after finding so many coins I went straight to searching for those midtone signals...I've found more loose change than anything else and if your not bored with that that's fine, but coins are what we call "evident targets" coins are fun dont get me wrong but if your only looking for the "evident targets" your missing out on the real stuff were looking for...jewelry!! Especially gold..silver will present itself like nothing else high conductive metal is after all hard to miss like copper, brass, bronze ect ect ect but gold is a low conductive material next to lead on the periodical table if I'm correct in thinking? Gold hides away from the detectorist in amongst the low to midtones bracket on any machine...ring pulls, pull tabs, foil, if your not digging the trash your not digging for gold, sure, sometimes you get sick and tired of digging up ring pull after ring pull but even here they're a good indicator of where people once congregated for whatever reason you can even learn to tell the age of a location by what type of ring pulls your digging up..to search an area fully you need to do these steps...1st concentrate on the evident targets clear out the coins and the trash methodically dont get exasperated or put off your doing it for a purpose..
2nd once your satisfied you've cleaned up the surface layers concentrate on the deeper fainter targets dig the iffy signals and the lower conductive metal groups change to a bigger coil if you have access to one and go slower than the quick coin shooting style your probably used to detecting like I know I was when I first started rushing around looking for the goodies instead of allowing the goodies to come to me..I think I'm right in saying everyone starts off like that so don't think I'm saying your doing things wrong your just learning the trade so to speak and that takes time not only to understand your preferred detector but any given circumstances or conditions that can often change day by day...so many variables in the hobby its unreal lol and so many different types of hunting like deep pasture, shallow ploughed, beach with all the minerals and interference that can send a machine haywire until you've learned how to set the machine up for those particular areas, parks and open areas like playing fields or schools the list goes on...I hate to think how many real good targets I've walked over and passed them up but since switching my style ive found gold on quite a few occasions lurking in those midtones and that in itself is confirmation I'm doing something right...this is just my opinion I'm not saying that you should follow this advice it's entirely up to you how you go about your own style of detecting I'm just.offering up a different way of looking at things 🙂👊

Just spent the weekend on Galveston Island. I dig everything for 2 days, final out started passing over VDI # 73 (beer cap) & dug everything else. Best hunt of the trip. Still had a few wrapped in gold foil slip through, but more change. Best (VDI) target was a large 2 ounce lead sinker. I like the Simplex+ in FW and parks/fields.

This is one of the most important things i've learned... GOLD IS ALL OVER THE PLACE.... I would say "common" gold the smaller stuff definitely in the low numbers but it can just read up anywhere man!! want the gold you gotta dig it all! That one time you decide to skip up that so called zinc penny because you think you know the machine too well it ends up being a chunky gold class ring... So many size shapes karats mixed metals ground conditions target masking... I'm digging it all hoping to one day find my first gold chain. I have found a gold ring, gold bracelet but no chain yet... eventually it will happen with enough optimism persistence knowledge and efficiency.... only a matter of time!!

Really appreciate this video. Always wondered about gold VDI readings and this was really helpful. I always dig good tones, no matter what the VDI says but now I’ll be rotating round the iffy tones as well to see if it could be something decent.

    ALLOYS vs. 24k
    are the cause
    of various readouts
    on superior detectors properly adjusted.
A study of the common alloys used in gold jewelry will profit the operator.

I haven't found gold yet but these VDIs are very similar to the lead nuggets I keep finding. Guess I'll have to keep digging those :)

Which one would you recomend for silver and gold detecting the Simplex + or equinox 800? Which ones more accurate
