Do GLASS BEADS look Nice when set in Resin?

- Do glass beads look beautiful when set in resin, was something that I wanted to find out. I had a lot of glass beads and wondered if they would work or be lost in resin. I was surprised with the results. I made some jewellery and some casts with them, using some of the resin molds I made.

I like both musical styles, but nothing beats your funny, honest, straightforward commentary!
I prefer hearing you talk instead of the music, which is lovely, but your personality shines so much when you talk
I've been sitting on a metric ton of these beads from the 80s when bead looms were still raging. I found they make excellent "sprinkles" for my resin donuts!😊😊😊
I love the piano playing. Reminds me of my dad playing the piano by ear. So relaxing!
You’re my favorite artist, I could watch you all day🤭
The music is brilliant. Soothing ,still allows your mind to focus .xx
I like the softer, slower music. Great tutorial. Would've never thought of it. Thank you
I like either news of the day or soft rock when I'm working
Miss you talking to us. You have a very pleasant way and voice is calming
I don't know if it was the dark blue background or the beads or the low light, but most of these looked a bit muddy. Maybe if the beads had been divided into colors and poured and mixed in bands it would have seemed nicer. Did you have any problems with bubbles from the inside of the beads coming out in the resin? There are white or reflective spots which I can't really tell if they are beads or holes.
I wonder what the effect of strung beads on clear nylon threaoad would be inside resin....hmmmm
I like the calmer music, Steve. Thankyou
I personally didn't care about the music I like to hear the commentary. I like watching your videos 😁
Steve, dear, I am 60 y old and I listen to Slipknot for 'easy listening'. Seriously! I raised my son on heavy metal, rock and roll, country, rap, reggae, Motown, 70s, 80s, 90s, and all the way up. Eminem and Lil Wayne are my two fav rappers, Slipknot I've mentioned and Gary Moore, Enrique, ZZ Ward, Roy Clark, Waylon, Raymond Fairchild, Santana. The list goes on. After saying all of that, ;) I think the easy listening one soothes my soul.
The bangle and the pendant are great.
The pendent was beautiful! I loved how the beads spaced out on that one.
I love that you are not worried about trying new things. Very cool! I discovered by the way, that Swarovski flat back rhinestones lose their shine in resin. The facets I think are the reason they sparkle as they do but if you add resin over the top, they look like dull sequins!
@@SteveMcDonaldArtsandCrafts I haven't tried that yet, thank you!
They turned out really cute! Thanks for the video.
I really prefer the relaxing music. It's funny that you asked ; the first time I watched it at the beginning with the more upbeat music, I thought "I am really enjoying everything about this except the music" and I almost turned the volume down. But of course I was afraid of missing anything you said, and then the music changed 😅.
I watch all of your videos regardless of whether or not I like the music, you have a unique take on resin art and you always sound so reassuring, I never feel like I am going to screw something up. You are like the Bob Ross of resin art, and I mean that as the best possible compliment.
(also thanks for the tip about the toothpick in the top of the pyramid. I'm still kind of new and for the life of me I couldn't work out why some looked broken while others didn't. I low-key thought it was because I was using glitter for the first layer 🙄😂.)
I love upbeat music while I’m being inspired ❤️
Thanks hun that was fun...I have worked with the little plastic beads and find that they melt as the resin cures but still looks cool.
I like the calmer music, but I prefer your witty comments
What a lovely musical interlude! Nice results for the pyramid in particular. I just got some pyramid molds and I an os happy with them.
I love your channel! The music is great, here in California where it's chaos, you're the perfect balance to calm the noise. Thank you for inspiring me!
They all look pretty needed - thanks for sharing
I love how the bangle and the pendant came out the most. That island mold is pretty cool! I'll have to get one of those. I love your music choice. I love the piano. It's very relaxing.
Have recently come across you sir, then while looking at other stuff, came across this one. I just wanna say dont ever let the ugly people make you leave us who APPRECIATE YOU!!❤
I prefer hearing you explaining step by step your work . Thank you
The bangle was my fav. And I liked the relaxing music best - very soothing.
I prefer your commentary to the music.
I like hearing your tips and thoughts on the voice overs.
I love the piano music, the second one. First one not so much. I have been around piano music for a lot of years, since the 60s when my eldest sister took lessons all the way through my lessons in the 70s to my children’s etc. I love piano music. Soft melody’s are the best. Some lively if not to loud. So goo choice of instrument.
They're very pretty Steve and thank you for another idea. Enjoyed the piano music too. Off to watch the egg mold video now :)
The music is really relaxing, but I prefer to hear you Steve!
Music is relaxing and good while you are working on the projects thank you Steve
I like the piano music, thanks for your video I will be trying this
I like all kinds of music.... especially piano music. It's a nice touch for when you need to speed through any long, drawn out video...and gives your voice a break!🌺
Interesting tutorials.Thanks for your videos.GBY!
Great relaxing music thank you so much for your beautiful work
I liked the ragtime music you played at the beginning.
What a fun idea! I think relaxing music is fantastic honestly!
I’m not wild about the music in place of you talking. Glad when it ended. The beads look like some alien caviar, awesome! I love the bracelet most, but they are all very good!
Love this video I’m sure going to try it 😍
I love the relaxing piano. The music goes so well with your videos.👏👏👍❤️
I have a friend who puts colored glass into her rock polishing machine. She makes necklaces with the large pieces...they look like sea glass. She sends me the small smoothed out pieces. I add they to my resin pieces!! It's a visual rainbow of colors!!!
I like the calming music. It's very satisfying watching you craft
I prefer hearing you speak, but the music I like best is the relaxing music.
It would look amazing with a light underneath the pyramid 😊 I think it would really bring out all those colours ❤
I actually like the piano music! The choices are what they are to get it free. So, something different, like the piano is welcome!
Hi Steve, I used seed beads in a resin bead mould , the seed beads that I used are called mahatma too beads, and on the purple ones that are slightly translucent, they looked fantastic, also my other ones in the mahatma toho seed beads are garnet color, not real garnet but they look like garnet, and look great as spheres,, or no hole beads in fact, I made some no hole bead spheres with a small amount of glitter in the no hole bead mould in silver cured it with a home make 8mm glitter bead of a differant color,, then added clear resin with a touch of glitter, cured that and when near the top of the mould, added glitter differant color again and filled to very top of mould with the glitter mixed in a bit,and cured I made 20 beads with my uv resin and my uv lamp, turned out stunning, I realy love working with resin there's so much you can do with it , the music is lovely but I prefer more upbeat, like euphoric pop,not heavy not metal , euphoric classical is beautiful ,take tare Stay Safe.
These are awesome. I bought several packs of glass beads ,all colors, at Dollar Tree and use them especially in bangles. I’m going to try them in the narrow, tall molds?(don’t know what they are called). Thanks for sharing 👍🏻
Thankyou for sharing
Lol! When that egg came out!!! I told my roommate, ooh! I saw that in that before in "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert"!!!!
Steve McDonald Arts and Crafts so you know what scene I mean with the ping pong balls! Hahahaha!
Two thumbs up one for the resin work and one for the music.
Relaxing music is lovely!! Bangles so pretty!
Steve McDonald Arts and Crafts I’m definitely ordering a bangle mould 👌
Steve McDonald Arts and Crafts good to know lol thank you 🙏
That was great. I'm not sure about the music as you have a very upbeat bubbly personality so the music threw me a bit, but that's just my opinion. The bangle was my favourite.
Lol the music 😆, but u always make cool stuff resin, that's why I had to subscribe 😃😃😃
Incredible ❤️🎈🌷
I really enjoyed the piano music. I thought the beads would show up more colourful. It’s almost like they turned the resin gray. I like the egg mold.
These are neat!!!
Oh, and I liked both pieces of music 😃
New subbie here. Truly enjoying your vids!! I like the music. IT is relaxing.
~diane
Good job .
I'm glad you did this. I don't like it at all. I have pounds of similar glass beads from another hobby and I don't like them in resin. Thought it was me but I see its just personal taste. I'm glad you used them. I learn a lot from you Steve
Might want to redo this one using the lessons you let us know about how to get a thicker viscosity in your resin. I'm referring to your use of baking supplies in the Lustre one.
I like the relaxing music :)
its shared so many places my Loving Mentor
You are so cool 😎 Love your ideas!
The music is great.
I love how the beads turned out in resin
@@SteveMcDonaldArtsandCrafts You're welcome Steve Im okay and not baking anything this weekend > I will be getting my son and I a birthday cake our birthdays are 2 days apart so we get one cake lol... I have been craving a chocolate milkshake and I forgot to get ice cream and chocolate syrup to make us one so guessing it will be yogurt later and my summer fave dessert is strawberry shortcake
@@SteveMcDonaldArtsandCrafts Aww thank you its almost 10 days away thankfully he loves buttercream roses as much as I do and this week I will not forget the ice cream we got home and it dawned on me I forgot .
I love the piano music. It is relaxing. What was the mold that had all the intricate lines in it? Great idea!
Love the bangle and pendant. Pyramid looks a bit dark but that might be the lighting
Love the music.
Oohhh I like the bracelet and pyramid. Nice work!
Steve McDonald Arts and Crafts you are so sweet! I haven’t been uploading as often as what I make sometimes I don’t feel they are that great to post. Also, with home schooling the girls, it’s harder to edit where the time is reduced to just a few minutes. Notifications are wonky though... I received only this one this morning. I like to watch and reply as soon as I get notification because I always learn something new!
There will be one soon tho. 🥰
Steve McDonald Arts and Crafts aww thanks! Of course you know I’m a fan! :)
How do u get that pendent out so easy?
Love ur videos
My glass bubble beads arrived today ,can't decide what to do first
Hello sir, I love your videos and I watched them forever. May u tell me which resin you used
Awesome xx
Steve McDonald Arts and Crafts I used to have loads and gave them away lol x
I love the music
Is it my screen or what, but it looks to me like your clear resin came out kind of yellowy and you can’t really see the beads through it. where is it because it’s almost all beans, that they make the world resin look dark? Great video and I’m very grateful for all the knowledge you’re passing on.❤
I love adding beads to resin.
Steve McDonald Arts and Crafts I like using seed beads, Glass tube beads and different shaped beads. From glass to plastic. I love color and how they all sit differently in resin.
Steve McDonald Arts and Crafts it depends on if you put them in right away or which molds you use. I tend to drop them into my trinket and coaster molds after pouring a layer of resin. If the holes are small enough, I usually don’t see bubbles.
How would you go about making your own island mold in the shape of various islands? Say I wanted a mold in the shape of Isla Mujeres or Hawaii... Could you do a tutorial please?
Can anyone recommend a good quality resin for jewellery making?? I'd due try some but not matter how much hardener i added it was sticky!! Thanks!
Those are very neat and I like them what else would be really cool I think is like what the pyramid in the egg is to poor in layers like clear layer thin layer of beads or color another clear layer another bead or color Slayer I think it would reflect the light through the peace a bit more as well just a thought but those look really cool I like them a lot you have a happy healthy safe day Steve
I prefer the slower softer music , but I would rather hear you talk. My Mum was from England and even though she didn't think she still had her accent I could hear it sometimes. I just have a southern accent.
Try pro marine art resin. It’s super shiny and worth the price. Stir slow and don’t use wood.
Not a fan of the music. I need to hear the explanation of what’s going on, that’s why I like your videos so much. So many people are just doing “fast forward” music only tutorials these days, it’s frustrating.
I’m not sure if it’s the camera but the beads don’t look very colorful...they look all muddled together. I love the idea of this, though! Maybe less beads would help??
opinion: It’s a little intense watching the high-speed animation, so I like the calming music then. I also like the music at the beginning when words aren’t so necessary, or maybe a simple caption, like, “You’ll want molds, beads, and resin, plus these tools.” I especially like that you combine music, silence, and speaking (for detailed instruction, or humour, or commentary) in the same video. Many videos just use one, and your videos are more balanced. Nice work.
@@SteveMcDonaldArtsandCrafts I don’t mind high-speed animation when necessary, We are sometimes Watching Paint Dry 😂. But you seem to make really good use of cuts, where that works . Who knew being a filmmaker would become so important to being a good teacher 😌.
NEW - Hi Steve
I hope you dont mind me messaging on here. I am at the moment drying some flowers with the silicon gel you kindly gave me a link for. I am wanting to get myself sorted with some starter kit stuff, as I have nothing. Do you have a video listing essential kind of things, there are so many resins to choose from and im completely confused. I am getting wooden sticks etc, and have seen a "reversed letter and number mould set on amazon, which I am thinking of getting.
I want to start by making letters, numbers, words, coasters, and keyring, paperweights etc kind of thing. I saw your video putting lights into resin too, so am ordering some of the battery lights, as I think these will look good also.
Is there any chance you could give me a list of the things best to buy, as there is so much choice out there!
thank you so much
Terry
I’m wanting to make an egg shaped stone with resin and crushed tumbled peridot. I’m thinking I’ll place the stones into the egg mold until it’s almost full and then fill it up with resin. Stirring occasionally to mix it in until it’s full. Then stir again to try to remove bubbles. I’m hoping this works. Has anyone else tried this and if so how did it work out for you?
I mix the crushed stone with the resin first, it seems to have less bubbles that way. If you put the crushed stone in dry, you’ll get 1 million bubbles coming up from the spaces between those stones.
@@cathyrodammer4190 can I just mix the bubbles out after pouring it into the egg shaped mold? I’m afraid if I mix it before pouring, the opening won’t be wide enough to pour the mixture in. Even with a funnel. The opening is not very wide. The stones are very small but I don’t know, I’m just worried about it flowing all over the sides of the mold while pouring or it getting stuck in the funnel.
Very cool looking. Have you ever tried crushed glass? Or crushed mirror? Might turn out sparkling. Toodles debs from Texas
Weelllll since you asked...I never got to the classical music because I had already muted it from the super obnoxious starting music. I would rather have you talking about your process but if not...classical music, yes...that starting music...NO. But I like the video and enjoy watching your process.
Hi how do you know how much resin to mix for a project please- I've dabbled in a bit of jewellery making with clay and covered in resin also I've done quite a few coasters after painting them but always have a lot of resin left over and seems to be such a waste as never anything else to do with it
@@SteveMcDonaldArtsandCrafts aww thank you I'll check this out just- 💕
You are lovely. Don’t change a thing :)
For the egg if you don't want them to all sink to bottom then pour in 1/3's. So fill the mix 1/3 of the way and let it set, then repeat for rest. Should take that issue away for you and give you cooler effects.
this video gave me a craving for caviar
Liked the music
Relaxing music please 👍
Like the more Mello music you use
The egg. for any "deep" moulds it works better if you layer it. Ie. Build up the layers and let the layers "cure" before adding the next layer. This way the inserts, in this case beads, will be trapped and not sink to the bottom. This works , I promise:
May I ask why the resin looks greenish? Did the glass beads give off colour?
OMG! It looks like fish eggs. LOL!
I like this soothing music. Since you sped up the video, It's better with slower music. :-)
you are so CUTE. love your videos!
