Cannot thank you enough! I watched this video months ago, saved it and bought the items listed. I waited until my firestick 4K Max notified me that it was out of memory.. (I am a procrastinator and was a bit anxious that I couldn't do this by myself.) Lo and behold, with your awesome instructions, I got the whole thing set up properly first time! I've already started moving some apps to the additional drive. Your instructions are the best I've found on UA-cam. Thank you! (Next problem is to replace the broken garbage disposal. Can you do a video?! Hahaha ❤)
Thank you so much for all your great advice. I was a streaming novice, and fell in love with my 1st Fire Stick, when it quit working I took your advice & got The 4K Max on sale! I want to do more of your tips as I am able. God bless you! 😊
Thanks, very complete demonstration on how to increase my device storage. I have been trying to do this using other channels instructions and it didn’t work. I called Amazon Firestick Tech Support 4 Times and due to poor documentation or training they couldn’t do it even with remote access to my TV and the device and finally a Supervisor told me it was not allowed and couldn’t be done. So I gave up until I just saw your video. I Followed your video just now, step by step and it worked!!! Thanks, so now as home tech support I am going to order another Firestick for the kid’s playroom TV with additional storage. 🎯😎
Wow wow Wow ...i learned sooo much from you tonight ..Thank you for all your videos and for helping us to learn so much more about our firesticks and how to keep it running smoothly...Your AWESOME 🥰
I ordered mine just now. It's a great deal. Thanks for the heads. I even got a rebate for trade-in old firestick and $3 Amazon gift card, and It came out to $27. Nice.THANKS
Well presented video! I always chuckle when people say `cut the cord` when actually they end up having a LOT more cords and adapters and wires and gadgets dangling around.

Followed your directions and it worked perfectly. Thank you so much! However I have a question. I have more than one 4k max firestick. Can I share the same storage device between my other firestick? The 1st firestick I used to set this up recognizes the storage and let me transfer apps. But when I tried attaching my drive to my other firestick, it gave me a message saying it was unable to read usb device and wanted me to format it again. I was hoping to share apps and any recordings between the two firesticks. Is that not possble?
Thank you for the video, the process was very easy. Now all I have to buy is the new fire stick 4k max and the mission power USB. I already have the other items and then I'm ready to follow the instructions of your video. Thank you again.
Very interesting! Thank you for the tutorial video(s). Definetely will look into getting the MISSION POWERED USB CORD... wouldn't it be nice if Amazon just created a future Firestick with this kind of cord? Thank you for sharing this information. Very helpful.
Thanks again for this great info, we have buffering issues at times and this should help a bunch with that and storage... your videos are really intuitive and allow us more capability on our cableless venture into streaming.... have a great day... ~D~
This was a great video..I was looking for some of the 3 so I now saved this one in a file I created called Fire TV Thank you.. Also..I hope I did not screw up things but I cleared out of the video without first "Likening" . Then when I left i thought i forgot to comment. then saw i did not like.. Thanks for this... Rich
Nice video putting everything together that provides what all your options are. On older fire sticks, you can take a bigger size drive and use Windows Disk Management to partition it several times in 64gb partition sizes, then format each partition. Then plug into the fire stick, and the fire stick will take care of the rest. It would be super cool to get one of these 4K Max's from you. I would be able to finally retire my fire stick from 2018. So please pick me!
You can actually do the same thing with the older firesticks without partitioning it with the same equipment. The only difference is you need to use 3rd party apps to move and access the content. We have another video on this process (however it's much easier on a max)
@@CuriosityCafe How do you pick users for the Firestick giveaway? How are you able to contact someone, do we need to post up some kind of contact info?

Your videos are awesome and easy to understand. I was able to clear my APK and got over - 1Gig of memory. Need your help on buying the right OTG to many out there. Thanks your the best
Thank u for video i love it cause i didn't hv no storage on my firestick i delete sum apps i wasn't using i use the setup u did n video now i hv plenty of storage thanks again it was a great video
Great video and exactly what I was looking for to add storage , remove the power cable and use a wired network connection, but it's not working for me either... I have a 4K Max that is updated with latest software. I powered up the Mission Powered USB for about an hour before plugging it into the 5V 1A USB on the back of my AV receiver and the mini USB into the OTG Cord adapter, with the other mini USB into the Firestick. This all works and starts up when the AV receiver is turned on. 1. I plugged in a 1TB thumb drive into the OTG USB and after a while of formatting, there was an error message (can't remember what it said) but I turned it all off and re-tried but it wont recognize it (doesn't detect that thumb drive when inserted). It did detect and format a different 4G thumb drive, for which I selected "device storage", so that part now also works but any idea on what happened to the other drive please? I did put it into my laptop and it still isn't formatted and only options were NTFS or exFAT. 2. The USB hub was out of stock so I bought the alternate powered USB hub you recommend. I plugged in the ethernet cable and plugged in the USB where the thumb drive was in the OTG adapter, but the firestick is still on Wi-Fi connection and doesn't detect the thumb drive in the USB hub - I assume that is because it needs to be powered with the extra cable, but how does that get hooked up in the set up in the video please? Thanks, I really appreciate the help!
I would stick to the hard drive we recommended. Link in the description: there are many that aren't compatible. We did the work for you to make it easy
@@CuriosityCafe Understood, thanks. I think I can get away with a smaller size stick for what I need. But I really don't think the USB hub recommended will work as this one needs power through the USB and data through the micro USB. I will hunt around for a different one with alternative power source or the one that you recommend that doesn't need separate power. Thanks again!
Have fun experimenting. If you get down to it, you can always go back to this video and the equipment that we know works. It's a pretty inexpensive solution. Most drives do need the powered cable, Regardless, fun to try stuff so I get it.
Thanks for your video! At 9:00, you talk about the OTG cord adapter. Is my understanding correct that it can replace the mission power cord and provide sufficient power to fire stick and external drive in using power from outlet? That seems simpler and more economical, no?
It depends on the drive used. Thumb drive, no problem. 2TB Hard drive? You need a mission power boost more than likely to be stable. It might work for a while, but no one wants a firestick crash in the middle of Tulsa King
@@CuriosityCafe Thanks. Is it a matter of power supply level or control/tension stability ? SSD disk are less power consuming, I believe would it be more adequate?
I was delighted to find you and your excellent videos re everything Firestick. I followed your directions to the letter using your Amazon links to buy the necessary equipment to set myself up with a 2TB external drive (the suggested Seagate, the Mission cable, the OTG, etc.). The only items I didn’t use was an Ethernet (my router is too far from the TV) and the USB Hub (but I have ordered the Alternate). I was so pleased to get it set up today. All was looking good and the 2TB of space was showing in “My Fire TV” in Settings. About 4 hours after set up, I began to hear intermittent beeping that I found out was coming from the Seagate. I have simply unplugged the drive from the set up for now. As search told me as the most likely reason is the drive may not be getting enough power. Have you heard of this? Do you know what the problem could be? Do you know of a fix? I hope commenting this may help others. Thank you.
We actually did a troubleshooting video you should watch. Your issue is either the usb port on your tv isn’t strong enough or you did not precharge the mission cable (required)
Thank you for the quick reply. I had the mission cable plugged in for 20 minutes prior to set up so it wasn't that. I will try to find the troubleshooting video and hopefully I can figure it out. Thanks.
I have a feeling your USB on your tv might be one of the low power ones not able to support a 2TB drive. You can do a smaller thumb drive. Maybe 64gb and see if it works, or the other option would be to get and extension cord and run it to the wall instead of your tv power. Either option should help you. I know about that beeping, and the mission cable isn't able to support it with the low power on your tv.
First I wanted to say thank you so much. It's really helped you showing us all the great things to do. I have bought both items and now need that storage you use. Please tell me what it is and where to buy it. I def need the storage. I bought the VPN you showed us and will be using it. My biggest problem with no bigger storage is the buffering so I have to go in and get rid of the cache and restart. I have a jailbroke firestick out of the UK. But what you showed how to look for other countries will work better. Again Thank you so much!!!❤❤😊

Hi, i have a question. I had a thumb drive on my 4k Firestick, it stop working. I bought the new 4k max 2 gen, i would like to use my thumb drive on it but it wants me to format it. Is there a way without me losing all my apps that are on my drive? Thanks
Ok thanks, the one that I had was a 128gb. But now that I have seen your video, I'm gonna order the same setup that you just showed from your links. Thank you for the great videos.
If you are talking about display, you can go into prime settings (we have videos on the developer menu)... If you are talking about theater sound system, you do this: To turn off Home Theater mode: Go to Settings. Select Display & Sounds. Select Home Theater System. Select Gaming Audio. Gaming audio mode switches audio back to your TV's speakers. Select Enabled.
Thanks for the video and good advises. I have a question how do you put applications and movies and music in the same external hard drive without do a partition?
Great video, I now have a working fire stick with a 64GB thump drive. Every app I add with downloaded goes to the new deuce. The only problem I am having is I wish to move UA-cam to the thumb drive, to free more memory on the fire stick, but it just loads back onto the stick. What am I doing wrong? Can what I want to do be done? Thank you.
Love this video, you made it so easy to do, thanks. One question I have is if I record some program from TVmate it stores the video on the Fire Stick, can that content be recorded to the USB drive instead. Thanks again.
@@CuriosityCafe I joined your Patreon site and found the video you spoke about. when I go to Settings and my Fire TV and I select about, I see the storage on the menu and it shows external space 4 gigabytes. The problem I’m having is when I follow your video to change the location it doesn’t show me the USB drive. I know that I can download programs like flex and it will store it on the USB drive. That seems to work fine it’s just having an issue saving content like recorded programs to the USB Drive is the issue, any ideas? Thanks in advance and hope you had a great new year.
Hi there. Bumped into your video last night, and bought just about all of the equipment. A couple of points: 1) I used the cheaper Oassusose adapter over the Mission one. Saved $7 and it worked just fine; 2) your alternate OTG hub is not compatible with your solution, so you may want to delete the link to it on Amazon; 3) the Ugreen USB hub is out of stock, but it had an older 10/100 Ethernet port. I substituted it with the newer Ugreen USB 3.2 hub with a Gigabit port and it works great; 4) I tried to install a Kingston 128GB USB drive and my Fire Stick didn’t see it. In your video, you used a 2TB hard drive. Do you recommend only using that? Or could a smaller hard drive also work? Obviously my USB thumb drive didn’t work. Great video, it’s appreciated!
The mission cable is the key as you charge it for 10 min prior to first use. Larger drives require the powered cord. Thanks for the update about the links. Both hubs do work though. I've used both. Charging your powered cord first is a must as the tag instructions tell you to do it.
FYI, I found the issue. I had a bad USB drive, and I’m getting it replaced as we speak. I did get a 256GB thumb drive from Amazon, and that works just great. I can also add 2 more components to the USB hub, and now I’m getting 230MBit from the Wired Ethernet connection (I was using an Amazon wired adapter and it never got more than 80MBit). I’m so glad I ran into your videos. Thank you.
Hi, thanks for all your videos very informative. I am using the Firestick 4k max - got all the equipment you suggested - everything works except the USB HUB to have it hardwired into my TV and have a new remote with a dongle - I think I might have gotten the wrong one cuz the one you showed was out of stock. Could you explain why mine won't work with this setup Please, Thank You
Yeah, sadly not all will work. It's very annoying. Also you will need the mission cable due to power draw. I will see if another seller has the one I use. The Ugreen works good also
Great video and very informative. Just curious if you know if the configuration on the Fire TV Stick 4K Max is different if you purchase it in Canada. There are some differences such as when I plugged in my USB drive it did not come up asking saying Unable to read USB Device with the option of selecting Device Storage. It automatically installed it as an External Device and when I’m trying to record something from Tivimate it’s saving it to the Internal Drive. This is just one example of differences. Hoping that’s not the case!!! Thanks
It should be the same. If you have Tivimate on the external drive AND you set the recordings to that external drive, it will do it. You have to do both. You’ll see when you set the recordings, you can select the directory. The default is always internal. You have to change it. Our Patreon post would help you if you are a member
Great helpful video! I bought all of the pieces and set it up exactly as instructed. I watched Hulu for about an hour and then heard a couple of beeps and the message came on the screen that there was nothing connected to my HDMI port where the firestick is inserted. The HDMI2 is showing as nothing is plugged into it on the Source menu. It feels like this is a power issue? The Mission box was charged for 15 minutes before I hooked everything up. Should the power be plugged in to the 5v USB jack? It is currently plugged into the other USB jack. Thanks again for your help.
Yes, that usb port is not sufficient. Two options. A more powerful usb port or just plug into the wall. Some tv usb just isn’t sufficient. Especially those larger drives. Easy fix
Thanks so much for the quick response! If I go back to using the wall plug cord to be plugged into the OTG cord, would I then still need the Mission box plugged into the OTG cord as well? Thanks again!@@CuriosityCafe
OK thanks again! Since that is a super short cord on that OTG adapter and won't reach a wall plug, I'll have to use an extension cord to plug it into the power strip, which shouldn't be a big deal. Not sure how much protection that strip will offer in a surge. I appreciate your videos and your help!@@CuriosityCafe
Exactly! I had to do that in one of our guest rooms. LG and Sony tv was fine, but my Hisense usb port didn't have enough power, so I added the extension cord. You are on the right track.
I bought one of those $6 outlet timers (often used for setting on/off for Christmas lights) and set it to cutoff power to my firestick at 3am and back on at 3:15 am
I now have all the right equipment except I can' get the Oassuosse USB hub you recommended to work. The drive is recognized and formatted through the mission cable but not through the hub. Do you have a video on how to hook up this alternate hub?
Cool video. I have 14 firesticks currently, many different types. Why would someone need 2TB of storage on a firestick? Never needed more than what they came with. You storing movies on there? Enquiring minds want to know. Thanks.
Many people use apps like tivimate to record/dvr live tv. If you use the full potential of the firestick you can get all the content and features of cable (saving hundreds a month). You need the storage to do this
Love your tutorials. I have a question for you, what is the path for recording on a firestick 4k max to usb with tivimate? I sure would appreciate the info.
I added an external 2tb drive and put Tivimate on it. It shows the little pencil in applications. My problem is anything else I added and any recording are still going on main storage. I haven’t added much but it shows I have 415mb out of 5.33gb. How do I solve this.
We used to, but youtube shut it down. But its really not hard. When you first set the recording a box pops up. Click the location and set it to the drive (default is internal)
@@CuriosityCafe Tivimate is installed on the external storage yet I get this path: /storage/emulated/0/Diwnload/Tivimate/Recordings. It doesn’t show me an external drive to choose.
When you click on that path it should open your file manager and you can select the external drive. If not, you might need to look at your tivimate settings, especially if you initially downloaded it on your internal. You can do it! Tens of thousands of subs are doing it. Private help is through Patreon it you need video help
I just bought the fire stick but pretty sure its not the 4hd. Have it simply set up so far with just kodi and 2 add on's. As interesting as this is at this point I'm fairly satisfied with just access to more TV channels and movie access. As I do not have cable television. However I am assuming the longer I have this I will be adding more apps and things so eventually increasing the storage is a good idea... Thanks for sharing this..

Again Thank you so much!!!❤❤😊
Thanks for supporting the channel. We always put the links in the description section and the comments section so you can find them easier. Here they are as well:

Hi, i have a question. I had a thumb drive on my 4k Firestick, it stop working. I bought the new 4k max 2 gen, i would like to use my thumb drive on it but it wants me to format it. Is there a way without me losing all my apps that are on my drive? Thanks
You would have to reformat it because it uses a different operating system. Why not just grab a 64gb drive off amazon? They are about $8 right now
Ok thanks, the one that I had was a 128gb. But now that I have seen your video, I'm gonna order the same setup that you just showed from your links. Thank you for the great videos.
Great video very informative
Great video!! can you help with problem!! How can I show videos on Prime that keep showing in theater mode?
If you are talking about display, you can go into prime settings (we have videos on the developer menu)...
If you are talking about theater sound system, you do this:
To turn off Home Theater mode:
Go to Settings.
Select Display & Sounds.
Select Home Theater System.
Select Gaming Audio. Gaming audio mode switches audio back to your TV's speakers.
Select Enabled.
Thanks for the updated info!
I could use one thanks
Thank you, all in one video. Does the work with the Fire Cube. If so what generations?
We have another video for the cube on the channel. Different process
Thanks
As always you bring great information to me.
Nice consolidated video.
Thanks for the video. Great info.. one question. Does installing more memory help to stop buffering on my IPTV?
No relation. Some IPTVs just buffer. Ours doesn't, but you need a special box to use it. But the IPTV is free so there's that.
GREAT JOB AS ALWAYS
I think I chose external so will I need to factory reset to change to device storage please. 😊
Thanks for the video and good advises. I have a question how do you put applications and movies and music in the same external hard drive without do a partition?
Es File Manager or set your download to the external drive using the program you downloaded with (example tivimate recordings)
Thank you.
Only way to move UA-cam is to install it from aptoide
@@CuriosityCafe thank you for the info, I will do it today. Again thank you.
Thank for this video!
Thank you, again for the great information
Love this video, you made it so easy to do, thanks. One question I have is if I record some program from TVmate it stores the video on the Fire Stick, can that content be recorded to the USB drive instead. Thanks again.
Yes, when you set the recording, you can choose the location. Did you watch our Patreon video on that subject?
@@CuriosityCafe I joined your Patreon site and found the video you spoke about. when I go to Settings and my Fire TV and I select about, I see the storage on the menu and it shows external space 4 gigabytes. The problem I’m having is when I follow your video to change the location it doesn’t show me the USB drive. I know that I can download programs like flex and it will store it on the USB drive. That seems to work fine it’s just having an issue saving content like recorded programs to the USB Drive is the issue, any ideas? Thanks in advance and hope you had a great new year.
I used everything in the second part, the only thing is I had a 1t WD hard drive that is not being recognized. What should I do? Thanks
I got it working had to change the format first then it read it on my stick
Hi there. Bumped into your video last night, and bought just about all of the equipment.
A couple of points: 1) I used the cheaper Oassusose adapter over the Mission one. Saved $7 and it worked just fine;
2) your alternate OTG hub is not compatible with your solution, so you may want to delete the link to it on Amazon;
3) the Ugreen USB hub is out of stock, but it had an older 10/100 Ethernet port. I substituted it with the newer Ugreen USB 3.2 hub with a Gigabit port and it works great;
4) I tried to install a Kingston 128GB USB drive and my Fire Stick didn’t see it.
Thank you.
Thanks for the information, as always.
Thanks for providing this information.
The Ugreen works good also
Very good video, thanks.
I have fire stick 4k but thinking end get me 4K max, you say that amazon give you credit?
Only necessary if you worry about power outages or surges. It can mess up your stick. The mission cable is good for that also.
Nothing beats an Ethernet connection. Always stable.
I bought one of those $6 outlet timers (often used for setting on/off for Christmas lights) and set it to cutoff power to my firestick at 3am and back on at 3:15 am
Love the creativity. If I can add one thing. Make sure auto updates are OFF in settings or you could brick the stick.
I now have all the right equipment except I can' get the Oassuosse USB hub you recommended to work. The drive is recognized and formatted through the mission cable but not through the hub. Do you have a video on how to hook up this alternate hub?
I don't know what hub that is. We show you in the video the physical hook up process for the hub we used.
The tutorial is already posted on Patreon. You can see it for free
This is AWESOME. can i download Twitch on the firestick??? thank you
I added an external 2tb drive and put Tivimate on it. It shows the little pencil in applications. My problem is anything else I added and any recording are still going on main storage. I haven’t added much but it shows I have 415mb out of 5.33gb. How do I solve this.
When you set the recording on tivimate you have to select the drive. It won't automatically go there
@@CuriosityCafe do you have a video showing where to go for that. I’m generally pretty good at this but this one stumped me.
I'm 4ever a beginner. I love and I've learn a lot for pass 5 years. TY. How can i win the newest firestick? Where's the link?? Don't find or see it. Help?
I never win anything😂. But i did, you sharing your knowledge. TY so much.

Great video 💪🏼
Thanks for information
Thx for the info..My name is Mike n I have a fire tv cube… can I use this adapter?
Cube uses a different amp adapter - also you use a different process. We have a different video on the channel for the cube. This one is for the 4K max stick
Question: Do you have any videos on “side loading” .
Yes on patreon we help getting any and all those good free apps. UA-cam no longer allows it so they got removed. You should check out patreon.com/curiositycafeyoutube
