Awesome. I am at the point of adding oil pressure gauges to both my spiders. Both have fogged glass inside, and I’ve been wondering how to get the bezels off. There is a port doubler, that attaches to the oil filter housing, available and pressure transducer as well. That way, the dash will have 2 functional oil pressure lights!
Loving this channel. I picked up a 1981 that was being parted out with a 1976. I was going to buy a different car and was asking about the cost of the pieces I needed, then I asked how much for the whole thing. The parts would have been $400, but he told me $300 for the entire car. He had already sold the 81 convertible top, so he sold me the '76 complete frame. He was so happy to get rid of the car he let me pick parts off the 76'. So I trailered everything home. The top was really ugly and would need to be totally refurbished. I derusted, cleaned up the bolts and replaced the canvass with an appropriate '76. I expected to redo the clamp locations, but when I attached it to the car; the back edge would not pull down to the body. It sit at lease 2" above the body. Is there anything I need to change other than the 76 header to make this fit?
Great video! I have a 1977 Spider and am replacing the interior panels (instrument cluster, glove box cover, hazard light seat belt middle panel, and gear shift bezel) with oak wood with a mahogany stain because it just looks so damned cool, and the original plastic looking walnut panel is REALLY ugly. I appreciate your help because having my Spider is like being married to a supermodel...with Legionnaire's disease: she's really beautiful, but every system takes turns in breaking down 😄🙄
It’s a relationship of love at least!
Always enjoy your videos. You save me a bunch of time trying to figure out things on my own ! If you are switching speedometers, is there a way to "test" a unit before installing it ? Want to switch out my original 85 mph unit for a 140 mph unit on my 81 turbo spider. Thanks !!
Thank you for supporting me!! So glad I can help. To test a new speedo, you can attached the speedo cable and put a drill on the cable. If you put the drill in reverse, it should reach 55mph or so. The cable is square, so the drill can grip it. Just make sure the drill is in reverse!
FYI, I bought a used 140 speedo on ebay from vender in California. Mine had a broken odometer. They are very simple devices. I now have a working unit however the trip odometer and mile odometer vary by 5 mile over 200 total miles I don't know which is more accurate :)
I see you removed dash with windshield off is that necessary or just what happened for you. When I got my 124 it had a new cap not secured properly, and it hinders opening the glove box a bit. Car lot put it on for a sale, will it be easier to take off windshield?, Or remove dash? Or do I have to do both?
Another great video. Do you know if the dash covers you mentioned are available for the 850? I was thinking of sending mine out but those look pretty good.
I haven’t seen one for an 850, but you could wrap it like I did mine in my custom dash videos.
Great video, you make me almost mechanical !!!
do you have a video for folding top removal?
Glad you like them!
I do not have that yet, but that will definitely be an upcoming topic as we get closer to interior work (more than the dash that is)
@@GarageTimeTV if you post it it will be useful for me, I will start work in a few months, I hope!!!
@@andreazuccotti6280 I’ll do my best!
Great video. Can you show how you remove the windshield. It would be great to have as I need to replace the glass. How can I view that?
I can definitely do a video on that! I don’t have one yet, but I can make one if it’ll help you out!
@@GarageTimeTV Thank you that is much appreciated
Where did you source the new dashboard. I have been sourcing parts from Vicksauto and all they have for my 1979 Fiat 124 Spider are inserts.
I custom made my dash. So I used my old pieces to make new ones. I have a two part video series on that on my playlist. Check it out!
I have a Fiat Dino dashboard but cannot find a ‘cap’ for it. What’s the name of the company you bought your 124 dash cap from? Thanks!
I got mine from Vick Autosports
what did you do to disconnect the odometer wire that goes from a connector to the gage?
did you cut it? any trick to pulling the terminal from the connector?
Do you mean the trip meter or the speedometer cable?
odometer (total vehicle miles)
there’s an electrical wire that goes from the’locked’ back of the speedo to a connector waaaay deep behind in the dash.
-I can’t see how to remove the terminal in order to get the dash free of the vehicle. Your video, while overall ‘10/10’ has one shot showing that wire still passing from gage through dash to a view of the dash free of the car. How’d you do that?!
@@peterrosinski1903 is it the yellow wire with the red tracer?
yes!
@@peterrosinski1903 I ended up cutting it and putting a spade connector on it. Much easier to deal with rather than chasing it down and having to pull it all the way through
Do you HAVE to have the windshield out - does anyone know?
You do not need the windshield out. Mine just happened to be out at the time I did this.
I have an '81 124 2000. It runs very rich. Where should I start my investigation?
Well I’d start with my O2 sensor and see if that is burned up. That tells the computer how the engine is running. I’d also make sure my mixture screws on the plenum are set correctly.
First look for air leaks and more air leaks and more air leaks leading to the throttle. Check the coolant sensor and connector at the hose tee, it may be telling the computer the engine is cold. The gage read from two sensors in the head.
Is this a time warp?
Am I confusing it with another car?
@@carlseiler6441 same car! I just had this video ready. I forgot I had it. I skipped it on accident. So here it is! Lol
According to the federal HESCHLAVVO law, it is already forbidden in Switzerland to drive combustion engines on mountain passes from 2025. In France, the SCHLABOUBVE regulates that fossil vehicles that produce fine dust are prohibited in all cities from 2025. The BABVVO in Germany will bann exhaust gas pollution from 2027 and that is what will happen in entire EU also bann of all tires and brakes because of fine dust!!!
