  • Caesar crosses the Rubicon and Cato's shocked. The war changes Cato the Younger and he no longer follows the ideals he held so strict and sternly. Now, he pushes for peace, he recognizes that the Republic needs men like Cicero, and that war is never the answer.

Thank you to everyone who has watched and supported my channel! If you have made it this far and haven't subscribed yet, please do!
    So, what's next?
Now that Cato the Younger is finished, I will spending the next few months furthering my research on the First Punic War. This will be the next video series. I say over the next few months because I have to turn my attention to my schooling. This fall is my last semester and I am doing my Honors Thesis. Now, I am fairly good at writing papers and the subject I am writing about I already have extensive knowledge on, it is really just a time thing. When that is complete I can devote all of my attention on creating videos for you guys and I hope to have it complete by the end of this month (I have until December to get it done). In the meantime, I have some ideas for minor videos which I will upload during this downtime.

Ironically enough considering Cato’s disillusionment of his fellow senators intentions, and how Caesar handled the aftermath of the civil war, Caesar might have been the only one who shared Cato’s ideal of the Republic, even if just sentimentally.

You should have added Dante Alighieri's praise of Cato in his divine comedy as one of the virtuous pagans.

It would be amazing if you made a video series on Pompey or cicero.

A series on Pompey will most likely come after I finish the First Punic War. I would absolutely love to do Cicero, but I'm not ready for him. I've read, roughly, about 75% of his works, but I havent finished reading his letters to friends and family which I would have to finish before attempting to do a series on him.

wonderful! though my day has just begun, you've made my day complete with this episode. as always, i appreciate that you give us the accounts of Plutarch while being willing to remind everyone of his..generous perspective, at times. no man is perfect, but none the less Cato the Younger was a very good figure of how to conduct ourselves, as was his great grandfather.
now that the series is over, in the spirit of Patron-Client practice, i would like to patronize you for the post-production commission for this series, as though i know you did it of your own volition, it has taken much of your busy time and has been indescribably useful and enjoyable for myself and many others. i hope you'll accept and i'll try to check for a reply periodically.

My good Sir, you are too kind and I first want to say thank you! Im happy that you’ve enjoyed the Cato the Younger series! If you truly want to donate, I cannot deny a fellow Roman - www.paypal.me/DanCosta43
However, before you donate, allow me to say that your view alone is enough! I make these videos as much for me as I do for others. Should you donate, I will add your name to the next historical video I create as a thank you.

And here i see more of those comments I accidentally deleted in that period of scroll-deleting in my history, i should pay better attention in the future 🤭
Truly I remember the first comment well, i had woken, felt the “goodness” in the air of the day, and then saw this was uploaded. I came back from a hard day of farm labor and had my supper while viewing this episode. A half a year later, i am grateful for the effort put into this video. That was a good day, partly because of those efforts. Many thanks
