@@straybenzes yeah, like the glue affixing the panel to the console. Wholly agree, since many parts I look to purchase often are missing portions or tabs that help secure these items. Still looking for a Bradley Maintenance Manual to help with particulars, but even they are lacking some content. My 64' Ford Galaxie 500 has three Berlin Phone Books for restoring my Victoria back to concour level. Most Benz's are much more complex than my Galaxie, and I've found factory manuals for the 500 SEL, but they are incomplete and costly. I just take my time, and never pry.

You do not need to remove the ashtray or coin tray. That plate comes straight up from the back and out. I know I've done it on mine. Yours could have a hook on it though, being an older model, but I did not see one since you were moving it around so much. Also my switches are on a single piece for each side which slides into place on the backside of the plate. You cannot separate and replace or open and clean the switches which pisses me off. The contacts inside get corroded and dirty. My volvo had single switches that I was able to open and clean and file the contacts and voila they worked like new. MB needs to start simplifying their cars again. You also need to grow a third arm to hold the camara lol.
