It's just practice tbh, yeah for sure you're probably on a bike that's no ideal for a your first track bike, but that's not the deciding factor. Tyres, how worn were they, did you check pressure hot and cold in warmers. My advice, just keep at it, get proper rubber, s22s etc, get some stomp grips, get some instruction at your next day, take advantage of this free help bud. Your body position isn't absolutely terrible, you're just doing what most people do at the start, your a little crossed on the rights, you seems to slide your arse on the seat rather than lift it, this can and will unsettle the bike. Just basics that haven't become basics yet for you because it's still new, but it will. I'm sure drifting has been a learning process, so will trackdays. Keep going 💪🏻
Hey, looks like you know how to ride! I will definitely be going for a new set of tyres when I do my next bike track day, these s20 tyres were already worn when I bought them and I've now done 4 track days on them so they have done their time lol. I've only had tyre warmers I borrowed for that Cadwell day and none of the other days so also need to invest in some and a genny! I 100% need some tuition so will try my best to grab an instructor the next one I go to, as Brian said in the other comment I also would like to get a basic suspension set up as not sure if I have it right at the moment. Definitely take it all on board thanks a lot for the advise 👍
I can not really see what you are doing but I think I see 2 things you can improve. 1) In a big braking zone you take a body position at the start of the braking zone. You have to push youre outside knee into the tank and youre inside knee you can push outwards early. You seem to be making too much body position adjustment while tipping the bike in and also mid corner. 2) Is related to 1. In a chicane or fast direction change be sure to not sit on the seat. Really stand on the pegs. If you move body position on the seat you unsettle the suspension and bike. I cant see youre feet or hands but be sure ride on the ball of the foot and not the heel. The crash seems to be a rain thing. If you stand more on the peggs you can catch it better. Supercorsa is very difficult tyre for a lott of people. Do not take a tyre with to much grip when you do not have the experience. It is better to learn and anticipate the front or rear sliding with a lesser tyre.
Thanks, sorry for slow reply, yep always ride balls of the feet on the pegs but ye my body position definitely needs some improving. Ye that's why I did decided to keep with the Bridgestone road tyres to start with as worried as wouldn't keep heat in other racier tyres. I think rain did play a factor and my throttle control not being smooth and open through the corner unsettled it. Cheers
Keep at it mate, get some proper track tyres on there and you'll soon make good progress. I was where you are a couple of years ago, crashed my road bike at Oulton so bought a track bike and devoured every youtube tutorial in existence. You seem very analytical and self-examining like me, so I've no doubt you'll make really fast progress!
Hi Mark, thanks 👍 yes I will keep at it, may take a back seat until next year but should be raring to go, give me time to absorb as much information as I can! I see you don't hang about on track days, will take a look at a few of your videos when I get 5 mins. I am very glad I bought a separate bike for the track days if I dropped my clean 954 road bike I wouldn't have been so relaxed!
@@dan_the_drifter321 yep, mine was a mint SP1 that I stuffed at Druids at Oulton Park 😫 I was not happy! Hopefully I'll add a few more vids to my channel over the next couple of months, my first proper track days of the year at cadwell, donington and oulton. Steady away! Do you drift at 3 sisters?
@@marksmith7737 Aww that's a shame to crash the sp1 but these things happen, live and learn! Ye I am up at 3 sisters the 10th of October for a drift competition called RDC or retro drift challenge. Are you local to there?
@@dan_the_drifter321 I was gutted but soon had it fixed and sold to fund the track bike! @@marksmith7737 I bet, if it led you to getting a track bike then not all bad! Three sisters would be fun on a supermoto I reckon! Ye feel free to come say hello if you see me there, always up for a chat unless i'm 2 seconds away from going out to qualify or something 😂
Hi Dan great vid enjoyed watching this. your lower body position is not bad. Your upper body position needs to be a bit lower to help centre of gravity to balance the bike but the thing that took you off is how you apply the throttle. If you watch all of your track clips and listen to when you roll on the throttle you do so mid corner at maximum lean. If you then look at your last session that changed. Where you fell you had just opened the throttle and it pushed the front. It would help you to start cracking the throttle before the apex or make it through the bend carrying more speed and then apply throttle as you pick the bike up. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the advise Rob, hopefully see you soon and you can show me the ways. Ye I don't think I've got the throttle application quite right or as smooth as I should, it will come hopefully 👍
@@dan_the_drifter321 You should extend your arms and head as closely to the tarmac as possible. Also remember smooth is fast and you really shouldn't push it in the wet unless you have racing wet tires.
@@FlameHazeist Ye I have actually been practising on my road bike when out for a long ride, been concentrating on moving my head and arms towards the mirrors and is becoming a slightly more natural feeling (obviously not as lent over but you get the idea) 👍 ye next time if it starts to rain or even feels damp I will be taking it steady. @@ChasingTenths Yes will do, Rob Menzies did actually mention the front camera to me before this track day but the mount I have is on the mudguard and my swan neck stand kept catching it! Thanks for your enthusiasm mate, be ace to get to a day together sometime next year, sure we would have a laugh 👍
I can explain all of it. You're not too far off. I've been here before. Start with track day tires, look up the hot cold pressure, buy off brand tire warmers for 175.00, heat and check pressure. Go around the track three times, heat up the suspension oil, come in and have the track suspension tech set your SAG. CRITICAL. Once this is done you have a baseline. Now you can experiment with body position, etc knowing that it's you, not the bike. Proper fork travel makes all the difference. Figuring out if the fork springs are sprung to your weight is CRITICAL to starting off right. Don't waste time noodling it.
Thanks Brian, didn't mean any offence on my other video :) yes I definitely want to try a set of supercorsa tyres next and ye warmers and a genny to run them is on the list however I'm not sure if I want to get a smaller cc like an sv650 minitwin or r6 or similar. Didnt want to shell out too much on the blade if thats the case. I think you are correct about the suspension set up but again I will spend out if I decide to keep it. See what I happens next year I guess.
