Ranger Class Features Fix Level 9: - Add Relentless Hunter here; change language to: “When you cast Hunter’s Mark with a use of Favored Foe, it no longer requires concentration for that casting.” - Keep Expertise Level 13: - Add Precise Hunter here Level 17: - Add new feature, Apex Predator. Language: “The damage dice of your Hunter’s Mark increases to 2d6, rather than 1d6. It also no longer requires a Bonus Action to move the mark to a new creature.” Level 20: - Change Foe Slayer language to: You add your Wisdom modifier to the attack roll and damage roll of an attack you make against the creature currently marked by your Hunter’s Mark.
Keep in mind, "You can also sacrifice one of your attacks when you take the Attack action to command the beast to take the Beast’s Strike action", so you don't actually need to use your bonus action to command the beast to attack. Dual-wielding builds with Nick mastery can get a lot of mileage out of this.
Fey Wanderer's level 7 Beguiling Twist doesn't specify ally/enemy, and does not have a limitation on uses per rest. As long as anyone, friend or foe, saves against charm/frighten while your reaction is available, you can attempt to charm/frighten a different creature. If they/anyone else later saves against charm/frighten while your reaction is available, you can attempt to charm/frighten someone else with it. No limit on uses per day. Exploitable? Perhaps worth getting access to Cause Fear (Shadow Touched, Magic Initiate) to not rely on someone else starting a frighten chain?
Yet again I was watching the Drakkenhiem series when this video dropped currently on episode 75 season 3 I'm almost caught up with the series and it's been a blast a little sad it will come to an end soon I do hope I can get caught up before the series ends thanks for the amazing ride through the world of Drakkenhiem Dungeon dudes
My problem with it isnt that its not powerful, even the original 2014 one wasnt worthlessly underpowered and this is an objective buff, my problem is just that they kinda took everything interesting out of the core features
An archer beastmaster with the flying companion is great, but a dual wielder with beast of the land is pretty awesome too. Beast of the land can knock enemies prone, giving you advantage, and you can dual wield without a feat for 3 attacks at level 3, 4 at level 5, and 5 at level 11. More attacks to trigger additional hunter's mark damage.
Eladrin Fey Wanderer, NUFF SAID!! i also like the Goblin Gloomstalker in the Underdark with a serious case of short man sydrom, overcompensation :D tough guy
I know many campaigns don’t reach level 20, but we don’t get any exceptional upgrades (those ones are still good but meh) after level 17. So, dipping 3 levels into another class (or even stopping at level 15, once we unlock the last subclass feature) might be a better idea. While some classes have amazing level 20 features that are hard to ignore, for me, Ranger isn’t one of them.
Aragorn, Legolas, Lara Croft, Katniss Everdeen, or others like Geralt of Rivia or Link from Zelda are all quintessential rangers. Yet, *none* of them have an animal companion. I don't understand this fixation with putting the Beastmaster in Ranger, and especially not those saying the Beast should be part of the main class. It just isn't there.
While I agree that being a ranger doesn’t necessarily mean having an animal companion, I don’t see the problem of having the beast master as a ranger subclass. DnD is set in its own universe , I don’t see why they would have to follow the same ranger archetypes, especially when half of these characters didn’t even exist when the ranger was introduced in DnD. Having a whole class for beast master seems cumbersome too…
Yeah it seems the Drizzt influence overpowered all of those archetypes. Also his dual wielding overpowered the bow archetype. While I like Drizzt, it's a bit odd that a single, modern, fictional character outweighed millennia old mythology.
I want to make a Beast Master with a bear companion. The thing is that I needed it to be a sea or sky beast, I would make it transform into that. Specifically they transform neck down. That way I can have a bear with a bird body or a fish body or something like that lol.
26:55 currently playing a cheese grater Sea Druid where the 4/6 of the party are fullcasters with access to thunderwave or some other kind of movement shenanigans. We're all going to be playing spikeball with our enemies.
I’m still a gloomstalker ranger fan. While dread ambusher changed from 2014 to 2024, it still has potential. We players can still multiclass since monk and rogue still align based on dexterity.
one of my complaints about specifically Ranger is that all other martial classes gain an additional class trait with extra attack (even paladin which is also a half caster). I feel that they aren't even better than other classes at using hunter's mark, if they use a feat. fey touch gaining Hunter's Mark ( at least until level 13) and I feel that the level 17 ability isn't impressive enough because of the pure amount of options that give you advantage, especially when most campaigns don't even last that long.
I was really expecting a 30 sec video that explained how to choose a different class. I'm kidding, of course. Kinda. I wish I were kidding. Seriously, what the hell WotC?
A *Beast Master* wielding *Club* and *Dagger* can focus on *Wisdom* by taking *Druidic Warrior* for *Guidance* and *Shillelagh* _(ask your DM if you can cast _*_Shillelagh_*_ every 30 seconds out of combat, unless you _*_Hide_*_ or specify otherwise)._ You won't need the *Two-Weapon Fighting* style or the *Dual Wielder* feat, since you'll want to replace your Dex-based *Nick* attacks with attacks from your *Primal Companion,* and use your *Bonus Actions* to command it to make additional attacks. By level 5, *Summon Beast* is a perfect fit both thematically and mechanically. The summoned *Bestial Spirit* has *Pack Tactics,* while *Beast of the Land* can knock enemies *Prone* on its first hit, setting up your Wisdom-based d10 *Club* attacks for Advantage as well. At higher levels, consider *Conjure Animals, Summon Fey,* and *Conjure Woodland Beings.* Since both your *Primal Companion* and *summons* use your *Wisdom* for attack and damage, this *Shillelagh Beast Master* can do amazing single-target damage. The build doesn't require any specific *feats* or *ability scores* besides *Wisdom,* but consider the *Tough* origin feat, along with the *War Caster* and *Resilient (Con)* general feats, for a well-rounded melee gish.
Shillelagh (d8/d10/d12/2d6) + Scimitar is a wicked dual wield build. Use your Hunter's Mark for extra tasty dice, maybe even dip into Rogue for some Sneak Attack dice. Since Shillelagh is a cantrip w/ a 1 minute duration you can keep it running non-stop so most DM's won't make you waste a B.A. on the opening round of combat. At 17th level w/ 20 dex, just weapon hit's and HM is 11d6 + 20 dmg.
Oh, look, best dudes on youtube dropped a guide for - supposedly - best trackers and hunters of prey in dnd. But you know who else is good at tracking and hunting their prey? Subclasses from a dark fantasy world full of eldritch monsters and corruption of all sorts, with really weird church and mad mages conducting experiments on sentient humanoid-ish species which the best dudes on youtube might want to check out and do a video or two about. Similar to Sebastian's guide to Drakkenheim and Grim hollow, there's a subclass (or two) for each class of the game except for Artificer, and they ooze with flavor and amazing stuff. The book is called Steinhardt's Guide to the Eldritch Hunt. That was my third plug for this book and i'm actually proud how smooth it went this time.
my best ranger sotry is being the only one in my party still concious and using my bonus attacks to drop a purple dragon to 0 health after somehow rolling a coule nat 20s and only being at 5 hit points myself. And i keep revivify on hand because in this case i got our cleric up and she started getting the rest of the party up. btw you guys are so much better than critical role
totally out of context but this channel has about 500k subs but looking at the views even going far back its usually between 50-100k with some outliers under and over...so does only one fifth of the subs actually watch the videos or is this a normal ratio 🤔
Follows never really go away unless the perdon unfollows or the account is closed. For UA-cam, hitting 10-20% views compared to follows for a channel as old as the Dudes is pretty high. A lot of old channels usually top off at a 10% ratio.
It's not worse, but the core problems of 2014 were not solved. There is just no point to get into higher levels. It's still a very solid class for the first 5 levels but you should probably multiclass it into something past that.
15:08 Dont forget Magic Stone + Sling! This coupled with Shillelagh Quarterstaff + Shield, is an amazing way to build a Wisdom based Ranger!
For real though, the Wisdom Beast Master who summons looks really good.
Hehe missed edit in the beginning
Ranger Class Features Fix

Despite general community gripes, I love Ranger. Our Ranger is running a 2024 Hunter Farmer build and she’s a beast.
My problem with it isnt that its not powerful, even the original 2014 one wasnt worthlessly underpowered and this is an objective buff, my problem is just that they kinda took everything interesting out of the core features
Can't wait for sorcerer!
I really wish their cool stuff came online sooner (like the aberrant slug form all the way at 14th lvl)
Love the content gents! Keep it up. As a relatively new player you guys are my absolute favorite content creators
I was literally just thinking 'when they gonna do rangers, I've got a new campaign coming up soon'
Easily my favorite class
An archer beastmaster with the flying companion is great, but a dual wielder with beast of the land is pretty awesome too.
Beast of the land can knock enemies prone, giving you advantage, and you can dual wield without a feat for 3 attacks at level 3, 4 at level 5, and 5 at level 11. More attacks to trigger additional hunter's mark damage.
One Ranger that people forget about is Crocodile Dundee . That could be a fun build.
*insert taking an even deeper draw from a cigarette meme here* o boy, let's see how they work this one out.
Eladrin Fey Wanderer, NUFF SAID!! i also like the Goblin Gloomstalker in the Underdark with a serious case of short man sydrom, overcompensation :D tough guy

Drizzt had that panther. I kinda remember it being a figurine though. Correct me if I’m misremembering
Drizzr is exactly why, though he wouldn't be a Beastmaster Ranger.

@@Wintermute909It likely is because he is the most popular D&D character in terms of novels. He did get a 39 book series

I do kind of wish there was a feat or some way through chatacter creation to have a pet possible with every class, not including multiclassing.
I am playing a Dragonborn Ranger, as a Drake Warden, just got my drake, he is great
In my last long term campaign I played a great weapon fighting fey wanderer ranger. Not ideal, but fun.
STRangers are pretty cool too
Bow rangers always attacking at disadvantage bc the melee party members keep using the topple property
If your melee players don't leave a standing target for you to shoot, time to find new players
Ranger!
You don't need to make the dwarven ranger into some kind of outdoors type. Gloomstalker is perfect for a dwarven underdark scout.
Did Kelly repeat himself or was there a glitch in the matrix?
He stumbled over his words so he did another take. I assume it was meant to be edited out.
I've always liked Rangers. They... wait.
I've always liked Rangers. They shoot bad guys and don't afraid of anything.

Quartermain. From league of extraordinary gentlemen would be a ranger
The Ranger still misses its “Mark”. Our table will still be using Homebrews

I have to say. There is absolutely no reason a two weapon ranger can't go STR

First :D
Why is every ranger guide overlooking grasping vine......
The new ranger is the class that asks: “What if you wanted to cast hunter’s mark and nothing else?”
It's not worse, but the core problems of 2014 were not solved. There is just no point to get into higher levels. It's still a very solid class for the first 5 levels but you should probably multiclass it into something past that.
Mandatory HM is complete miss of a design. That feature should have been used for something better.
Why is this longer than "Roll a ranged fighter"
