Just a few comments.... Firstly, that abandoned village on Spike was connected to the Fort. It housed the families of married British Army or Barracks personnel (single men stayed in the Barracks). Their children had to be ferried across to Cobh, to school, each day. When a child turned 18, they had to leave the island. Secondly, the Lusitania was sunk 8 miles off the Old Head of Kinsale, but the bodies were brought to Cobh/Queenstown. The Courtmacsherry Lifeboat was the closest and set out from Broadstrand, in what was actually a rowing boat. By the time they got out there, they were collecting bodies. Thirdly, my granduncle was one of the 123 who boarded the Titanic, but unfortunately he drowned.

Thanks so much Steve. I just found this and Timely to say the least. My wife and I are going on a 10 day trip to Ireland (8/days there)/in the middle of April. Kinsale is on our itinerary but now we will make it a point to spend a day in Cobh. My grandparents were all from County Cork and I can’t wait to get back to my roots. I’ve always been drawn to the sea and now I know why. Thanks for an awesome guide! Jim from Brooklyn, NY.

We have just returned from visiting Cork and Cobh with inspiration from your video. We stayed at West Beach Guesthouse and mentioned your name. Mary remembered you from last year. We even stayed in the same room and got our croissants from Mary. Mary was such a lovely host. Cork and Cobh such lovely places too and the people so friendly. Thanks Steve. Love your videos.

Well done once again! I've decided I don't need to travel as old as I am. I can just wander around with you. It's a lot easier on my old body and my old pocketbook. Besides, if I went in person, I wouldn't get the wonderful descriptions of the places that I get from you. Say hi to Alicja for me. Be well, stay safe, travel Lots, love from Texas.

Hi Steve. Loved your video (subscribed). The first time we visited Ireland was 23 years ago with our two sons. They were 21 and 22 at the time. Now, we'll be returning to Ireland this June (2023). Except, this time we will be with our two sons and their families. A total of ten of us (including four grandkids) will be in Ireland for ten days. My wife and I are looking forward to seeing Ireland again, but this time through our grandkid's eyes - ages seven to sixteen. Last time we were in Cork we looked in a phone book for our family name (Sullivan). We were happy to see the Sullivan name was so well represented.

Hi Steve. 😊 I was in Southern Ireland away back in 1991, when I was a young man. I was travelling about by train. I reached Cork City, and then took the rails as far west as I could, to Tralee. I saw the name Cobh, at Cork station, but back then I had no idea
it had been where the Titanic sailed from, or even been known as Queenstown. There is also a Queenstown in my home country of New Zealand😊 Anyway that was a lovely poignant video

Hello Steve from Sydney Australia thanks for this fantastic video
I visited Cobh when i sailed from Sydney on a 105day World cruise in 2017. It was a highlight of my voyage
    Loved the place.
Princess cruises call there on every world cruise and the locals put on an Australian day celebration to welcome the ship
I am due to call there again if next years cruise happens, because of Covid the last 2 years have been cancelled
You have shown me lots of things to explore

Oh that was a wee trip down memory lane. My mum took me on sailing holidays to cobh when I was in my early teens right up to early twenties in the 90s. Spike Island was still a prison. I remember beaching there once and being very careful to stay below the tide line as to not get in trouble from the guards that came rushing along the road. There are many other stories but one I think involved the Roaring Donkey!!

I have enjoyed this tour with the history that goes with it…. Titanic & Lusitania very, very sad indeed! I was impressed with your mini accommodation for your overnight stay, if I downsized I could probably live in something like that….The Roaring Donkey looked a welcoming pub! fabulous tour Steve with fantastic views and great commentary as always, So pleased you survived the ‘Titanic’ see you next time then! 👍

We're definitely going to visit Cobh someday though as it looks gorgeous so thanks for the heads up. On our last Kinsale trip we drove the Ring of Kerry which was spectacular and right up your street. We also did a fab whale watching trip out of Baltimore with Whale Watch West Cork and it was amazing as we saw loads of dolphins and a few minkies. Nic Slocum and his crew really look after you on his boats so that's very much recommended too 👍

I’m working through all of your videos. This one is special as I’ve been here twice on a cruise ship. So interesting with the Titanic history and Annie Moore going to Ellis Island. And now I’ve just seen Ellis Island on another cruise. Fascinating! Thanks so much!
