Thank you Ludger & Alan, that was very interesting with a very skilled pianist. Absolutely beautiful! I think Angelina only needs a piano or guitar that follows her with a simple backing while she dances around with her orchestral voice.

Just beautiful Alan. Listening to Ludger play the only thought that kept going through my mind was to have his piano track together with Angelina's mesmerizing voice, would be a wonderful mashup of two incredible artists. Just a visual I picture in my head. Thank you for bringing Ludger back to the channel......a real treat.

Angelina's version of this song is one of the few times Angelina has really shocked me. She first slowed it down, as she often does, and then took what I'd always assumed was an feel-good upbeat song and revealed the heart wrenching melancholy the lyrics are actually expressing. An absolute masterpiece - again! Even though she didn't really know the lyrics. 😎

I grew up with this song, have always loved it, but Angelina's rendition hits the heart with so much feeling. Having grown up in a classical music family, I truly appreciate what Ludger is able to elucidate from Angelina's performance.
Thank you, Alan, for a fine introspection.

As usual you bring a fresh listen to every Angelina performance. Piano is my favorite instrument and Rhapsody In Blue is my favorite song. Listening to the different stylings is wonderful.
I lived in Unalakleet on the Bearing sea across from Nome Alaska the first time I heard this song. Late one winter night when the radio could pick up a signal from Anchorage. Some songs and a few performers stand out in your mind. This song and of course Angelina do just that. Thank you

A thoroughly enjoyable 26 minutes of musical interpretation. For me, it is wonderfully connected to Angelina’s genius. Ludger creates his own magic with the point of origin being AJ’s effortless and spontaneous creation of musical beauty before our eyes. She seems to create a new starting point for every song she performs, spreading her “Angel Dust” all throughout this classic song. I really enjoyed this.

Alan, it is very hard to comprehend the fact that all the music that I have experienced in my 75 years is new, and far better, when performed by Angelina Jordan, and it has meaning like it never has had before in the past with the AJ touch. In the movies we see stories about SUPPERHEROS that are fantasies, but in Angelina Jordan we have a real SUPERHERO that can use her powers to bring peace to all that experience her.

Angelina created this Masterpiece just a few months after coming to LA in 2018. She had just received this fantastic Neumann microphone for her 12th Bday, and this was one of several Incredible performances with Ivan during that time (Stay, A Million Years Ago). I'm a child of the 60s, so this song was indelible in my mind. When I first heard her rearrangement, it just blew me away. I thought, how can a 12 yo girl take this classic R&R song and create something brand new; a blusie, jazzy version that is just unbelievably great. Maybe Ludger had the same experience when he first heard it. Of course, this was a prelude to Angelina taking other iconic songs (Bohemian Rhapsody, Suspicious Minds, etc.) and creating something brand new. The thing each transformation has in common is that she slows it down and gives it a bluesie, jazz vibe, which of course, is right in her wheelhouse. I really enjoy your sessions with Ludger. His phrasing/timing on the piano is impeccable. I could listen to him play for hours. Thanks Alan. Looking forward to more of you and Ludger. 😊😊

Yes, that is the plan- for L and I to do more sessions together.
I enjoy these as much as anyone else. If you look carefully, he will regularly knock me back in my chair- I almost swoon from his playing- it is so unexpected.
I sent him a list of several different criteria he could use to choose the next song we would listen to together.
And it stretches him and me and the viewer

@@thealanpapier That's great news, Alan. When I mentioned his phrasing/timing, one of the most impressive components of that is his use of negative space/pausing. That has it's own emotional impact. Several commentors have mentioned how great it would be to remove the guitar from this performance and allow Ludger to accompany her on piano. Don't know if you can do that, but like them, I would love to hear it.
