Foxes are very sophisticated!
The red fox 🦊 has superb hearing which allows it to navigate in total darkness!
Exactly like how my persian cats dive on the blanket every time I move my toe.

My beloved Tasha, a beautiful, clownish and awesome Sibe use to do this already at just 8 months old. She practiced and practiced with any deep snow. I always put a huge pile of snow in the yard when it snowed for her around 800 sqft of deep snow so she could hone her skills and have fun. She was a great family member. She passed at age 12. It's been 22 years now that she left for the rainbow bridge but she is playing with her buddy Nutmeg and Travis while waiting for me.
I miss you guys so much.
❤
That Was AMAZING!!! 🦊
👏👏👏 This channel never disappoints
foxes so amazing creatures
Foxes can see magnetic fields? How is that possible?
They see a “ring of shadow” and when they line up with the North Pole, using it to measure distance, they get their prey 72% of the time rather than 18% of the time when not lined up.
“The pair think a fox hunts best if it can jump the same distance every time. Burda suggests that it sees a ring of “shadow” on its retina that is darkest towards magnetic north, and just like a normal shadow, always appears to be the same distance ahead. The fox moves forward until the shadow lines up with where the prey’s sounds are coming from, at which point it is a set distance away.”
Keep in mind that they also say the idea is speculative, but personally, I think it’s pretty accurate because the idea isn’t actually that foreign. Apparently cows use the magnetic field of Earth too when herding together. Also, not just foxes use the magnetic pole. For example, dogs, and maybe cats as well, align themselves with a north to south direction when going to the bathroom. It’s just more comfortable for them to go to the bathroom when facing either north or south rather than east or west. So, if you have a dog, you should see which direction they’re facing. The dog will most likely be facing either a north or south direction rather than an east or west facing direction.
Here’s the source that I quoted from btw

There has to be something else going there. The fox has to break through 1-2 feet of snow (3 feet snow is a bit of a legend), but the vole has to also "freeze" in that precise moment to be caught.
How do they record the vole tho?
Great hunting technique under snow!
Beauty! Super! 😊👍👍👍
Voles use grass and twigs to reinforce their tunnels, apparently

Why don't the prey dig deeper
Some dogs do that bouncing act as well.
None need know where magnetic North is to triangulate.
Why can't a dog that?
My condolences to the family of the vole. The family lost a grain winner or a lovely mama or a gran or a baby.
