How to Fix ANY Fridge Water Line

  • My fridge destroyed my hardwood floors and there aren't any replacement parts on the market anymore. Therefore I created my own DIY fix. NO TOOLS NEEDED!
By using these water line adapters, I was able to quickly cut out the broken part of my waterline and replace it with a new section of tubing.
Although my video shows me removing my water line, you actually do not need to do that with this method. I removed mine because I thought I could buy a whole new setup but like I said, they don't sell them anymore.

My water line broke and I called for repairman but he didn't call back. I searched for videos to help fix my problem and came across yours. It cost me just over $7 for the Shark Bite Quick Connect coupling from Lowe's. Thanks for the video.
The repairman called after the fix. I told him what I did; he congratulated me and said he would have done the same thing

Thank you for sharing. I was able to repair my fridge in few minutes after watching your clip. This is my story. After replacing the water filter on my LG refrigerator lg model # lsc23924st, one of the water lines into the fridge broke! I drove to Home Depot and picked a 5/16" union coupling. I dispensed 3 gallons of water to clean the filter, and there was no leak.

Awesome job! Totally impressed that you were able to find a work around for the problem. Kudos for crawling under the house and determining where the problem was. You saved a ton of money over hiring a plumber to troubleshoot and repair!!!

Previous owner of my property had a pipe installed at the wall for piped fridge water. it has a 20mm metal pipe. the LG fridge I bought has a 10mm pipe with a 10mm to 30mm pipe adaptor... I looked and cannot find a 20mm to 10mm adaptor so I have to use the LG 30 to 10 mm then a 20 to 30mm adaptor... its super crazy LG didn't bother to just include different adaptors.

Yea, I did the exact same thing for a 2011 Samsung fridge and at first it worked great. However, pin hole leaks kept creeping up in other areas of the water line hose. I fixed it like this with similar parts. I even put some water sensor alarms behind the fridge to detect water leakage. At first, they worked great as I had 2 more leaks & alarms went off. I was then able to shut off water early enough and repair as needed. However, after the 4th leak occurred under the fridge and didn't reach the sensors, I had to totally turn the water line off from the wall & keep it off as it was causing too many headaches. Not to mention more damage occurring in my finished basement.
A great method & solution as long as other leaks don't turn up. This is also probably due to a 12+ yr old fridge. Luckily, I have a another (Kenmore) ice making fridge in basement that works great so for now we are simply bringing ice up to the kitchen Samsung fridge cause the dispenser still works perfectly fine. I am currently researching trying to replace ALL the water lines in my Samsung fridge. Could be tricky and a hassle. Another easy option is a counter ice maker instead. Will see.

It would have made sense for you to just remove a 6 inch segment of the old hose, joining the old hose pieces together... forget about the new hose entirely and only create one coupling.

I don't know what you guys are talking about... he could have done without that 6 inch blue segment and gotten the job done with only one coupling. Most new refrigerators that were made with water they will have a certain amount already called up in between protective cover in the bottom if you pull your bottom drawers out and you have clear protective cover you will be able to see the hose is about four feet in a circle you won't have to buy any new you just use what's there already stored in your refrigerator some are not see-through you have to take this protective cover off and there you'll see your extra water line it is rolled up and it has zip tie to keep it coiled up and out of the way always check before you go buy new hose like this guy did now he don't have any other use for the rest of that unless he's going to make him a water bath for the bird's.,.. yes I know a guy who did that he KNEW HE had water tube in frig so he did this an used the same connecters as this guy ... He had to surprise his wife and he did alright he hatton mopped up the water 💦 you got to have a little water when you disconnect the pipe he had it all put back he did not push the refrigerator back in place she come home from work water and her newly mop floor refrigerator out all kind of group spilt in the refrigerator because he's trying to pull it and now she had to clean her refrigerator out it was more trouble for him that the birdbath was worth to her so always use common sense if you're going to do something clean your mess up inside and outside if you really want to surprise her remark her freshly mopped and waxed floors

  • @robertl1244
    @robertl1244 Місяць тому

LOL.. why would you replace one linear foot of tubing? Just cut out that foot of tubing and join up the parts that are still good! You wasted money buying tubing if that's all you did. Also, I just bought a connection with 5/16" - 1/4", made by John Guest, but doesn't require a little locking ring to keep it in. Home depot had it for $10.00 Canadian instead of paying for a whirlpool part $34.00+. Another place wanted $57.00 and had to order it.
I read, you should change your tubing throughout the water system in your fridge water dispenser and freezer ice cube maker every 3-5 years. No way Im doing that! LOL... They recommend getting it cleaned out with vinegar also... by someone who knows how! I have no idea how they would pump vinegar through the system. (to clear out Mold)
The reason for changing the tubing is that the tubing dries out and cracks... so, you are probably in for some more cracks! Unless you backed your fridge up and pinched the tube??? I tape my tubing up onto the back of the fridge, up off the floor!
I also had slow water from my dispenser. Found out over the last week of searching videos that it is actually because the builders of our house, Minto, put in a saddle valve on the water pipe to run a tube from, to the fridge... the water can't get through fast enough to dispense the water well. We thought it was normal...for 23 years.. LOL... just figured it out now! It was taking 45 seconds to fill a 12 ounce glass... OMG... Then I googled how long it should take and it should take about 8-10 seconds. Wayyyy faster! So, gonna change that ... maybe I'll make a video and post it! Maybe...
    Hope this helps others,
    Cheers..
