you will not believe this, but it was around 1978, and I was 10 years old at that time. I use to listen to this song on my father's 'stereo', turning all the bass/treble (only one key to manage both) to the BASS position, to appreciate only the bass strings...
We are not all alone Lee. Thank you for being here reminding us such a nice bass line.
There is so much beauty in life, even these crazy times. With your warm heart and humanity you are the most beautiful human Lee. Thank you Sir
The production on Rita’s version is absolutely stellar. So cool to hear about it from one of the legends that was there!!
Rita's voice is so beautiful and calming. Her phrasing is effortless! She is truly a treasure dare I say a gift! Rita is one of my top 5 favorite female vocalists. She certainly has one of the kindest warmest voices ever. Know matter how stressful the day hearing her voice makes it better. There are many Great Bass players out there, yourself and Carol Kay are my 2 all time influential players. Thank you for the video.
What I enjoy, is realizing all those amazing records I grew up listening to on the radio...had you playing on so many of them.... So thank you.
Thank you Leland Sklar for being Leland Sklar. Your music has been the soundtrack of my life. What a joy to see and hear you play.
“Grotesque & vile” perfectly describes the monster, McConnell! Love Rita Coolidge! Thanks for sharing your insights and talents. God bless.🌹
How you can keep it together working with all the amazing, legendary artists, musicians and songwriters is beyond me! I love how you find the beauty within those you work with! Thanks for being such a humble, nice guy while such a exalted musician yourself!
Beautiful bass line. Classic song. Underrated singer. Great time to be alive in music.
These videos, as they relate to the history of music, belong in the Smithsonian. There is no one else taking the time to share the personal history of a life in Rock n Roll. Especially a person so prolific and masterful as Mr. Leland Sklar. Thank you Leland for this wonderful gift.
Kevin O'Rourke
Living Legend! I love him and his music.
The guitar solo in this song is absolute perfection.
Rita came to the air base in Korea where my friends I were working. We sat with her, her niece, and band at the big (VIP) table had a great time, and of course a great show. We lied and told security we were the roadies. We talked about everything from Mad Dogs to Kris Kristofferson to great bass players like Duck Dunn (sorry Lee). She was just a wonderful, genuine soul. I'll never forget it.
"
We're All Alone" by Boz Scaggs/Silk Degrees (Personel: David Paich, David Hungate, Jeff and Joe Porcaro i.e. Toto) Leland on the Rita version... Mind Blown
Boz always has the best musicians on his records and in concert. Check out David Northrup's drumming videos, filmed behind the kit ua-cam.com/video/Py0fCDHgvj4/v-deo.html
This is one of my all time favorite songs. The baseline almost plays itself with its circling, climbing and ebbing. It’s like J.S. Bach in that respect. Your golden ear and creativity are priceless. Peace Leland.
Leland is a top notch human being par none....love his output and skill as a musician and his kind words on these blogs!
Loved the live-stream, came on at 9:30 pm my time. Watched the whole show. Thank you to all of you.
Thank you, thank you for what you do! You are blessed. This is from an ol’ retired ICU nurse. Love all the old stories! Thanks
Trifecta: hearing you play one of my favorite bass lines, hearing you tell stories of Rita and the artists in the recording sessions, and seeing the bass with all of those signatures. Made my day!
Love that song, the turn into the chorus always hits me like a ton of bricks. Truth is truth, agreed. Mitch is as they say, "a creature of the Senate", but old senators die, like we all once to stand before the bar.
Vinny Calaiouta, what a legend. Love his work on Zappas album Joe's Garage
Frank's best work.
Leland was the bass player, and I loved this song from the first listening in 1977, when the album droped out, such a great Boz Scaggs composition, lovely lyrics and nice harmonics and the sweet voice of Rita, the gorgeous Rita Coolidge !!
My wife and I played the Kris & Rita album daily back in the day.
Still love it.
I just discovered this song today. I absolutely am drawn to the melody. Thanks for sharing.
Rita Coolidge was a bonafide goddess to me growing up in the 60s and 70s. Her name was all over so many album covers that you'd stare at as you listened to the record. Then, she emerged as an artist! Facebook is becoming a backwater of stupidity and partisan reflection of the powers that be in Washington. Take your exile as a badge of honor! Thanks for your channel! Stay safe!
Duncan Frere Washington??? I'm thinking marks name ends in Berg. now Don't be stupid .
I thought I was the only one who put Peggy Lee and Rita Coolidge on the same pedestal. Deeply personal admiration. Love your extensive use of slide notes on this tune.
I have been OBSESSED with this bassline for years and only just learned that you played it! This was tremendous, thank you.
Great to see how much you feel every song. So much music in your blood.
It is such a joy to watch you play and hear your stories.
It was so nice to hear Rita Coolidge again and your beautiful playing. I'm continually astonished to find what a large part of my life your music has touched. It's as if I spent my whole life with you and your cohort.
Thanks for the music Lee. I don't think I've really appreciated just how much of your work I had enjoyed over the years until here recently. It's amazing how much entertainment you've given us. And now we're getting a lot of the stories behind the music. SO appreciative am I of you leaving this here for the generations to come as an addendum to your legacy for my kids and grandkids to enjoy too.
Beautiful, this and Your Love lifts me Higher. Those were happy times as a teen, the music was better than at any other time
This song rolls back the years. You played a fabulous line to this that melts into the song so effortlessly. Oh where did the 70's go!
Beautiful, perfect for today! Snowed overnight. Sunshine 🌞 now. Thank you 😊
Just watched Memorial for Boulder Officer.
Life is truly a gift. Love to all of you. 😌💗
My favorite Boz song. I love how it feels like it runs around in circles while you play it. How awesome that you played on one of my favorite versions of a favorite song.
Thank you to all doctors nurses and everyone for what you do.
Rita & Crystal Gayle both . Oh my gosh yes. Beautiful voices.
30 Days In The Hole. Got to see Stevie Marriott in this small little club, actually it was more of a biker bar,
waayyy back in the mid 80's . What a voice . Peter is right. Everything that came out his mouth was golden.
Stevie and Peter were hammering some songs out in the UK , I think . Things started to click.
Peter invited him back to the US. Steve was going to go, but at the last minute backed out.
So sad. So very tragically sad.
Wow, the perfect Lee video! A sublime bass lesson on yet another classic song I didn't know you'd done, warm tributes that double as rock history (so much of why I come here is to be around your positivity and perpetual sense of gratitude), and, as always, a reminder to keep conscientious and connected with the gravity of where we are. Pretty rich offering... thank you!
I enjoyed the show! Standout for me was New York Minute. I like the funky rock you guys do, but my tastes run more toward those moody, atmospheric, ultra-melodic songs you guys and your LA session cronies did and do so amazingly. Great ensemble guitar group- New York Minute sounded huge.
Sound- the talk between songs could come up, and believe it or not, the bass :) Just a bit :)
Thank again for all you do, Lee!
It's amazing to hear so many songs I grew up with. I was born in '70, which would make me older than I thought it would.
Thank you for sharing these songs and stories.
EXELENTE.... GRAN BAJO GRANDÍSIMA CANCION SALUDOS DESDE MÉXICO...
One of my favorite songs. I love the drum fills at the end.
Marvellous inspired bass, you are the Santa to all drummers, wonderful. Thanks so much. Rita , what can I say ? Pipes of a Queen , never got the accolades this lady deserved . Maybes we can change this , eh? Peaceful of course. 🤘🇨🇦☘️
The live stream was awesome. Great musicians playing great music! Thank you.
Be safe, be well, Leland
(And everybody!!)
Was watching the concert yesterday from the Netherlands. It was 3.30 over here, but it was well worth it!
I left Facebook some time ago but I might go back just to watch you. I very much appreciated your comments on the vile, despicable person.
Me too. I don't do Facebook too so I think we miss that side of Lee. I'd welcome political commentary from him; what I've heard is astute and heartfelt.
What a pleasure to listen and watch you play Lee... Thank You...
Love the vids. FB is quickly moving into irrelevancy, if it's not already there. The music you made and were a part of will far outlive FB.
facebook is bleeding advertisers and servers willing to move their content; I have left facebook as my protest to their business model.
Have an account on FB but I'm out of it. It's useless for me for a couple of years ago
I dumped Facebook over a year ago have not missed it at all.
@@gabriel_mendez Welcome! I've been off for 5 years.
Mr. Potz I closed down my Facebook account about a year ago. Best decision I’ve made in a long time. Interesting though it’s almost like quitting smoking. Much more difficult than I thought but after a while you wonder why you ever bothered with it in the first place. Just like quitting smoking you feel much better afterwards.
I'm not sure how UA-cam came to recommend your channel to me, but I'm glad it did - it was a happy discovery. I'm enjoying your stories, information and warm personality very much in these rather bleak times.
And another classic from the Legend himself! - You never cease to amaze me.
Loved the live webcast last night. Have a fantastic weekend.
Thank you Leland. Rita Coolidge is wonderful.
Thanks Leland, be well and stay safe. You are a safe harbor in these storm filled days
I knew this songs a child in the '70's as I had an older brother, an older sister and an AM/FM radio. However, this really became prevalent in my life when I was a 16 year old kid in 'love' for the first time and had my first real experience with a girl. As we simply lied together, this song came on in the background on her radio. It was perfect (even then I knew this was a moment) and still alternately makes me smile and tear up whenever I think of it. I'm 50 now, but g-damn, that memory remains so very powerful. And this song always takes me back to it.
Hi Lee. Thanks for the wonderful show last night. Thanks for playing Rita too. What a voice.
Always loved Rita. If my memory serves me correctly, Rita Coolidge and Jim Gordon were an item back in the day. In fact, it’s been said that that iconic piano part that Jim plays a the end of Layla closely resembles a Rita Coolidge song called, “Time,”of which she was uncredited.
It is widely accepted that Jim Gordon stole the coda from Rita. It remains one of the great injustices in the music industry. Rita had decided to move on and not sue for credit. Much of this was written about in Rita's memoir "Delta Lady".
Michael Bergman thank you for that clarification. Follow this link for an interview with Rita where she gives us her first person perspective:

How uplifting in this current moment!...
Backtracking to see all you did with the amazing Rita. Oh, and if you get tired of that Yamaha… 🤩WOWSER!
Hi Mr. Lee. You seem to have born into a time that allowed you, with great musicianship, and sensibility, to have played on some of the greatest stuff on the radio dial! Very lush and polished production - reminded me of Watermark. Thanks for the upload. God Bless peoples.
the opening notes, instantly crushed my heart down so hard the tears began to flow.
Thank You So much for sharing your time and Times. Rita Coolidge >>CLICK
I love this song so much. 🥰
Thank you.
That Bass and that song are both beautiful!
Stunning, Rita had such a beautiful voice....and that bass player chap isn’t bad either...
Lee, you constantly astonish with your vast repertoire and the ease with which you can summons up masterclass after masterclass. Loved the concert, it was huge fun and great music...a cover band that only does originals..brilliant. Thank you again!
You, sir, are brilliant. I played it almost exactly the same until that bridge--then you totally smoked me. Lol. Love your sharing and communication.
that bridge indeed🙌
I don't do Facebook - I don't have the impulse control required for that platform. Thanks for still being here on UA-cam. Your work here is a joy to behold, and to listen to.
EXCELLENT BASS PLAYING WITH VERY BEAUTIFUL SONG, I REMEMBER THIS WELL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Through Lee‘s quarantine videos I got to know so many new artists who I‘ve never heard before, that‘s amazing. Thank you so much! And it‘s incredible on how many songs Lee has played the bass and how many great musicians he has worked with.
Leland, I just love how you present yourself! Well Spoken , Entertaining , Compasionate! Your fans pick up on that and admire you for it! Keep doing what you do! 👍
I envy you for having the opportunity to work with Rita Coolidge. You're absolutely right about McConnell.
What an absolutely beautiful bass line.
Gracias profesor este tema es una belleza Bendiciones y gracias por compartir su excelente talento.
The perfect sound ! Thank you Leland.
Rita absolutely amazing from her beginnings with Leon Russell and the shelter people on in the marrying Kris Kristofferson and then having a nice little solo career for herself.
I love watching those Leon Russell early years with the shelter people when they're rocking out and there she is.
the wonders of UA-cam.
Just brilliant Mr. Sklar, as was that bitchen’ gig last night. I’m definitely hoping to see you cats play live ... with me in the room. I’m an old school player and one can always tell when the kids are having fun - the Immediate Family were rockin’ it and I was having fun. Getting to watch the gig again is a special treat. Thanks loads.
Oh yeah, screw Facebook and that total pile of human feces Moscow Mitch. Truth IS truth.
Thanks Lee!
My wife sang along ...
Made me enjoy it even more !
We Loved it!
Soooo happy you're honoring Rita Coolidge on your channel here. Been a fan of hers since I first heard her voice over the airwaves. Saw her & Kris in concert years ago at the Concord Pavillion and was able to take amazing photos of them, that I still have and treasure. One of my favorite duets with Rita & Kris was "I'll Be Your Baby Tonight" performed at FarmAid here on UA-cam. The song was written by Dylan. Her book Delta Lady is a really good and eye-opening read.
Nice song today. She can sure sing. Great concert last night! Thank you so much for doing that. You guys worked your rears off. Tech was off but fantastic you can redo it for future viewing. Thanks again for your hard work and dedication to your craft and your many fans
One of the songs that can take me back to the 70.s listening to the fm radio on my clock radio in the childhood home. Amazing how that works.
Right on about McConnell!!!
gosh, I love this song.
I love this version as well as the Boz Scaggs/Toto version. Goosebumps!
Hi Lee - By a way of thanks for all your great casts on this site, I've just posted this question on my Facebook page: 'What could've happened in Mitch McConnell's life to make him such a grotesque and vile creature?' Like yourself, I can say that I'm 'involved' in campaigning a thing or two. I actually agree with you about McConnell as I try to follow your country's politics as well as my own, in the UK. Kind regards, Chris.
Well done Chris.
Chris Thompson I’ll be writing this same phrase and asking folks to copy, paste and share.
@@mitre1 Good call.
I'm not American either so I'm likely to not be fully informed on American politics but I would like to understand why the hatred?
The way I see it right now, for everything bad that can be said about the current administration, the Democrats are 10x worse. Right now the Democrats are the 21st century trogan horse of wokeness. God help us all throughout the West if they can't be pushed back.
If the l far-left's madness, the cancel culture, the race baiting, the race based affirmative action, the toxic identity politics, and all the rest of their bs spills over then we're doomed. It will be a disaster. Not the kind of world I want for my children.
Domestic terror and/or propaganda organisations such as BLM, Antifa and XR will be more empowered than ever under the Democrats. The rabble rousers on the far-left need to be stopped while they can be (assuming it's not too late already) Very frightening times.
That Lee would make such a hate filled comment on Facebook against a Republican, has (for me) detracted from the joy of listening to someone I had much admired, both as a person and as a performer. Now I feel conflicted.
Rita was one of the few singers that I could mimic back in the day...love her!!🧡
In the chorus, where you linger on the note at "calm the light" is so affective. That song has hooks and subtlety in perfect measure; the satisfaction Mr. Scaggs would have felt as it came to life must have been overwhelming.
I absolutely loved the great concert last night! Man, that Kunkel guy is a pretty good drummer.
You're absolutely right, truth is truth, unfortunately many of the so-called big boys don't like us knowing that too much because it challenges just who and what they are! Play on Lee, I love these clips!
That was great, it cheered me up in a sad way.
Around 1975,-76 when you played on JT’s Gorilla and In The Pocket, I learned a valuable lesson. It is truly all about the song. Sometimes you get to strut your stuff and sometimes you need to lay back, get in the pocket and play what the song needs to make it flow, make it work. I’m not a bass player, I play guitar, steel guitar and enough banjo and mandolin to get in trouble. Anyway, the lesson I learned from you, Larry Carlton and Little Feat has really helped me not only as a player but as a songwriter. I’m now doing a fair amount of work writing acoustic music for documentaries. Thanks, Lee, you have been and will remain one of my heroes!
The lyrics to this song are so well crafted and perfectly sung by Rita, your bass is the icing on the cake!
Had set my alarm clock. My wife asked, me, where you are going at 3:30 in the morning (Holland)!? Watch Immediate Family! Unfortunately could not play the video here. Had a beautiful sunrise! :)
Beautiful song and beautifully sung by the beautiful Rita Coolidge with a beautiful bass track. Leland I love your videos please keep them coming.
Man! This is stirring up some old ghosts for me.
Excellent gig yesterday. Up to three centuries of musical experience between you... Here's to the next hundred! ❤️🎩🌹🏆
Yep, Joe's Garage is my favorite Zappa album. Love it so much. No apologies from me, that album just rules!
It is and excellent question and it is disgusting how the new media discriminate and try to direct the discussion...
Whoa!!!!! Mel Torme ???? I don't believe that I've EVER heard a singer with a smoother voice than Mel. The "Velvet Fog" is one of the names that has followed him for years. Mel is from a different era than what I usually hear on your posts but, being 71 years old, he is right up my alley. To your audience, if you want to hear a truly remarkable vocalist, find a video of Mel. You might find him singing duets with a lot of very well known singers, but that does not mean he is the a "perrenial back-up guy" ... his is a unique sound and is one of the best out there. Lee, thanks for bringing his name up. So many musicians out there that many folks have not heard. Man, are they in for a treat !!!
What a treat these are to watch!
I LOVE that Song!. I had it by both Rita and the Writer, Boz Scaggs, and I LOVED BOTH versions! It's really cool to see you play it after listening to you play it for so many years! God Bless You!
Fantastic performance last night. Two guys did that same tune as Rita in the late Seventies and the harmonies were unbelievable. Anyone? You're right about MM. He's sending out some bad vibes and it's spilling into Canada here. Keep up the good work and reminiscing.
Just beautiful.
