All us teenagers in the late 70,s had huge crushes on Rita Coolidge. She is beautiful. Her voice is so amazing😁
I agree completely. She was an absolute angel!
I've seen recent photos of her. She's still a good-looking woman. She now resides in Tallahassee with her husband whom she married in 2018.
I was 8 or 9 years old in the late 70s and I had a crush on her. Many years later, I briefly met her sister Priscilla when she was 50-something. She was strikingly beautiful, not like a person you see every day. I was a little awestruck meeting someone like this at her parents place deep in the redwoods of Northern California.
I STILL HAVE that crush lol
Love Rita Coolidge!!! Lots of sweet memories associated with her music!!!
Rita Coolidge had a lot of great songs especially in the 70's-80's. "(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher & Higher", "I'd Rather Leave While I'm in Love", "The Way You Do The Things You Do", "You", "All Time High" (theme song from 1983 James Bond film "Octopussy") etc. Rita was married for a time to Kris Kristofferson & they had some great duets together.
I haven't heard that pretty voice in years, but I remembered the words instantly. This was early teen years. The show was from West Germany, so most people in the States would not have seen this before the internet. I do know it was written by Boz Skaggs, whom I think was awesome. If you know his music, you can almost hear him singing. If you haven't checked him out, it is worth a listen - good old blue-eyed soul.
Love her voice
My mom had her album while I was growing up and I just loved her voice. She was someone I loved to listen to her.
The song brings so much memories. Rita Coolidge, a wonderful favourite. I had this album in the 70s and again, so many happy and sad memories.
rita Coolidge is a full blooded Cherokee. She, her sister, and her niece create a singing group that sings native Cherokee songs. I think their group is called Walena. Listen to their Cherokee Morning Song. It is gorgeous
You could very well be correct but her Wiki page says she is of Scottish ancestry and the pages states she believes her ancestors were Cherokee but it implies she doesn't really know. Weird.
Rita was a beautiful singer, married Kris Kristofferson ,they sang take the ribbon from your hair fabulous song ❤❤
The title of the song you’re referring to is Help Me Make It Through The Night, written by Kris. He also did duets of it with Lorrie Morgan and, much later, Norah Jones.
Rita Coolidge was (and probably still is) a beautiful lady with a beautiful voice, who was very proud of her Cherokee heritage. She sang with a multitude of stars, including Roger Waters and Leon Russell, who wrote Delta Lady in her honor. But somehow it doesn't seem right hearing her without Kris by her side. Their romance was fire -- until it wasn't. I recently saw a video of Rita and Kris singing Kris's song Please Don't Tell Me How The Story Ends and it was beautiful -- but it was almost like they already knew how the story would end. She was clearly very, very young here.
You are correct in thinking she'd look great in braids. She has Native American (Cherokee) ancestry.
Her voice is so sultry seductive and smooth because she is a Mezzo soprano like Karen Carpenter and a few others ❤️❤️❤️
Boz Scaggs originally wrote the song for his 1976 album "Silk Degrees" as a B-side to his single "Lido Shuffle". That same year, Frankie Valli did a cover, followed by covers from Johnny Mathis and Rita Coolidge both in 1977. In Australia, Scagg's version was re-released as a single, this being the only instance of his version charting.
On a side note, I love this "live" version or Rita's cover and how instead of fading out, the ending is extended and she sings "All's forgotten now my love..." one last time. I have scoured UA-cam and there doesn't seem to be a studio recording of this version.
I love this song. She had one I loved even more called My Crew, which is a goodbye to her band. Check it out, you won't be disappointed
Such a talent! Gorgeous voice! I have heard her in years. So nice. 😊
This is a song written by Boz Skaggs and is on his album "Silk Degrees"...you should compare the two songs.
我太愛Boz Skaggs版了
We didn't have all the auto tune and stuff they have today. This was in the late 70's! The whole album that includes this song is great!!!!! Love Juice Newton too! Another great female artist we don't hear from anymore!!! That entire album is great!
I saw Rita Coolidge and Kris Kristofferson in concert during the 70's. They were great together. She even briefly appeared in the movie "A Star Is Born" that Kris did with Barbara Streisand.
It was called reverb. It was a slight delay on the audio. It gave an effect like stereo before stereo. I had one on my car radio back in the day ( that's my day ) stereo before stereo.
Great reaction. Always loved Rita. Need to do Boz Scaggs version of this
Yes I actually prefer his version
all of boz scaggs songs are good. Thanks for the reply@@fayesouthall6604
It never gets old
Absolutely beyond beautiful ❤️🔥
OMG...I haven't heard that in such a long time!!! Great selection to listen to.
Written by Boz Scaggs, of Lowdown fame ❤
great Choice of Music n Singer RC ❤️🔥🎇😊
I always loved Rita, thanks for a great song.
Hey, Britt. This is a 1977 big hit cover of a Boz Skaggs song from his classic Silk Degrees album. Nevertheless, Rita’s the definitive version with her silky voice and dreamy delivery creating one of the great romantic moments of the 70’s. You “owe it to the wind” to remember this one! If you liked this, try her incredibly catchy, “You”.
Written by the great Boz Scaggs. You should check out Rita and her then husband Kris Kristofferson singing Help Me Make It Thru The Night. Sheer perfection.
One of the singers in the Joe Cocker/Mad Dogs and Englishmen Rock and Roll Circus Concert Tour.
I listened to Rita Coolidge and Kris Kristofferson her husband and legendary country music singer. He also starred in the original movie “A Star is Born” with Barbara Streisand. Rita was total class.
Your other subs already stated some important facts about Rita & the song! All I can think of saying is that this song is very magical for me, and very nostalgic! I believe it came out in the late 1970's!
You're cool and fun to watch and listen to, but as another sub commented, it'd be nice if you could let the songs play out with not so many interruptions! I don't mean to criticize, but just letting you know we would appreciate that! Have a good one!
Remember when this came out and brings me back to my younger days. BTW I just listened to Dolly singing "Mary Did You Know". Also I am part of your Patty Family on Patreon
This lady experienced a ton of Rock history first hand.
She sang on "Delaney and Bonnie"s first album. (Britt you would like them if not reviewed them).
Then organized the choir for Mad Dogs and Englishmen
Not to mention living and working with Leon Russell.
Amazing musical life.
She actually altered rock history as well. Early on, like 1969 or so, she was romantically involved with Stephen Stills and then Graham Nash, which is one of the reasons for the initial breakup of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young in 1970. In addition, she was also involved with Joe Cocker for a time.
Beautiful voice.
This song was such a hit in the 70s that I got so tired of listening to it that I would turn the radio station when it came on. Rita had a beautiful voice, but anything can be over done. This is actually the first time I have enjoyed listening to this song in over 40 years. Something else about Rita you may not know. She was at one time married to none other than Mr. Kris Kristofferson. 🥰
As others have said...do the Boz Skaggs (original) version, I think you'd enjoy it, for different reasons. Rita Coolidge was "all that and a bag of chips" back in the day.
Beautiful voice and song
This song holds a special time for me, just starting high school and just discovering girls!
Rita's version of the bee gees song words is fantastic too ❤
Recently discovered your channel. Love your observations and you yourself have a musical gift that only God can give. Regarding the effect on Rita's vocal, I would bet that they have run her vocal thru a delay unit on a VERY short delay and blended it in to her undelayed vocal. Makes it almost sound like she is singing with herself. You hear delay units all the time in recordings. Most of the time the delay is set much longer and is perceived as an echo effect. Very short delays added back to a vocal can thicken up a thin vocal. There may also be a modulation effect like a flanger added in as well. Really cool sounding. I always loved this song. BTW, I'm a retired Audio Mixer.
Great follow ups for Rita Coolidge are "Higher and Higher" and "Words."
Am always here for you! Proud patreon!! 😊
Beautifully sang
It's a very emotional song. If I am correct the original idea from this song came from a man who's wife was dying. He gave it to Boz Scaggs who wrote the song then gave it to Coolidge. I think that's how it went.
I was camping a few months ago and one of our campers broke out her guitar and we all sang this song around the campfire.
É maravilhoso como as ondas.
1977
Love your work!
Cheers from Oz.
Met Rita in the 80s and she was sincerely sweet
I was able to see her perform a show at Knott's Berry Farm's "Good Time" theater; she was so Amazing! Her voice sounded just as beautiful and clear as listening to her albums! She was sweet and conversational with the audience in between songs.
Before singing one song she told us that she had gotten a call to sing the theme song from the newest Bond film "Octopussy". She was really busy, tied up with commitments at that time and said if it had been anything else she would have had to pass.. then she laughed and said "But when you get The call from James Bond you Answer it, lol!😉😄 And at that point she began to sing "All Time High"! She just seemed like Such a lovely person!😊💖
One of the best slow dance (belly rubbin') music songs. With your best girl(or guy) on a dance floor at the prom or high school dance.. Takes me back to high school
I suggested this on Patreon. She was super popular as seen her being selected for a James Bond song.
Rita is an underrated, classy lady of the '70s. Check out "Family Full of Soul," "Better Days," "I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight," "Nice Feelin’," "A Woman Left Lonely," and "My Crew."
Brit, you need to check out Rita and Kris Kristofferson. They were an item and had some great duets!
She was one of the "friends" in Delaney & Bonnie & Friends. You should check out "Never Ending Song of Love" or "Only You Know and I Know." That group had a wide web of people they influenced. In fact, Bonnie was the first white backup singers for Ike and Tina.
She was married to Kris Kristofferson!
I love the lyrics to this song.
Rita Coolidge is of course Cherokee so it wouldn't have been unusual for her to have braided hair. If you love her voice, you should really check out the band she was in called Walela. She was joined by Priscilla and her niece Laura Satterfield. They sing in Cherokee and English, and the Cherokee language is beautiful.
Thanks for sharing this, I want to look this up now.
All time high captivated her voice, a beautiful voice, Boz Skaggs does a great version
Boz wrote and originally performed it on Silk Degrees. Rita did a terrific cover.
She’s not dead
I’m sure that she will appreciate that you wish her to SOMEDAY rest in peace, however, she’s still with us. 😁
@@rickclark8657 Apologies Rick, I watched a dodgy site, thanks for letting me know.
Rita was also in the group Walela ... You should check them out ... ❤
Hi Britt. I hope you read this. I have a special request if you don't mind. The song is called i love you this much by jimmy wayne. Its a personal song of his and one of my all time favorites and i wanna dedicate it to every person whose father ran out on them. This is a healing song for them, so listen to the lyrics. Im fortunate enough to have a father. So if you dont mind dedicating the song to them, i would aprecciate it. Thank you and God Bless🙏
There MAY be some effects but her voice is actually that amazing.
Try Gladys Knight "Midnight Train to Georgia", or Bobby Womack "Harry Hippie" "Sweet Caroline" or The Floaters "Float On"
Her voice reminds me me of Ann Murray
Boz Scaggs authored this song. Check out his original version too.
we love that you love
That's all Rita voice
This song was written and originally sung by Boz Skaggs and co-written with David Foster as a song written for the movie "Urban Cowboy" in 1980 that literally had to be written over night because of a crunched time schedule. Not bad for a last minute attempt!
I believe you're thinking of the Boz Scaggs tune "Look What You've Done To Me."
@@RonaldCanfield-m2r I stand corrected, I think your correct. I must be getting old!
Rita was married to Kris Kristofferson, who I think you've reacted to before. She's part Native American, and I think the hair and cheekbones and love of jewelry are related to her heritage.
The sound is from a poor quality source There should be no echo. Star Parade was a German music show in the 70’s
👍
Check out her cover of Neil Young’s ‘I believe In You’ off her 1st album…
Rita has a sexy voice listen to "Higher and Higher"
You really need to do the original by Boz Scaggs. Seriously!!
Hey Britt…I get the same vibe you did! It’s the “feel” of the song! I connect this song w/ late ‘70’s Christmas (my parents were out shopping), my bros + sister were listening to music and I remember hearing it…I was 8 or 9 and whenever I hear it, I’m back in my living room w/ the red carpet and paint-chipped Santa ! Awesome tune, great reaction
Rita was first nation's, so she would have to be pretty calm.....if you understand
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
just listen
Kris and Rita......
She was married for a time to Kris Kristoffferson.
Blake Shelton Christmas song Time for me to come home.
It sounds like she's singing over her own track
She's lip synching, without lip synching
Give the lyrics, this probably wasn't the intent, but it comes across as a mother singing to a child who cannot sleep
She was married to Kris Kristofferson.
Yes, she was married to Kris Kristofferson,... but he treated her like shit, she divorced him and didn't ask for anything,
Boz Scaggs version far superior! Not even close
There was no such thing as autotune back then, but they could give your voice an echo.
This one can't wait for more than 5 seconds before she cuts in to comment. And she didn't even give the name of the song correctly. ha, ha,🤔
Var inte hon tillsamams med kris kristoferson contry sångaren
Okay, here we go ! I'm going to criticize the reaction ...
1st. - The name is "We're All Alone" NOT, we are alone, she knows this, she typed it in the title ?!
2nd.- And this is not specific to her, but she makes the same mistake as most all young reactors.
Attributing some sound effect to the voice in a live performance in the 1970's ?!
When one is reacting to a performance, you must see through the eyes of THAT TIME PERIOD !
The difference now is that enhancing or altering, through electronic means has become the norm.
So they ALL assume, it has always been done.
Here is the truth ... singers of the past HAD to have talent, if you did not you would soon be weeded out, or relegated to a quirky or a niche singer.
Today, there are singers with talent, but there are far to many that don't, and It has become increasingly difficult to tell them apart, because of electronics.
On a personal note: I love this song, and better than the Boz Skaggs version, Rita does a great job!
Not a patch on Boz version! You must be tone deaf
I love your comments, but, I'd like you to let a song play before you give your comments.
That gets pretty annoying at times! There's one reactor that will replay the video without interruption after he comments on it at first which is good!
For copyright reasons they are required to pause it on occasion. Otherwise they would technically need to pay royalties. It’s also why many alter the accompanying video.
Well, yeah, but Britt already alters the video and then she STILL interrupts a hundred times to weigh in on random minutia.
If this is The Britt Show, and I am expected to tune in to enjoy her ditzy take on life, then fine. That's why I watch. She's funny.
But if you're expecting a thoughtful analysis of
... Thoughtful analysis of the song, then you're in the wrong place.
More and more I'm convinced these reaction videos are just a way to monetize Boomer nostalgia. They here to monetize our lost youth. When have you ever heard Britt (or most other such hosts) really hate something, really criticize it? It's all just " Ooh, I like her teeth and hair."
On the other hand, nobody reacts to Rita Coolidge, so props to Britt because I love Rita Coolidge and her teeth.
Please not so much interruption.
Boz is so much better it isn’t funny
I don't know the person's name that reacting to this song but you are quite Annoying.
All Time High is really beautiful too
