3:01 I just want everybody to take a moment to appreciate this scene. Bruno's change in his voice really impressed me when I first watched the movie, because he was literally so determined to protect his niece, that she was ready to even argue with Abuela. Because of his character that's impressive, because in case you didn't know, in the deleted scenes, he actually does have a fight with Abuela, saying that he wishes he was dead, but the creators said Bruno's character wouldn't have the courage to fight with Abuela, that's why they deleted the scene. He was not ready to face Abuela, because of how scared he was of her. Even Mirabel mentioned it "You're scared Abuela will see you, right?". So for him to make such a big step JUST to protect his niece is one of the most wholesome things I saw in the movie.
Something about the fact that he is willing run straight into the fire to protect his niece and is willing take all the blame, punishment, and harassment makes me very very happy inside
To me, the first thing that stood out when I first saw Bruno were his eyes.He is disheveled like a homeless person, but his eyes are so kind, youthful and innocent. And I really loved that they went with this detail, because they say the eyes are "the windows to the soul" and it fits Bruno perfectly Also another neat detail:notice how at first, Bruno's room is aligned with his sisters rooms, but as he distances himself from the family, his room became isolated too.
I just realized that Dolores associates the sound of falling sand to him in "We Don't Talk About Bruno" is because he whips sugar and salt around everywhere
@@arttrixmix7178 he hasn't used his ability since Mirabel was 5, also when she described the sound it's chhh...chhh and not a constant down pour of sound.
It can mean either way, considering Dolores is six years older than Mirabel. Shed have been 11 during the gift giving for Mirabel. Could also mean stories shes heard, or the current sounds of salt (since she still hears him muttering). Its be cute if there was a scene of someone asking to pass the salt and the salt shaker was empty tbh.
“I’m Jorge, I make the spackle” Absolutely kills me each and every time. The hard cut. The absurdity. The voice. That’s the minute I fell in love with this man
I just realized- When Pep talk about her mariage, Bruno is seen with his poncho/ruana covering his head with a "mischeavous grin", but in reality it was just Bruno, interpreting 'Hernando', trying to act bolder than he was feeling because he knew people didn't like him and maybe if he was 'someone else' he could get through it without ending with disaster.... Bruno is such a breath of fresh air, they could've easily made him another villian but they made him one of the most kind hearted and selfless characters in the film. Like this man hid away for 10 years not because his family and the town mistreated him, but because he knew if they saw the vision of Mirabel they would've treated her the same way they treated him, and even despite despite that he stays in the walls of the house because he still loves them. If that doesn't show how much he adores his family then I don't know what will I love the moment at 2:09 when he raises his voice, he immediately apologises and quiets down when he sees Mirabel flinch. It shows his understanding and love for his niece, and it makes you wonder if he saw himself when she flinched He's basically a reverse twist villain, instead of being a seemily nice guy who turns out to be evil without any build up, he's someone who's seen as a villian but in reality he's a complete cinnamon bun and there's just enough hints to have this reveal be believable
He‘s so pure, innocent and worrying / thinking about everybody around him, especially all of his family, which makes him so so precious. Every time he appeared it was so interesting, hope we will see him again with more stories!
If anything Abuella is the twist villain. (Though not on purpose, she just puts too much trust on, "If you do good things, then nothing bad can happen to you")
He is such a sweet person. The fact that he felt responsible for his family's future, he gave up his life, even though he knew that his family will bring him up as a bad memory. That shows how pure and caring he is.
a sequel were the grandmom kills everyone in the town, revives them, gets a new merical of a 3rd chance, and meriabel becomes an imortal demon after the grandmom blames her
I always have lumps on my throat when I remember that scene where he's trying to join their family dinner secretly behind those walls. He's so precious.
I love that the only time he raises his voice at someone it's because he's so terrified Mirabel might cause a rift with her sisters through misunderstanding just like he did. And he knows she loves her sister even if they're at odds. He doesn't keep shouting (he probably knows Dolores doesn't need that anyway) but after 10 years in hiding trying to fix the cracks in la casita he knew he had to be a bit more forceful pulling her away from getting into a bigger fight with Isabela. Just such a wonderful uncle
Something I love about his character is that he’s so afraid of his own prophecies that’s resulted in him being superstitious- whence knocking on all the walls and throwing salt over his shoulder to ward away bad luck- I think that’s amazing character development
Idk if you believe in stuff like this.. but I have visions but obviously not like Bruno. This poor man. He doesn’t make the future, he just sees it. He’s so sweet and gentle. The way he says sorry to Mirabel when he raises his voice. His little social quirks because he’s lived in the walls for so long, but never left his family. 😭😭 Disney did so great when writing his character.
Right. The fact that no one ever consoled him and thought about the burden he carried, always seeing the future and seeing something bad happen. I don't think people see the severity of the situation simply because the family made amends with him, but he felt forced too isolate himself within the walls, for OVER A DECADE. The birthdays he missed, the conversations, the family dinners. All because people couldn't grasp the fact that he's not MAKING things happen, he's just seeing them. And after he was gone no one even felt bad, they continued to treat him like a disease. It's just terrible, and he's owed a huge apology.
@@noelle2654 they probably could grasp it, they were just too afraid of not being the perfect family and the town wasn’t the perfect town, so having an imperfect person in an otherwise perfect town would be easier for everyone else

I think Camilo remembers him as "7 feet tall" and scary because the last time Camilo saw him, Camilo was a very small young child. So it would make sense for him think of him as huge and to a little kid the weird uncle with pet rats and all might seem frightening even if he is a great guy.

How could he be more verbal than „I am TELLING what is going to happen. I am not making it happen“. Edit: They chose to believe that Bruno is at fault because what he saw happens. So when something negative happens they choose to blame him because that is easier than blaming themselves for being noisy.
Is no one gonna talk about how he made it very clear he was terrified of Abuela Alma, and he STILL showed up at the river to defend Mirabel because he thought Abuela Alma was yelling at her for destroying the house?
Bruno is the most selfless of the Madrigals. He separated himself from his family and tarnished his own reputation in their heads to protect Mirabel. He thinks he's bad luck because of how the family antagonizes him; because he would sooner hold contempt for himself than hold his family accountable. He sealed a bunch of the cracks himself in a desperate attempt to preserve a life he could never truly be a part of . . . . for them. When he thought Abuela would blame Mirabel for the house collapsing his first thought was to take all the blame for her. When he met his family again his first thought was to apologize for everything, even for things that weren't really his fault. He's selfless to a point where it's very damaging, but it's also very endearing.
Couldn't agree more! This man really needs some love, gratitude, and validation. He tried his best with everything they need to cut him some slack hope he will be treated better from here on
Bruno- “I don’t care what you think of me! But if you’re too stubborn to [I’ll finish his sentence from here]: see Mirabel’s love for this family then you got another thing coming”
That's not really that unusual from a psychological standpoint. Some people, people with a lot of empathy for others, also have very low opinions of themselves. Hurt them, they'll just hide it inside because they feel they somehow deserve it... but hurt someone or something that they care deeply about, and they'll move mountains to protect what they hold dear. That's Bruno to a T.
Bruno commenting on his sister sweating at her wedding as "it looks like rain" is SUCH a brother thing 🤣 no wonder she took it as a threat (we dont talk about Bruno) 😅
that's how i saw it! Pepe says he had a 'michievious grin' when he said it looked like rain, and it really seems like he was teasing her lol my brother would do the same sort of thing
Lol I just realized the FIRST line we get from him directly AND indirectly is basically “you’re very sweaty” Pepa: *is nervous* Bruno: Looks like rain, huh? 👉👉 Pepa: *panics herself a hurricane* Bruno: oh no what have I done Maribel: HELP! Bruno: You’re very sweaty. Maribel: *drops him* Bruno: AAH gdi I did it AGAIN
Such a great character. I love stories that don't have an obvious villain but instead use a social problem or a misunderstood character to serve as the tension. It's a lot more realistic in many ways.
He was afraid of abuela seeing him, but the moment he saw abuela talking to Mirabel he went to defend her and say he was the one who gave her the prophecy. Bruno really loves his nieces and nephews 😭
The man was ready to throw down with his Mama, the line "And if you're too stubborn to-" is very telling. You don't throw people's flaws in their faces as an insult unless you're ready for war. He wasn't just there to defend Mirabel and take the fall, he was ready to challenge the Matriarch's values, beliefs and morals. Basically round 2 of the Mirabel and Abuela fight, but with Bruno instead. I was so proud of him in that scene, and kinda sad he got cut off.
Camilo singing “Seven foot frame” when Bruno turned out to be the shortest of the triplets kills me every time I think about it 🤣 Precious cinnamon roll Bruno 🥺

Honestly I love this subversion of him so much, for awhile I had assumed he would've been the villain especially after hearing the "We Don't Talk About Bruno" song, only for him to been shown as this super caring and kinda socially awkward dweeb and I just feel in love. Both because he's genuinely adorable and hilarious and because I felt so incredibly bad for him. Like everyone treated him like shit just because he could see the future like he was CAUSING what was happening to people. Hell despite the family straight up villainizing him he still loves them enough that he draws his own dinner setting next to the dining room. Bruno is the best character in this movie hands down.

The way Bruno tried to defend Mirabel from Abuella and how he said: "I don't care what you think of me!" God, John Leguizamo NAILED this character! He's extremely sympathetic and relatable! Hopefully, in the sequel (if it happens) maybe Bruno will find himself a lover like his twin sisters did.
One of the main things I love about Bruno? He NEVER stopped looking out for Maribel. He literally left the family to protect her, not wanting his final vision to ruin how everyone saw her. He even rode in on a horse, prepared to tell Abuela off for blaming Maribel for what happened to the house. That is HUGE for Bruno's character. He was used to keeping quiet and letting people think the worst about him; but he was prepared to stand up to Abuela once and for all --- all so he could protect Maribel from possibly going through what HE was going through. He really IS a great uncle!
I thought the same thing. I love how much he cared for her and loved her, even though it seemed like they didn’t interact much before he had the vision.
It gets even more wholesome when we think about how Mirabel was also doing the same for Antonio. She reassured him that he won't be any less if he didn't get a gift and that she'd always be happy for him no matter what, most likely because she doesn't want him to feel like how she does. It's interesting to see the differences in how they deal with generational trauma, compared with how Abuela dealt with it
I like the details of him knocking on wood, and throwing salt over his shoulder. Ways of preventing bad luck. As well as avoiding the cracks in the floors.
Not to be mean, but I will say this: he could've lied about what he actually saw. Not to say that it wasn't sweet he was protective of his youngest niece, but no one else knew what he saw so he could've just lied about what the vision was.
@@Elmithian True. I'm just saying it couldn't hurt. It would hurt him, but he was willing to abandon his family, so he was probably going to hurt anyway
@@sarah98917 He could have tried, but I agree with the other that he probably has a hard time lying. Maybe she would have even insisted on being present for a session to see for herself if everything was truly 'fine.'
People depict this guy as a villain and discriminated poor Bruno, but seeing him... He's actually much cuter than he seems and he's one of the sweetest people I've ever seen on Disney.

And all because he's watching his neice go through similar stuff he and his siblings went through. He raises his voice for a moment to snap her out of being angry because he's scared for her to lose her siblings the way he feels he lost his. He's a wonderful uncle
Yeah, it's sad how "sorry" has basically become a verbal tic for him, he says it so often that it's now something he more or less says out of habit and because he's developed a sort of guilt complex. Sadly that is not uncommon in victims of abuse or even bullying. Victims of abuse/bullying develop a habit of apologizing a lot because they hope to appease the other person and/or because they genuinely feel guilty for even the slightest "offenses". I also have a habit of apologizing too much, to the point where people will point it out and tell me not to apologize. It's a hard habit to break though, sometimes it just slips out without me even really thinking. And I do feel genuinely bad anytime I say or do something that I perceive as being wrong or rude. The only exception to this rule is when I'm really angry, but even then I feel bad afterwards about the things I said.
@@RainbowEssence-c3w I do that too, though I've never been bullied in my life. I remember my stepmother telling me one time that I should stop saying sorry so much and I proceeded to immediately illustrate that I was a lost cause. Went something like this: "Yeah... Sorry. [idiot pause] _Sorry_ . SORRY! [hand over mouth]" lol.
Another Bruno moment I love is when he’s trying to save his rats and uses the bucket to protect his head. It both cracks me up and love him more, he’s a rat dad.
Also there is a little bit in the song 'we don't talk about Bruno' when Mirabelle is with her female cousin you can see Bruno just giving on the top balcony
Y'know considering he probably left when most of his sister's kids were either A.) Not born or B.) Extremely young, him "playing as different characters" seems like something an uncle would do to cheer up/play with their nieces and nephews. Like a parent doing a funny voice to cheer you up. It was probably a stuck behavior for Bruno, as he left when most of his sisters' kids were, at the time, little or hadn't been born yet.
The reason Bruno was so frowned upon is because he was the bearer of bad news, in reality he was just an honest person who didn’t do the whole “vague oracle” thing. He would tell people straight up what would happen. He could probably to the prophetic mystical secret thing where he tells people just enough to make it clear he knew what’s going to happen before it happens but not tell them exactly what’s going to happen.
It's like when people get mad at the doctor when they get bad news. The doctor didn't give you the illness. But people want somebody to blame for their misfortune. It's easier to say "Bruno made me fat" rather than "I overeat and don't work out so that's why I'm fat."
@@HollowBagel and if the vision mirabel made him have later was anything to go by, it mightve not necessarily been unclear; Bruno just didn't see everything

I just want everybody to take a moment to appreciate this scene.
Bruno deserves "The World's Greatest Uncle" award in this scene alone.

The only thing I didn't like about that scene was that she didn't apologize.
If that doesn't show how much he adores his family then I don't know what will
I love the moment at 2:09 when he raises his voice, he immediately apologises and quiets down when he sees Mirabel flinch. It shows his understanding and love for his niece, and it makes you wonder if he saw himself when she flinched
He's basically a reverse twist villain, instead of being a seemily nice guy who turns out to be evil without any build up, he's someone who's seen as a villian but in reality he's a complete cinnamon bun and there's just enough hints to have this reveal be believable
He‘s so pure, innocent and worrying / thinking about everybody around him, especially all of his family, which makes him so so precious. Every time he appeared it was so interesting, hope we will see him again with more stories!

It's an absolute CRIME that we didn't get to see more of Bruno singing. Imagine if he had his own musical number!
That would be great.
Omg a Bruno song would be incredible! Maybe something about the time he spent hiding, his loneliness, and how his family treated him.

She must of been terrified hearing Mirabel calling for help as she nearly fell to her "death".
@@therealopaartist jeez! imagine how TRAUMATIZING that must of been!
Yep! Well until the moment she loses her power
That moment was so brave for him. My favorite is when he says, “I don’t care what you think of me!”
It gets even more wholesome when we think about how Mirabel was also doing the same for Antonio. She reassured him that he won't be any less if he didn't get a gift and that she'd always be happy for him no matter what, most likely because she doesn't want him to feel like how she does. It's interesting to see the differences in how they deal with generational trauma, compared with how Abuela dealt with it
@@razertheredlantern6203 Same.
I agree with you. But her name is Mirabel lol not Maribel. For some reason, this simple spelling error confused the fuck out of me.
I like the details of him knocking on wood, and throwing salt over his shoulder. Ways of preventing bad luck. As well as avoiding the cracks in the floors.
He ostracized himself for 10 years the sake of mirabel, he's an angel.
Not to be mean, but I will say this: he could've lied about what he actually saw. Not to say that it wasn't sweet he was protective of his youngest niece, but no one else knew what he saw so he could've just lied about what the vision was.
@@sarah98917 He is likely too honest or too easy to read to be able to lie convincingly
@@Elmithian True. I'm just saying it couldn't hurt. It would hurt him, but he was willing to abandon his family, so he was probably going to hurt anyway
@@sarah98917 He could have tried, but I agree with the other that he probably has a hard time lying. But also his mother most likely would have constantly begged/demanded him to check future or to know what he saw. I doubt at the time she was gonna let it slide that 'everything was fine'. Maybe she would have even insisted on being present for a session to see for herself if everything was truly 'fine.'
He loved his niece and wanted Mirabel to have a good life as he understood what it was like to be a misfit in their family.

@@austinwitham109 For real

Bruno is honestly the most sympathetic character in the movie.
I might have to agree with you
Y'know considering he probably left when most of his sister's kids were either A.) Not born or B.) Extremely young, him "playing as different characters" seems like something an uncle would do to cheer up/play with their nieces and nephews.
Well he does not know what exactly what’s going on,
@@joshuaded1052 He said he only didn't know what was going to happen with Mirabel. A vision being unclear or undecided was new to him.
It's like when people get mad at the doctor when they get bad news. The doctor didn't give you the illness. But people want somebody to blame for their misfortune. It's easier to say "Bruno made me fat" rather than "I overeat and don't work out so that's why I'm fat."
