Is it true that the auto transmissions on Rolls-Royces and Bentleys from the 1998s and 1990s do not last near as long as there engines will, as this is what owners have told me, which is why my check gear box warning light is coming on,

Both engines and gearbox can last very well as long as you keep up regular maintenance. The check gearbox light could be to an electrical fault and the best thing to do is to get a diagnostic check to explore the cause of the fault
