Saw Fastway and met them at the Cleveland Agora in the early 1980s. Can't believe that was a lifetime ago. This. . . was rock and roll. Too bad we don't have enough similar quality rock in 2024.
I saw them in the 80s when they opened for Scorpions. As much as I like the Scorps...these guys blew them away. They were loud, on point, the whole show was amazing. They had that British sound and in my opinion were way too good to be an opening act.
Guitar: Fast Eddie (of Motörhead) Vocals: Dave King (then just an irish boy, later of Flogging Molly) Bass: Richard McCraken (of Taste) Drums: Jerry Shirley (of Humble Pie) Also in the group was Pete Way of UFO (hence the name Fastway) before he left due to contractual issues. Really, they were the most unknown supergroup that never got their deserved success.
@Jacob Tobias According to several websites, he was born Richard McCracken, and also went by Charlie. It's not clear to me if Charles was his middle name, or if Charlie was some kind of nickname.
Fastway was dubbed "the next big thing" and deserved much more recognition!! Record companies were wasting their time and money on promoting all those other "hair bands"
This takes me back to 1983 I had a Pioneer Super tuner cassette deck and a pair of Jensen Tri ax speakers in my 74 Mustang II winter beater, my girlfriend at the time, her father said he could here me coming from 3 blocks away blasting this very song!😀😀😀, shit those were the days!
King's vocals were spot on. Clarke was a great guitarist. Sound was superb...they just couldn't get passed one super hit in Say What You Will. A few more 'above their norm' collaborations is all they needed...wish they had. 'Say' is a top favorite of mine.
Firstly, how the H3LL do you remember that? Also...... I'm actually shocked to hear that MTV would've played this song anywhere other than on Headbanger's Ball. But I wouldn't know, because we didn't get cable TV installed where I lived until the early fk-ing 90s, so I missed out on several of MTV's best years. Our _wide_ channel selection included ABC/NBC/CBS/PBS, & Fox(and some sht called "Philly 57"). So it was either soap operas or endless reruns of Gilligan's Island, Three's Company, The Jefferson's, Facts Of Life, Alice, and Maude. I would've gladly traded MTV for Maude! But since then, MTV has sucked for at least a 1/4 century.
RIP Fast Eddie you were awesome ..And to me this is one of the best Videos ..Great Music and some seriously awesome cars ......Way to go :-D .....And Dave King you will always be one of my fav. rock and roll voices :-D ...
I remember talking to a crew member of Tony Arnone's Hemi Shaker at the beginning of the video (the black guy, forgot his name). They ran at New England Dragway regularly then. He said he felt bad for the drummer because he didn't think he realized how loud 2 nitro funnycars would be doing a side by side burnout past him. You can almost see him flinch. I had this video along with "Tell Me" on VHS I'd bought on post while stationed in W Germany in the Army in 85'-86'.
I saw Fastway at a ballroom in Omaha. Before the show the drummer Jerry Shirley was wandering around the floor talking to people. I have their first album. Good stuff!
I was there at ATCO DRAGWAY in NJ when NFL Films shot this. (I worked at the track). Ha ha, I ended up with the singer's shirt, trading an Aggie Hendricks jet car shirt for it. The announcer in the beginning is Bob Frey. I told the cameraman I would pour gasoline heavily on the track and light it, and you can see that footage right at the end.....
They were the good days! I miss seeing these cars, walking around and getting autographs from the drivers. It will be sad to know that those days will never come back.
I heard he doesn't like to talk about his time in Fastway. Not sure why, he should be proud that the music he made with Fastway is loved by millions of people from around the world.
Long before the Crue released "kick start my heart" with the lyrics "top fuel funny cars a drug for me".........Fastway put the nitro flames right up in your face. 👍
Fastway deserves more respect, very underrated 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
R.i.p fast eddie clarke! He is a king!
Saw Fastway and met them at the Cleveland Agora in the early 1980s. Can't believe that was a lifetime ago. This. . . was rock and roll. Too bad we don't have enough similar quality rock in 2024.
Disturbed. Megadeth. Pantera Anthrax Godsmack to name a few.
Although I'm should have put MEGADETH first ❤😊
Now THAT'S music! What an epic, underrated band. RIP, Fast Eddie Clarke.
epic, underrated, you forgot iconic, legendary, best everrrrrr, of all time and in history

RIP Eddie we thank you for Motorhead and Fastway ...2 awesome groups ....

Fastway was dubbed "the next big thing" and deserved much more recognition!! Record companies were wasting their time and money on promoting all those other "hair bands"
Ah yes, classic 80's rock at it's best.Fastway is the way to go !
I inherited their first album in a stack of records from a friend. It was one of my favorites.
Dave King has an astounding voice… killer band
Now THAT is RocknRoll! Kick ass song!
Found out about these guys because I became a Fast Eddie fan late in life. Probably the most unknown 'supergroup' ever.

Merry Christmas 🤶
Pure energy that music lacks today,,thank God for the 80s
I love them. Remember when it came out. And I’m 61. ROCK AND METAL RULES! Don’t Forget.
That's one of the coolest videos I've ever seen!
In the 80s, drag racing was the coolest thing on television.
I’ve been a fan of these guys ever since I saw Trick Or Treat RIP Fast Eddie Clarke
I had the exact set up in my 76 Orange Camaro except I was blasting Zeppelin.
supertuner pioneers were fucking awesome,so were their amps and 6x9s
King's vocals were spot on. Clarke was a great guitarist. Sound was superb...they just couldn't get passed one super hit in Say What You Will. A few more 'above their norm' collaborations is all they needed...wish they had. 'Say' is a top favorite of mine.
As a huge Rory Gallagher fan, I love this lineup of Fastway simply because of Charlie McCracken from Taste
love the fact Jerry Shirley was in Fastway 🤘
I bought this on cassette in 1984 because of the cover art. I never heard of Fastway. I became an instant fan from this song alone.
crazy how Dave King could rock like this and then sing something completely different in Flogging Molly.
Pretty awesome dude
'Heft' on the first album is a cracking track ✌
It is incredible
My favorite Fastway song.
That whole album and All Fired Up album are incredible...not a weak track on either
No. It's Say What You Will.
@@A1Authority right you are....and that sucka stands up to any song from any band, say what you will...and you will!!!!
This tune just rocks all the way to the end!
THIS WEEK of September 29, 1984 .MTV 's rotation list This video played 2 or 3 times a day .
