The version Tommy Shaw performs in Cleveland with the youth orchestra is absolutely outstanding too. Miss the late 1970’s. I’m. 55 and grew up on Styx, Boston, Kansas and REO.

What an amazing time to grow up. We had such great bands. Styx,Boston, Journey , 38 Special, to name just a few. Great times. No cell phones, internet, 3 tv stations.
Seeing Tommy turned 70 this week, and I'm 62, this band and song just brings me back to rocking in my room listening to Grand Illusion on my Monkey Wards all in one stereo-phonic record player! Nothing better ❤
i listen to styx and i cry because they knew how to sing, play instruments, write music , and non of it was auto tuned or shitty rap or some DJ who pushes 1 button and let's the music play for him....THIS WAS TRUE ART!!!!!!!!
plenty of artists that do all of that..... tf you smoking? We have so many artists there's a bloat of artists its just a matter of finding ones you like. Also the one's that get attention are the one's with the connections.
Truly a golden era and we were grateful for those that respected pure musicianship. These types of bands gave me such a wonderful childhood. To see them nail it playing live was just the greatest feelings in the world. I’ve seen over 100 concerts from Blue Oyster Cult- Ozzy/Randy Rhodes- Megadeth-YES- STone Temple Pilots- Molly Hatchet- Fleetwood Mac- Iron Maiden - R.J. Dio - Rossington Collins- America- SoundGarden- Def Leppard- Tool- Joan Jett-Alice Cooper- J Geiles- ZZ Top- Foreigner- Judas Priest- Bad Company- Foghat and I could keep good g on and on. I haven’t seen a concert in 3 years but I’m m going to a 3 day rock festival in November. That may seem like a long way off but it’s fine with me as long as they don’t cancel. I really wanted to see Metallica which I finally will but the main band I’m going for is Lamb of God. The Lynyrd Skynyrd band will be on the bill. I’m not too big on a Skynyrd band that doesn’t have Ronnie and Allen but I just want to see Gary cause I don’t think he’ll be around too much longer. I’ve never seen Styx but I’ve always loved them! What a killer band especially in their prime! Thank you God for Rock and Metal 🇺🇸👍🏻🇺🇸❤️
Because you don't like a kind of music doesn't make it shitty. Different kinds of art with entirely different skill sets but both art. Just like a painter and a photographer both create art....
Styx, in my opinion, has got to be one of the best rock bands of all time. Remember, that is "my" opinion. I was a teenager when they came on the scene. I liked their music secretly because I was a new Christian. Therefore any music like this was evil. That was my opinion then. Styx sang about real issues that effect the lives of real people. There are few bands today who tell it like it is.
I've seen styx several times and got married to Laura lou with our wedding song in 1978! Lorelei were still married 43 years later thanks for the memories!
Ha ha ha!!! Me too...secular music is evil? The church music is dead! I gave my Chronicles Rush set to my neighbor case I was brainwashed that it was evil? I wanted it back & a friend stole it
Especially when all the music in the last 25 years is mostly crap! These were the good ole days when musicians had to earn it through practice. I personally loved growing up in the 70’s and 80’s. The music from 50’s-90’s is second to none!
Practice plus talent is the way to success in anything in life. Find your talent, and place in life, and go for it. No matter what that might be. Bless you. I'm rooting for you dear.
I am 22 and my dad played ALL of this music when he would take me to preschool and I remember hearing all of the REAL music like this... So shameful that it doesn't work like this nowadays.
Styx was my first concert... I was about 12 years old. My Dad & stepmom took me, my brother (who was 11), & my sister (who was 5). We stayed in the same hotel as the guys, and got to meet Dennis & JY... I had a huge crush on Tommy back then (I'm 25 now), and was highly disappointed I didn't get to meet him, too. Nice guys. And I have to say, although Dennis wasn't Styx, he was such a HUGE part of it that Styx just isnt the same for me anymore. I still listen to older Styx opposed to newer styx.
1979. Oakland Coliseum. Walking back to the car after a great Styx show, I walked past JY in the parking lot, my friends were driving away without me. I had no chance to say hello.
They've been one of my favorite bands for 40+ years.. their music never gets old and they perform better now than ever before.. the music of Styz will never fade away..

I must agree. Those are not the most complex polyrhythms or drum parts, but you can't be off by a split second and he is right on time like an absolute machine!!
It must be fun to have that much talent and to play such excellent music so effortlessly and enjoy life and living in such a way while spreading joy and happiness to so many people. I salute you Styx for being such a gift to us all.
Growing up with this wonderful music is such a great part of my life...I had college buddies from Chicago, who used to have the old Styx play at local Friday night dances.
Back in the seventies I used to play in a band that only did Styx, Kansas and Queen and MAN! Challenging but you really appreciate those songs when you learn and perform them!!!!
I played in a band in the early 80's that did the same thing & I do to this day --- just can't beat the musicianship of that music. Add Yes, Foreigner, Journey, Genesis & Boston to the mix & it's a 70's Freedom Rock album as well as a killer playlist.
BEST STYX SONG EVER!! Love the part starting at 2:45 w/JY and Chuck standing shoulder to shoulder and smiling. It's obvious how happy they were to be playing together again after Chuck having to be out w/his illness.
No matter what issues the lead singers had over the years I love them then and I love them now and I will never stop loving them no matter what and I’m 67 years old now
I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Shaw, Lawrence on keyboards and the other guys a few moths back. My old friends brother once was a guitarist but had a stroke from alcoholism. They were the kindest souls, taking my friends hand, talking to him. We had backstage passes but they came out and spent about an hour with our group of 6 people. Thank you STYX and TOMMY.
I'm an old guy too. You just have to admire the brilliance in their work. Love them just like I love Mozart. (All people are gifted and inspired ... it's great to see their gifts discovered and nurtured.) Gotta love You Tube for making them available to us as well.
I remember when I was in 1983 I was 12 and I was still living out in San Diego went to Jack Murphy stadium we saw sticks what a great experience it was I'm a big fan of Tommy Shaw and on UA-cam on my phone I was watching as for new approaches a video of Daryl Hall at Daryl's house with the guess was Tommy Shaw and they jammed together it was like it was like back in the eighties when I saw them in concert back in 83 and that's a concert that I will never forget I really kick made your ass
Just watched them in Toronto this week. May not be all the original group but wow are they still awesome. This song let me make it through my teenage years and gives me goosebumps each time i hear it.
Back in the day, I lived thru this time, we appreciated getting lost in music, forgetting it all. Styx, Reo, April Wine, Rush, Pink Floyd, so many more. I want to go back and do it again
When I was twenty this piece entered my mind and swirled around like an unworldly calliope. The twelve string sweetly serenades with meditative strumming. Good vocals harmonize and the slippery-slide synth teases and enchants over rolling drums. Anthem-like singing leads to the energetic ending, with the keyboards doing aural gymnastics. Kind of warbling-like.
Saw them for the first time at the Los Angeles form back in the 70s. Still my favorite band at 62 years old. We played come sail away at our high school graduation Corona del mar class of 79. My daughter bought me tickets for Christmas and is taking me to Styx at the Venetian in two weeks. Bucket list.👍
