of this is because Abuela had no one to ask her if she was alright, especially after losing her husband and being left alone to raise 3 babies all on her own. With no support, other than the miracle. This affected her and is why she is super stubborn and a little hard on her children.

I know trauma can make you act in wierd ways but that does not excuse making someone feel like they are not part of the family, putting all physical burden on a single person, expecting another to be perfect all the time and to abide by her wishes completely and expecting someone else to be in a good mood when the only time she speaks to the said person is to remind her that she is inconveniencing the community simply by being a human and having emotions.
Even though all of their gifts are metaphors for something, Abuela telling Pepa to calm down isn't bad. Her mood swings are dangerous and affect everyone. Ypu literally watched her summon a hurricane because she was a little stressed out and we dont know if Abuela made her that way or if she's just naturally erratic.

Maybe Mirabel should feel lucky that she didn't get a gift. Considering Pepa & Dolores' "gifts" just made their lifes harder.

Both her and Bruno's gift's seem to be more trouble than they are worth. Of the triplets, only Mirabel's mom lucked out. Healing people with a meal doesn't seem to have any downsides.
I wonder why mirabel's mom was lucked out, is it because she was the youngest of the triplets probably 5 seconds late or whatever and the same thing is happening to Mirabel , Luisa , Isabelle while Mirabel is stress that she cant help her family, Luisa and Isabelle has to with stand the pressure of abuela's burdens...

Maybe the downside to Julieta’s gift is is that her food can’t save everyone and she struggles with guilt over the “patients” she loses? She might berate herself for not getting to a gravely injured person in time to heal them, or for not being able to cure serious diseases with her cooking.
I mean, Bruno was capable of just choosing to not use his gift, and it's not his fault he only saw bad things happening. Pepa probably had it the worst.

I feel like Pepa is the only one who would've definitely been better off losing her powers for good.
She could be a great protector for the family if she gained more control but there's no villains in this movie so she's only an emotionally repressed and neurotic woman whose condition is only made worse by her abilities.
Imagine being upset and always getting rained on or being in the center of a hurricane. And it seems her powers are *only* tied to her emotions, so pulling an Elsa probably would do more harm than good in the long run and even if she had to protect her family from someone, she'd have to be in a horrible mental state to do it.
Pepa is one of the most tragic characters in this film, if not the most. Imagine endangering your family and/or village because you stubbed your toe.

I absolutely adore Felix. He supports Pepa to the fullest. He supports his whole family. The breakfast scene where he touched her hand and she calmed down. Before then he gave Antonio a thumbs up for warming Abuela seat.
Felix is such a good husband, he embraces every part that makes his wife a treasure to him, even finding the positives in what others others would find negative about her.
The detail of Dolores covering her ears when the thinder happens is cool and could tie back to yet another reason Pepa tries to stay happy all the time

i think thats really interesting considering she has the same actress. it shows that the choice was less up to actor interpretation and more of a deliberate cultural change to reflect latam media and tropes
Can we just appreciate how this family feels like a family, all the different shades and the fact that she is a throwback probably to an ancestor in Spain it makes sense that she came out fair with coloured eyes. It feels like my family ( I’m black, but my two siblings have white fair skin)
I love how much emotion she has in her voice even as she tries to keep her emotions to a minimum: the way she goes ‘shoo shoo!’ as she literally pushes her negative emotions away. When she's worried she rains, when she's scared she is thundery, and when she's scared and anxious she gets to the point of being snowy... so what does it mean that she was haily all happy? Edit: nevermind. It's obvious that by the end of the movie, she's in a state of mind where she's able to control her powers and her powers are not controlling her. So that fact that she's hailing doesn't reflect her emotions, just that she is able to do it.

I think there's a big distinction from Pepa "controlling" the weather, Mira says "her mood affects the weather", so it's probable she probably won't ever be able to control it. She can try to repress it, sure, but if she feels an emotion, something will happen.
Let’s talk about how Isabela’s flowers calmed Pepa down. It’s like the flowers that bloom after rain lol. Pepa stresses about having perfect events and what makes an event more perfect than a bunch of flowers as decoration? And these might be one of the reasons why Isabela is Abuela’s favorite. It’s her job to keep everyone in the town happy. P.s. It must be stressful for Pepa to always suppress her emotions and I know some people complain about the frozen reference but it’s a good parallel. She needs to allow herself to let go and be a little emotional sometimes.

The Voice actor is Colombian, Carolina Gaitán. She made both voices English and Spanish.
I know it’s subtle, it’s so sweet seeing how Felix not only takes care of Pepa, but also how he tries to help her relax but not force it, and stands up for her when she feels judged by how she feels

One of the embodiments of toxic perfectionism. It can be anyone, male or female, that does everything to make sure everything else is perfect, which is unreachable and unrealistic. Such behavior is sadly pushed by others. In this character's case, her mother. Proof that these magical gifts are actually curses and Mirabel is the truly lucky one.

During 0:40 - 0:50 you can see the bags under her eyes, and since she controls the weather I dont think makeup is recommended for her(she gets emotional outburst easily, shell easily get her makeup ruined if she wasnt feeling okay)
since her gift is "emotions affecting the weather" id like to think that the cloud is usually just above her because shes keeping it (her emotions) to herself unlike during the dinner she lost control and made a big cloud ,, shows that shes actually calm on her standards
I got a friend with intense anxiety and he says this is the most accurate metaphor for how he feels when he gets overwhelmed by a situation.

well, I think it was to be expected, you cannot marry someone and their gift if you are not willing to expect the worst of their gift

She low-key reminds me of Raven from the teen titans who also has to control her emotions. They're kind of opposites though since Raven adapted by becoming basically emotionless while Pepa just represses everything.

Pepa is so relatable for me, especially with my DID and anxiety like trying to keep it all together and having a caring husband who grounds me like how Felix does for Pepa, it's refreshing seeing emotions being presented like this, especially for a children's standpoint because they can relate also to the cloud being anger or stress, rain as being upset or hurt, clear skies as calm and rainbows as happiness
Ah! I just watched this and thought about how she was relatable to me and you got it-! I personally feel a lot of the Madrigals are symbolic of something else, like I feel Dolores represents sensory issues, and Camilo could be- open to interpretation, but thats what I love about this movie

Fun Fact: Pepa was always told that rain and thunder was bad and that sunny meant happy, so at her wedding, Bruno told her that it was going to rain. But that didn’t have to mean it was bad or anything. He was trying to teach her that it wasn’t a bad thing. So she’s hailing at the end of the movie because she learned that storms don't *have* to mean negative emotions. :)
Pepa surely has bad luck with such a gift but it's an amazing effect to show the audience how very emotional people struggle with themselves, especially when they're forced to bottle everything up and only being allowed to express happiness. Respect to Felix for being such an empathetic and patient husband. And you have to give Pepa credit that she isn't afraid to talk back to Abuela and doesn't lash out on innocent family members.

I love how she's dancing in the hail at the end. It shows that she's still a bit hurt, but, is happy that she's free to feel it.

Can we appreciate Felix for never gaslighting her negative emotion like everyone else (mostly alma) do? We can particularly see it in the last song all of you when Bruno says "Let it in, let it out, let it rain, let it snow, let it go" and felix reply "that's what I'm always saying". Felix doesn't want her to suppress her feelings just because they cause bad weather she wants her to let it all out and he wants to be there with her while she does that. He doesn't care about the wedding being "ruined" by the hurricane because in his opinion it wasn't ruined at all because it still was a "joyous day" since they still got to marry even if it wasn't in normal conditions he probably thinks that day was the best day of his life (maybe just after the birthday of his kids but I'm not sure) because he got to be with the person he loves, even if at her worst. Felix LOVES so much Pepa even knowing what her emotions causes and she wants her to express them just like everyone else! She loves her at her best but most importantly she loves her at her worst. They're dinamic it's cute. The only problem about Pepa constant need of reassurance is that sometimes hers kid has to reassure her (like we see in the scene with Camilo trying to reassure her and getting shook by her) it's not healthy for a kid to be the "parent's therapist" I'm not a psychologist and i do not study psychology so i could be wrong but i saw a few people talking about it, I'm not going to go into the details because I don't wanna cause misinformation but i think y'all understand my point
Felix and Bruno are awesome for supporting Pepa in feeling her emotions freely rather than wanting her to suppress them.
I’m really interested in the triplets childhoods. Bruno and Pepa seem to have it rough judging by their anxiety and the way they cope. Julieta had a gift that didn’t seem to make her so anxious compare to her siblings. I really wanna know what they endure as a kid because I can imagine a lot of pressure and bullying.
(Side note: I headcannon Pepa is autistic and kind of on board with the OCD Bruno thing.)

i think with Julieta she really wanted to help others and since anything she cooks heals people, she didn't really need to perfect her powers unlike pepa or bruno. So most likely that took the heat off of her. the only thing is she probably still just perfected her cooking skills over time (yes she can heal with anything she cooks but i would assume that she at least wanted things to still taste good since it is still food)

I feel awful for her because she probably wasn't allow to feel anything but happy and peaceful or else she would be made to feel ashamed and guilty of the 'bad weather' she would bring, while also bieng told to stand out in fields and be sad so they get rain, like her emotions weren't hers, she had to change how she was feeling at any given time to suit the needs of those around her.

Her eyes always looks so tired. It's probably because the only emotion she's only allowed to show is happiness, because if she were to feel anything else they tell her to immediately calm down. Which is so unfair that she can't fully express how she feels as long as it doesn't (literally) rain on other peoples parades. You can see her crack throughout the film, she's progressively getting tired being told to put her rain cloud away. Pepa is just tired of always getting rid of her clouds and only making rainbows.
Felix needs more attention. His interaction with Pepa is too cute to look at.
