Amazon Echo Show Auto Live View On Motion Detection For Ring, Blink, Arlo, & Wyze WIFI Cameras

- Today, I'm going to show you how to set up an Alexa routine so that if your Ring, Blink, Arlo, Wyze Wi-Fi cameras detect motion, it will automatically stream the live view to your Amazon Echo Show devices. Using Alexa routines, you can also get your echo show to stream the live footage when somebody pushes the doorbell of your Eufy Video Doorbells. There are some caveats though that I will be talking more in the video.
In this video, I will set up the routine for my Ring cameras - Wired Ring Video Doorbell Pro, Ring Spotlight Cam and also tested it with my Ring 3 Plus Doorbell and my Ring Spotlight Cam battery. I also tested this with my Blink Outdoor, Arlo Pro 3's and Ultras, Wyze Cam V3 and my Eufy Battery Doorbell.

I was on the phone with Ring and ALEXA customer service for FIVE HOURS TODAY trying to fix the live video & audio on my Alexa Show 5 NOT being activated by the Ring Doorbell's motion detectors. I have Alexa announce motion from my Wyze v2 and pan cams using IFTTT and voice monkey but I keep it to just two IFTTT routines to avoid paying for IFTTT routines. Works like a champ and the lag time is nearly instantaneous.
What is IFTTT??
Why is there latency? WHY? A wifi signal is milliseconds from fifty feet. There is no way in hell it takes six, seven seconds for the feed to get such a small distance. Its being uploaded somehwere far away and brought back. Its also unacceptable with todays technology that a cam be on standby power until motion is activated and miss five seconds of evidence. These are not even helpful home security right now. If your wireless keyboard for your PC took five seconds from the time you hit a letter on a keyboard until it shows up on your screen you would never buy it. I just dont understand why the problems still exist. My best guess would be data mining. Stand in front of your wifi camera and talk about how much you would like to purchase a new riding mower. Then go watch the ads on your social media without ever searching for a riding mower.
I suspect the latency is in contacting the corporate server and establishing the stream relayed by the corporate server as it's all designed for streaming from your phone while you are not at home and your home router acts as a firewall allowing connection initiation from inside your home WiFi to the outside world but not vice versa unless ports are opened in the routers advance settings or by applications running on devices within your home network using the UPnP protocol which unfortunately viruses can also use so turning off UPnP on routers is highly advised. Just be glad the communications with corporate servers have come a long way since the TiVo days where it was once every fifteen minutes to half an hour.

You highlighted the Ring doorbell "bug" during the video (3:36, Brian? contacted Ring) and I am pleased to report the issue has already been fixed on my Ring Doorbell Pro 2. When I stream doorbell video to my Echo Show 5 show today, the doorbell no longer turns a solid blue color and the ring button no longer gets deactivated (i.e. the doorbell will ring while streaming).
Problem seems to be solved.

Hi Life Hackster, Thank you very much for this routine. I set it up and it was working fine on one Echo Show device. However after the inital success I decided to buy a couple more Echo Show's in the belief that the same routine should work flawlessly on all of them. It seems I was wrong as although the motion live feed still works on the original Show but I cannot get the same routine working on the other two Show devices. Do you happen to have any suggestions how I can get them working with the same routine or there is no chance for that? Many thanks in advance.

Thank You. You can still use it with the Ring Pro.. the blue light showing is not consistent and it also shows up a bit later in the streaming...so if somebody has the intention to ring your doorbell, they will be able to still activate it before the blue light comes on.
@@LifeHackster I followed all of your instructions but when I go to smart home, all of my cameras are greyed out and say “device unsupported” :(. My phone and echo show 8 are both updated. I’ve tried logging in and out, as well as turning on and off… no luck. Any suggestions?
Hi, great video as always. Do you know if you can configure this for a Reolink Argus 3 Pro? I have just purchased an Argus 3 Pro and I am now exploring more options. I don’t have an Echo Show but might pick one up if you can do this!
I found a solution for stopping the video from ring, which is especially important to battery powered systems.
You set up a second routine, also triggered by movement on Ring camera. Then you add a delay of on minute in the actions, then custom action "Alexa, End" and it will end the live video after one minute.

It didn’t work for doorbell camera. For some reason alexa is not stopping the live stream after I added second routine with 1 minute delay to end. “Alexa, end.” Anyone has any ideas what is wrong ?
Do you ever just cut to the chase? It takes you in a lot of others so long to get to the point that we're here for it's frustrating I get sick of waiting and trying several times to get to the point where I can learn something and all I end up hearing in the end is about your $3, 000 or whatever worth of sales which I really could give a shit about. So fortunately I have a solution turn you off and give you a thumbs down thanks for wasting so much in my time!

Worked great on my Eufy and Echo Show! Now to find that Google screened device to go with the home mini and nest mini, it's still in a moving box somewhere
Mine also does that pulsing while loading. This video was timely as the notification popped up on my phone after if figured out how to request the video feed on my echo show and had swiped back to home

Great video! Can the devices where it displays the motions be an Amazon Fire TV Stick? That way the routine will show on my tv if I don’t want it to go to the echo show? Also, can I have a routine turn of my echo show after the motion alert turns it on. It stays on indefinitely after the routine.

I'm not sure with Swann... but Reolink is as far as I know the best bang for the buck as to wired NVR PoE cameras.
This work mostly for one echo show, problem starts if you have two or more. With blink it's impossible to do it on more than one echo show. Blink does not allow live view in multiple devices. Lag can be shorten if you get rid of an announcement before running a camera view. I have an announcement being played on other echos without the screen, like flex for instance. I haven't tried it on ring but with people coming in and leaving right after like postmen, with this lag this option is useless in my opinion. This can be also set with a motion sensor, to view a camera once for instance door is opened.

@@LifeHackster What would happen if you make a routine for your front door, but a copy of that routine for every echo show you have? would it show it on all of the shows you have routines for, or would it only go to one and say the others are unavailable?
@@Onii-chans-neko You may have already tried it, but I had done this just now for two Echo Show 5s, and they both failed. The routine ran and the custom command went and got the "ok" reply, but then instead of loading the video they simply stated "Sorry, I'm not sure what went wrong."
My Echo Show stopped showing alerts from my Ring cameras that I have programed. It still shows the Ring Doorbell Pro, but not my wired Floodlights anymore, it says sorry, I don't know what went wrong. Is there a fix?
Is there a way to set a time-out for a Ring camera?
I did this with my Fire TV instead of the echo show and it worked the same way. I wonder if you can add a fire stick to any TV and have this routine work on regular TV.

This worked at first with my ring pro doorbell and the Echo Show and was pretty cool. I can press the doorbell with the routine activated.
But things started getting strange. I don't know if ring or Amazon updated something.
On my phone, I automatically get a window at the top of the screen showing video from the doorbell. But the Echo Show stopped showing video from the doorbell. Also had some issues this morning with my phone not being able to connect to the ring hub on wifi. Don't know if that was connected.
Finally just disabled the routine.
Do you know if they updated the detention time settings for the wyze cameras bro?
Hello... I did the routine for the motion detection. But when someone actually rings the dorbell then it messes up the echo, cause it receives two commands to show the camera. Have you come across that? And if so... Do you have a workaround for it?
I wonder if it's possible to set up a second routine triggered by the doorbell that would stop the stream after one to two minutes to avoid draining your doorbells batteries. Even when you connect the doorbell to the standard 24 vac doorbell lines, the smart doorbell only trickle charges off the 24 vac and still runs off batteries when streaming, it's just that when wired, it will recharge afterwards.
Do you know how to fix the brightness on night vision from ring pro? When someone gets to close to the door it gets very bright and you can't see the face
As always, a nice and useful video. I after your comment about the 10 minute on time, I decided to try another routine to see if I could handle that. I made a routine that says if there's NO motion from the Blink front porch (or other) camera for 2 minutes then do the custom command "Alexa, home" and it seems to work. I've checked to see if it would keep running every 2 minutes in the absence of motion and it doesn't...a good thing. Bear in mind this routine has only been tested for 10 minutes but wanted to share it while it is on my mind... I;m an old guy (75) so things come and go quickly!!!
I tried the no motion routine on my blink but it didn’t work..it did work for my Arlo ultra..anyways, I made a new video and I have a more reliable fix for it..Check it out.

Seems like the live viewing will only work for one device. I tried to duplicate the routine but it is cutting off one of them.

I have an Echo Show 5 at my home office desk and my workbench, and want to have this 'auto show' go to both... but I tried it just now and the routines worked, but rather than showing the live view, each Echo Show said "I'm not sure what went wrong". @LifeHackster is it possible to have the eufy doorbell calling the phone when its pressed? or is it text only notification? i didn't see an option to change that feature. Do you thing eufy could upgrade that in future software update?

Wyze cam, I'm glad and hope people caught what you said, that you Have to have Person Detection.... Because Wyze removed it a while ago and now you have to Pay to have it PER camera.
Lifehackster great video, I was wondering of you can clarify what you mentioned about the Arlo wirefree doorbell, does the motion video feed routine work? What issues did you encounter? What about the arlo pro2?
It works with the Arlo essential doorbell..my only issue is that the Alexa integration with Arlos new cameras are not the reliable..it will work one time and not on other times..
@@LifeHackster Yeah I hear ya, I just boxed up my 4 arlo pro twos and the doorbell camera and put it for sale on eBay then went to Costco and bought ring cameras.. Netgear as a whole is a joke when it comes to customer service they had me on hold for HOURS AND LVL one support is useless.. not a real consumer tech company, I had MAJOR issues with the alexa integration being inconsistent like you said works half the time, times out, resolution issues the doorbell motion range is under 10 feet... I wanted to go with Eufy but no smart home integration and per there support team it's not part of the plan.. I figure I'll go with ring even if the image quality isn't the greatest at least the Alexa integration of strong motion-sensing works and I have an idea who's moving about my house

Odd.. I have the latest Ring Doorbell Pro2, and routine seems to work "manually" or in test mode, but when I actually walk in front of my ring, it doesn't seem to auto-run. Took off the "Alexa, End" routine even.
I did exactly as you instructed on your video and mine does not work. What am I missing? I have a Ring Doorbell and an Echo Show 8.

Really great video! I'm having problems with Eufy cameras that don't activate Alexa routines. Neither with movement nor with the lack of movement. I've already tried Eufy's support, they simply say they are compatible and don't send a solution. There are hundreds of posts on the internet on this subject with this brand. Not even the door sensor activates functions, despite all these devices notifying well through the Eufy app. The strange thing is that my Doorbell activates Alexa routines well. Today I got tired and look for another manufacturer with cameras that can activate routines, preferably without monthly subscriptions. In your opinion, what would be your current recommendation. I like the Arlo but they are VERY expensive.

I think Echo Show got the security camera integration to a new level than Google Nest Hub.

@@LifeHackster I tried your method as if the tablet was a phone and the "custom" action is not available. I can call up the cameras on the tablet. If I use my phone to make the routine, the tablet is not something I can send actions to. But I did share your vid with the Ring Camera FB group and a few people found it helpful. I set this up on my cameras back in may or so. Last month it stopped working for some reason, only the door bell triggers the cameras view. I deleted the routines and set them up again but still isn't working. did something change in the app, i have it set to show video when it detects a person and worked perfectly for months. Any ideas?

Try unlinking your Ring account and link it again and see if it will work.

The feature "Auto Live Streaming: When someone rings the Doorbell, a real-time video of the Eufy doorbell will display on the device with Alexa" is not supported. Furthermore, the latency/buffering issue is frustrating. My Alexa Echo Show 8 used to make an announcement when the Eufy Video Doorbell 2K was pressed/detected emotions, or it showed on the screen that "someone is at the door". Now Alexa stops doing that altogether. Appreciate your input.

I misunderstood..I tested it and it will cancel the older activated stream and replace it with the recent one.

I was SOOO excited to find this video. However, for the life of me I cannot get the routine to actually show the Ring camera's video on any of my Echo devices. When I'm setting up the routine, and include "Alexa, show me the driveway" as the action to take, it just doesn't happen. I have deleted and re-created the routine several times using different cameras and different Echo Show devices, all to no avail.
Is it possible that something has changed in either the Ring or the Alexa app that would cause the steps in this routine to not work now?
Would the auto live feed work on two or more echo show's at the same time? Also, would be nice if you could make a video doing this on Fire HD tablets. Thanks!
I did test this and it seems not to work if 2 same routines are running on 2 echo shows.
You can get two or more live feeds using the nest hello doorbell and nest hubs
