Hi Lyn! It's a pity how they ruined this little cactus! It's nice of you to have rescued it...great job you did! At least now it is doing well! Wonderful!!! Enjoy your evening and weekend Lyn and Hans! Lots of love sent your way!
I was so happy to have saved this cactus, and it is growing so well now, the Mexican hat had been super glued onto the top of the cactus, and because the top of the cactus is the growing point, this poor cactus would have been a gonner long term if I hadn't rescued it, I can't understand why they do this to plants as it looks so awful, thanks so much Sylvia for your wonderful comments and support and for watching, and Hans and I are sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER to Malta for an awesome afternoon XXXX
Love your cactus rescue!! What is wrong with people wanting to dress a plant up like that....sheesh! Please keep us updated on your new cactus progress:)
Lori Edwards Thank you so much Lori for watching Sis :-) I know it is craziness that the people who do this actually think it looks nice, there is nothing nicer than Mother Nature for creating flowers and beauty :-) I could understand it if they did it to plastic plants for fun but to real plants, its madness :-) Sending you tons of love and flowers from right across the pond for a wonderful Sunday and week ahead XXXXX
Well done Lyn, good on you for making the effort and making people more aware of this horrible degrading fad. I hope it makes it and please keep us posted. Fingers crossed 👍

I too rescue cacti! Fortunately I haven't seen any horribly abused cacti like this for quite a while. One thing though, that knife you used to cut the hat off looked rather blunt and the blade was a bit on the thick side. Razor blades and scalpels are best - although, that said, I have a very nice Japanese vegetable knife that does the job very well too. This way I can successfully graft with my Trichocereus specimens, for example. Much love from Germany, keep up the good work!

You are so good to have gone on this mission! The poor cactus, all dressed up in silliness. You know, for some reason I always feel more protective towards cacti than any other plants, which doesn't really make sense as they can protect themselves more, with their spikes. Anyway, well done! It was interesting to learn about the sulphur power too.
The Dancing Snail Thanks so much Carol for your wonderful comment Sis :-) I know what you mean about feeling more protective towards cacti haha! I am the same even though they have their own 'armour plating' with their spines :-) Thanks so much for watching and have a FANTASTIC Sunday and week ahead XXXX

exciting!! Nice done, its really brutal how they destroy them and make them look totaly silly, I found them here in a shop pinned full of (ugly) fake flowers, over 20 in one cactus, the poor thing had not much courage left , Respect from Belgium´s coming your way! peace´n´love

Lyn, I love your channel so much! I have a north facing window and my south facing window is full! Are there any plants I can put in the north window? Also I would love if you tought us how to make a desert cactus flower?!
Peter Mc Guinness Thank you so much Peter for watching :-) and so happy you enjoy the channel, so sorry for only just getting back now, I have been offline for a few days so just catching up now :-) You can keep Haworthia's and Sanseveria's in north facing windows, and also some of the aloes, although the Aloes won't flower in a north window but they can still live happily in a bright but sunless spot, some of the epiphytic cacti such a s Schlumbergera and Rhipsalis also will live happily in north windows. If you wanted to grow more of the sun loving plants in a north window what you could also do is install a special plant grow light bulb over the top of the window, these grow lamps have the light uv requirements like the sun and you can time them to come on for a few hours a day e.g 12 hours. I have found a great help with getting mine to flower is by watering them with a half strength tomato feed during the spring and summer, and letting the desert cacti go dormant and dry over the winter months, this encourages flowering in the Spring :-) Hope this helps, Sending you tons of love and happy growing for a fantastic week XXXX
I live in Los Angeles and just im starting to collecting these cacti from Lowe's..., my first one was a small golden ball cactus which had a fake rubber flower on top, i left it under the sun for a while and the glue melted enough so that i could easily pull it off without any struggle. Later i did the same with other small cacti that i bought with fake flowers, and it was easier to take off each time 🌞🌸🌵
Well done on removing the fake flowers on your golden ball cactus and your other cacti, and thats a fantastic tip with letting the heat of the sun melt the glue, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a super Saturday XXXX
That poor cactus. Are they usually so soft or was that one softer than usual? It looked rather sickly once you took all that stuff off. Sometimes I want to purchase plants because they're in bad condition and need some special attention to bounce back. There are some lithops at the plant store I go to that are in rough shape. They look awfully dry and damaged. No one seems to want to buy them because who wants to buy damaged pants? I am considering purchasing them out of pity next time I go if they are still there.
Skittish Elf Thanks so much for watching :-) its awful that they do this to healthy plants, this one was softer than usual as it was very dehydrated, as soon as it settles into its new pot I will give it a good drink and it will fill out again :-) I am the same with wanting to buy the 'poorly' plants haha! i usually find myself at the 50cent reduced poorly section in the garden centres haha! and have saved a few in the past that are flourishing today :-) if you feel like saving the Lithops you could certainly have a go and it will be a fun challenge to save them :-) Sending you tons of love and happiness for a FANTASTIC week ahead XXXX

I might have sawed the hat vertically with just a hack saw blade and then split the hat open and then dealt with the glue separately. Who knows if it would have worked though.
William Mosley Thanks so much for watching William :-) We also thought that would have worked as we tried to cut through the hat tip with a hacksaw blade to determine the thickness of the plastic but the whole hat was one piece of thick solid plastic and the glue was completely covering the tip so rather than damaging the cactus with the sawing movement the best decision was topping it, but if it was a flimsy plastic hat it would have worked, Sending you tons of love for a fantastic Sunday and week ahead :-)
