Been playing dnd for a year now and your content has been the perfect thing for me to enjoy and learn about the new words I’ve loved exploring. I’m even backlogging the Dungeons of Drakkenheim! Keep up the great content. Separately, the thumbnail says “Apothercary.”
I can see this being paired really well with a simic hybrid. The Doctor that does weird experiments on itself to cause mutations. Love that idea. Really great job guys
Warlock is my favourite class, mostly due to the invocations and the variety they bring. So I really love the Apothecary! I wish other classes received similar features.
Ritual caster + Short rest slots equal to prof makes me incredibly excited to try and play an apothecary, I've always adored the posibility of a non magic utility character and while not *quite* what I desired its so close that i would love to try it
You've got Colby visiting! I'm so excited. I sure love all three of you. Thank you for all the great knowledge you've given me over the last year that I discovered you. (Yeah, I've managed to crunch 3 yrs of Drakkenheim into 8 months of time. You guys ROCK!!!) Much love!
Someone has probably asked for this, but I wish there was also an audio version of videos on this channel, like something dedicated to this type of content (something separate from live or actual play content). It's kind of hard to listen/watch on youtube when traveling or when working and using it as background noises (especially when having to do work on my phone), whereas audio (like on Spotify) can operate in the background while traveling and/or working. I also find it hard to return to the video when im forced constantly start and stop videos on yt, but i do still enjoy the content.
I like the “no you” apothecary build where you take noxious blood, toxic shield with toxicology theory for +5 damage, take armour of agathys with a feat or warlock dip, stolen secrets fire shield, go with alienist for the damage reduction so armour of agathys lasts as long as possible. You can be dealing an average of 60+ damage every time you are hit
this build might actually have a use for blade ward, or some other defensive abilities. just fully shell yourself from martials and otherwise. maybe some kind of way to entice or "aggro" enemies to hit you
@@mac_sour True. But you still have other spell options and theories that can help you. You are only investing 3 theories (4 if you want to eliminate poison immunity) so you still have a bit of wiggle room.
@@mac_sour I’ve just had an idea. This will take heavy investment but if you take the sentinel feat, you can teleport next to a target with your alienist feature, then they can’t leave your reach. You can take the theories that give you extra attack, attacks with intelligence and eventually added poison damage to attack roles. Maybe even take the crossbow expert feat for 3 attacks per turn dealing dice +10 damage
This couldn't have come at a better time, I'm currently starting as a Pathogenist in our high-level campaign. There are so many interesting buildcraft options in the Apothecary, especially in area denial, which is not something that other casters excel at. I went with _biohazard_ (a concentration-free damaging area, chef's kiss), lingering damage from _infect_ or _pestilence,_ various "cloud" options _(stinking cloud, cloudkill,_ etc.), and for Theories I picked up Acquired Tolerance, Surgeon's Instinct and Extracurricular Research (to get _thorn whip)._ I plan on dropping harmful areas all over, hide in them (immune to my own spells due to Acquired Tolerance) and then pull enemies into them with _thorn whip_ and _grasping ghost_ - and because of my Blindsight from Surgeon's Instinct, I can do so at advantage from within clouds that provide heavy obscurement. A veritable mustard gas commando. EDIT: Oh, and one of our party members is a high-level monk. The synergy with her immunity to poison is going to be fantastic.
As someone who doesn’t even play DnD and only has experience with Bg3, the flavor of this class is amazing. It really evokes the idea of a scientific genius, “if I mix this and this together I should be able to-.” It makes me wish I could try it in bg3 myself
I am currently playing a Dhampir Bladesinger in a Drakkenheim campaign, and taking a 2 level dip into the Apothecary let's you continue your spell slot progression, on top of getting the Esoteric Theory that let's you use you INT score for attacks and damage rolls on a melee weapon. Great combo!
Y’all need to do more 1 shots with Treantmonk and Colby! That was so fun to watch! Once the playtest is over for the classes/subclasses you should all play your favorite classes optimized in a tier 3 1-shot!
Love it! Love all of it. Keep the collab videos coming ^_^ Definitely going to have to pick up Sebastian Crowe’s Guide to Drakkenheim before running my next game so we can have this as an option.
I am very excited to get my copy of the book and actually make a few characters from this class. I already have the PDF, but I am absolutely anticipating the physical copy. I work at a tabletop gaming distributor(tcgs, ttrpgs, etc) and I'm having it delivered to work so we can all look through it together!
Fantastic to see Colby onboard for this one! If Chris and Will were there all my favorite DnD creators would be together. I would love to hear Colby's opinion of the other subclasses in SCGtD. For my money they are all winners; especially the Commander Fighter and Arcane Hand Monk. Would love even more to see some builds from him. Maybe do a Creator Content Build feature every once in a while?
Btw i would love more of the one-shot of this class that you made so if you could evolve it into a shorter campaign i would be all for it. The guests on that episode was great as well would love to see them back.
I just finished rereading and old module "Lords of Darkness, it's a forgotten realms, from ADD 2nd ed. it has eight deferent undead creature groups that you confront ,Skeletons, Ghost to mummies and Liches, your Apothecary can work with grub rot. one to look at also is a Mortician, he was one job that the barbers profromed along with what medical practices they had. Played one in a home brew and did side jobs for Death when required
I have been waiting for more detailed reviews and breakdowns on the Sebastian Crowe's Guide subclasses and Apothecary class! Happy to see this colab with Colby and I'm getting really excited for the start of our Drakkenheim campaign after we wrap up our CoS game!
There is a difference between science fiction and science fantasy. You guys have nailed that balance. I have two characters that this class would fit BEAUTIFULLY. Going to pick this up as soon as I can.
Great job guys. I love the thematic approach to this class. Knowledge is, in a way, the power of the Apothecary. Inventions, trinkets, herbalism, lore etc all rolled into one. Definitely see a lot of possibilities. Not sure about the multiclass penalty, but hey, you created it, not me! Fine work gentlemen.
I have been trying to find a class/multiclass in 5e for a character I had in mind just like this and to see this being designed is fantastic. Curious if the ability to use this through dndbeyond would be possible down the line?
Not going to lie, I teared up seeing Colby on this video. I’ve been following him and you guys since the beginning, and having those worlds collide and seeing the growth all of you have made is really inspiring and amazing. Keep it up!
I was waiting for this video so much, and I loved it! And so much news! Seeing the Dungeon Dudes with Colby makes me so happy! Can't wait to watch the subclasses videos and Colby deep dive!
When you mentioned multiclassing the Mutagenist with the Barbarian, I wondered about the opposite build. Your Int and Str swap, but you don't go high Int who swaps into Str, start high Str who swaps into Int. You can't cast spells, but you still become a barbarian with great arcana, investigation, and history checks. The Utility Skills-barian!

I really love the class and it's design, however I do feel like there is one thing missing, and that would be a "base" subclass. Ranger has Hunter, Rogue has Assassin and Fighter has Champion, these subclasses work on improving the base design of the class instead of adding an additional flavor to it, and as someone who wants to make a character themed as an herbalist using this class, it was rather difficult to find a sub class that doesn't drastically change the flavor that the base class itself provides, and I would love an "alchemist" or "doctor" subclass that leans into that more.
cool to see you guys do a colab. not deep dives biggest fan but thats just cuz of the asmr way of talking he does in his videos (at least the ones ive seen) but his actual content aside from that is pretty good so glad to see it

I think it would be neat if, during an encounter, the Apothecary had the ability to use their reaction(maybe?) to *"concentrate on the effects of their most recent concoction."* This would entail that, following a creature's successful Constitution saving throw against one of your spells, the Apothecary could spend their reaction to lower the target's next Save(has to target the same ability: If they saved vs CON it's their next CON for example) against that specific spell (or possibly any spell from the same school) by rolling a 1d4. - Group of 4 Apothecaries - Strap a self-destruction device to a rat/pet/or maybe even familiar (not excluded by wording) - Cast 4x Corpse Explosion - Cause 16d8 AoE damage
Question on the Esoteric Theory, Liability Insurance: You still require any and all material components for the accompanying spell correct? You only ignore the material components for Contingency?
This class speaks to me in letting me use the dark times of psychology. Having a degree in psychology I always wanted to it in D&D, but not many classes if any let you tap into that.
