Thank you for this video. Very informative. I needed to replace the window power switch on my 1989 420sel. This video helped me a lot in getting into that center console.
I don't know how to thank you!!! I will follow the procedure and check the climate control which doesn't switch to hot air. Your video is so kind and helpful. My car is 300SD, '83.I just had no idea how to detach the panel.
Neat! My 83 Peugeot 505 had fiber optics on the dash and was easy to get to. I liked that. Do you have more videos on your car? I had an 85 300D turbodiesel and always wondered how the 6 cylinder diesels ran.
Good job, thanks! I have 500 SEC/ 1984, and I want to replace all wood parts in a middle consol, and around stereo! Any idea, where I could order new woodparts??? or should I make them from nice vaneer?? Thanks, youtheman=)
a video on how to replace the drive belts, fuel filter, fuel pump, and on how to replace the distributor cap, plugs, and wires would be be very helpful.
i was just giong to ask about those little connectors that fall out as i am replacing all the wood with carbon fiber as the wood cracked and split just to expebsive to replace withb wood on my 82 300sd
Thank you for the wonderful and practical video. Please keep more videos coming. I just bought a 1990 420 SEL and I really like it. My memory function on the seats doesn't seem to be working do you know how to repair that?
For the climate control? On my car with full ACC there are bulbs built into the climate control head unit. I don't know how the cars with manual climate control were set up since we never got them in the USA.
My parents radio stopped working due to a battery dying for a long time. They said it needed to be reset at the dealer. Is this a anti-theft feature? And, how do I reset it myself? Thanks a lot. I inherited their 1991 350SDL with 108,000 miles and am watching all of your videos. They are very helpful.
great car but please keep an eye out on vancouver craigslist for european w126 bumpers and wiper systems, that car needs them and in vancouver they are not that hard to find (a lot of japanese imports).
Actually I already have the european headlights and headlight wipers. On the long wheelbase W126 I actually prefer the US bumpers.. they make the car a bit longer :) Plus they're nice to have in the city.
compu85, Do you have the skills to take a w126 becker radio head unit and somehow modify it to have bluetooth, ipod and xm satellite capability or the other way around: to take a new aftermarket head unit and modify its user interface to look and feel like an 80's becker mercedes head unit??? -Al
Is it actually necessary to remove the ashtray to remove the ACC (climate control) unit? The ashtray doesn't seem to interfere with the radio or the flimsy plastic tabs on the wood panel.
I removed that once on my car, I recall it simply plugs in. What is a huge pain is taking the switch apart... it's full of ball bearings that love to fall out as you try to put it back together!
Eero Laukkanen It's unique to the radio. Since my car still has the original radio the MB dealer was able to look it up for me. Codes are only used on the 1990+ radios.
The hazard light switch has a soldered in bulb. The single bulb is powered through a resistor for the backlight function, and not for the bright warning when activated. The recirc switch has an LED for its backlight.
compu85 thanks for the quick reply!! a second question - I have the Becker Grand Prix system and it hasn't worked for a while. doesn't power up, no response from pressing any of the buttons. Could it be a fuse? is there anything else I could check?
Mine had an aftermarket radio with a removable face that allowed enough space to remove the screws holding the wood panel, would be worth it for anyone with an aftermarket radio to check as it cuts out 75% of the work
I've had the door cards off to redo the vapor barriers, but I have not had a window motor out. It didn't seem difficult to get to though. The service manual covers door card removal quite completely.

Excellent video. The bulbs that are the hardest to replace are the two that illuminate the hvac buttons and rotary dials
Auto climate control was standard in the USA, so I've never had to fuss with those knobs!

Eero Laukkanen what did you find? I have same issue.
Well done and very informative.
thx for the info , very helpfull : i got a mercedes 260 SE 1987 myself :)
a video on how to replace the drive belts, fuel filter, fuel pump, and on how to replace the distributor cap, plugs, and wires would be be very helpful.
I can do a video on the drive belt, but as my car is a diesel it has no plugs, wires, cap, etc. I did a video on the fuel filter last year.
Excellent video, thanks!

you can refinish the wood, paint it black or something. carbon looks cheesy as hell on these cars IMHO
thanks for the great video. Much appreciated !

Thanks for the video.what about the wheel light in the console?it's coming from the same light bulb?
For the climate control? On my car with full ACC there are bulbs built into the climate control head unit. I don't know how the cars with manual climate control were set up since we never got them in the USA.

My parents radio stopped working due to a battery dying for a long time. They said it needed to be reset at the dealer.
Is this a anti-theft feature?
And, how do I reset it myself?
Thanks a lot. I inherited their 1991 350SDL with 108,000 miles and am watching all of your videos. They are very helpful.
oneonebravo11B Yes, it is. You will need a 4-6 digit code.

thank you great video! I have a w124 1992 300d I'm guessing it's similar

a video of how to install a seat adjustment switch would be nice

How many Fuel consumption in per liter of W 126 Mercedes Benz 3000cc diesel engine car?
Good job! Where you can buy those small lightbulbs....e-bay?? And, was the radio-code:9624?? =) Thanks ! I have MB 500 SEC/1984=)
You can get the lamps at most auto parts stores.
How about that radio-code?? Is that universal?/or every MB has their own??
Eero Laukkanen It's unique to the radio. Since my car still has the original radio the MB dealer was able to look it up for me.
Codes are only used on the 1990+ radios.
OK, thanks man, so mine, 1984 does not even have a radio code, right?/
+compu85 It was my father 126 radio and it was 1989 version.
is there a blend air door in the hvac box on a 560sel 1986? I have low heat in the car.
No. Air flows through the heater core all the time. There is a water valve up on the firewall that regulates coolant flow. Search on "Monovalve".
1:00 flasher relay located at where in fuse box
It's part of the "Combination Relay" that does the rear defroster, turn signals, and wipers. It's the 2nd largest one in the fuse box.
Nice job, Thank you!!!
what size light bulbs are they?
What bulb do I need to replace the bulb in the recirculation switch, hazard light switch, etc?
The hazard light switch has a soldered in bulb. The single bulb is powered through a resistor for the backlight function, and not for the bright warning when activated. The recirc switch has an LED for its backlight.

No LED's for this installation?
+tisoy909 I put LEDs in the cluster backlights, but I don't know how well one would work for the "spider" light.
Did any of you guys try putting a LED ? Do you think it will back the buttons brighter ?

thanks for the viceo
