Great video! I just picked one up almost 2weeks ago now and really like it. With the latest updates this works GREAT with Ring alarm and has now added a on-screen keypad for the alarm that I have seen from early videos that was missing. If your device works or links to the Alexa eco system it will be controllable with this hub. The key is setting up GROUPS in the Alexa app which makes the Echo Hub much more sorted and usable IMO. It's still an early product but a few tings I'd like to see is battery percentage on devices and more control of other devices (color settings) beyond routines and power usage from devices that measure this as well as temp/humidity sensors and Smoke/CO2 alarms linked to Alexa. I use SmartThings, Wyze, SmartLife, Hue, Switchbot, Ring alarm, and a slew of other Zigbee products linked to Alexa through skills, bluetooth, and WiFi and all these devices work great on the Hub. Overall pretty happy and with Ring alarm with a GROUP I can see the status of ALL my sensors and alarm state in ONE view. The Camera, Notepad, and Calendar widgets on the Home screen gives me FAR more information quicker than using the Alexa app or trying to stumble through menus on an Echo Show device or Fire TV device. If Amazon is serious (which I think they are) this Hub will only get better with future updates. Hopefully my lengthy reply here will let others know this is NOT a gimmick device and is a TRUE Smart home hub with NO coding needed or "special" drivers and other workarounds to view on control your devices all quicker than the Alexa app with NO migration to Home Assistant, Hubitat or others.
@ 12:37 I noticed that only two of your five cameras have screenshots and the remainder have icons. I'll bet that the two with screenshots are Ring cameras. Are these screenshots current or was it the last time you viewed the cameras?
Nest cameras do work on here but I would recommend the Pixel Tablet for those. I'm working on making a video about that to see how the experience compares.
I will buy and use this for one reason and one reason alone. This is a great way to answer the ring doorbell without your phone and not having to move too much. In my house where my couch is located, there’s no table or power supply near by. I also have a glass front door. So, if my phone is in another room or my wife is home alone and the doorbell rings there’s no way to look to see who’s at the door without the person seeing you. But, I can mount this and grab power from a wall light switch. And if someone rings the doorbell I/we can answer the doorbell through the hub and the person won’t see us or know if we are home or not. To me, that’s worth the price alone.
One of Amazon’s big wigs already said charging for Alexa services would almost certainly happen in the future. I want to know if it is going to show advertisements as my Alexa Show devices do. I find that annoying and may move me to go back to a non display device.
I love this but it’s driving me crazy, my blinds don’t group they are all individual even though they are assigned to one room and the cameras are icons and don’t display any image unless I press it. Any ideas?
Awesome video! I had not seen this device till now! It’s unfortunate they didn’t include a camera! I have a massive amount of Echo Shows / Ring Cameras over multiple houses so this would be nice to have at my office desk as I’m not too thrilled with the Windows application! Thanks for the in-depth review!
I'm only really interested in the camera-viewing capabilities, mainly the four-cams-on-one-page view, and Ii like the idea that it can show cams from different brands. But because it's a bit too 'Equalizer-style drama/ totally paranoid layman' to have a multi-camera display on all the time in your lounge, my question is: can I leave it on that view by default, but the screen remains blank until such time as I wave my hand in front of the device to get the screen to light-up and show the cam feeds?
@TechWithBrett I saw that man congrats! Amazon's 1 company I can't find contact info for to save my life lol. But seeing your nieche and size I'm not even surprised man.
Great question. All you need to do is add the Echo Hub into the same group as the smart lights. Then it knows what lights are in the room. Here is a full video about creating groups: ua-cam.com/video/hY7JUq9RXBo/v-deo.html
@@TechWithBrett Thank you! The video helped. Another question. Will either of the following hubs (Apple, Google, Amazon) be able to replace a Control4 setup? If so, which one will be best? I’ll need it to control AV
@@TechWithBrett That, I’m not sure of. My aunt just moved into a condo (I haven’t been over there yet) and the former owner left the control4 there but it’s dated. @brandoncampbell6606 if they are Zigbee they could be connected to this hub. The other option is to get something like SmartThings or Hubitat that supports many types of frequencies.
Great review! Question: Does security show which Ring sensor is open when setting the alarm on? Ring Keypad doesn't. I would like to replace the Keypad with this hub. Thanks
Extremely helpful video. I've been waiting for this and just placed my order. Was able to trade in an old echo device for a $5 giftcard and 20% off towards the hub.
I haven't seen that has an option yet but I will keep a lookout.

Brett, Great Video. Is there any way to change the tiles on the bottom of the echo hub? I want to display the status of my garage door. It shows up under the" other" tile button and I would like it to display on one of the bottom tiles. Second question. I noticed that your security tile shows "disarmed " I have to go into my tile to see the status. Is there some setting for this to display correctly. Thank You
I like using it to check to see if all the lights are off in the home before I go to bed. It makes it so I don't have it remember to check my phone or use the voice assistant late at night.
My alarm arms after the garage door closes and my phone leaves the WiFi network. Conversely, it disarms when the garage door opens and the phone connects to the WiFi. It will arm/disarm when the front/side/screen door opens and the phone is on the network. While not perfect, its works well. A few glitches here and now. I use Konnected for my Alarm system.
Hi great video, i have a alexa dot mounted flush in my ceiling, connected via bluetooth to ceiling speakers, question do you know if you can connect the screen to another alexa speaker which is connected to external bluetooth speakers ? Thanks
If you try to do that, it will just disconnect the echo connected to the bluetooth speaker and become the speaker. You could you just connect the new echo device to the other bluetooth speaker. Then ask it to pair or unpair for whichever echo you want currently connected to that speaker.
Hey Brett enjoyed your video about the echo hub very much especially about the Poe adapter from Wasserstein but I can’t seem to find that one. Where could I pick one of these up. Thanks

- dinner will be ready in an hour - ........... what? that made me laugh === Great review! It's clear the hub is underpowered. It's noticeably laggy and sluggish. Amazon had to cheap out on the processor!
Thanks, good review. You have thousands of dollars of smart tech, To be honest, no one would be spending hard earned money on all that unless, I assume those are mostly supplied free for review purposes??
I have purchased many smart products for my home, but I do receive many in exchange for me posting videos about the product. I have seen many forums where others are purchasing 50 products at a time and outfitting their home. If you look for deals at certain times of the year, it actually doesn't cost that much and adds quite a bit of convenience to life.
@@TechWithBrettThanks, yes I can understand the convenience and Star Trek factor. 👍 BTW, do you also use Home Assistant? I'm just getting into all this and sm going through a big learning curve. I see many people using Alexa with Home Assistant. ?? I don't get it, HA is supposedly more powerful so why use both? Would it be just for the voice actions produced from Alexa which makes the pairing work? 🥴🥴
Great question. I don't use Home Assistant but I definitely see the benefits. Home Assistant is working on its own Voice Assistant but it works with other Assistant to expands its reach to control your devices. Because I do use a lot of products, they are not all compatible with every Assistant because some of the require certain hubs and such. Home Assistant is a platform that has a goal to be compatible with every device. This means that no matter what voice Assistant you use, if you build your home with Home Assistant then everything under the sun will be compatible and thus they will then also be compatible in the voice Assistant app that you choose. There is also a lot more customization and features you can create in HA that other platforms don't allow.
@@TechWithBrettI see. Thanks for a comprehensive response 👍 I'm sure you've heard of it, but in case you haven't, there's a very nice system just off KickStarter, LinknLink ISG that has a dashboard display with its own AND Home Assistant OS built right in!! Cheers
The problem with making holes is these products become obsolete so fast, it's not worth it damaging your home. You can only patch the walls so much that you'd need to replace it
I was always worried about doing that but I have learned it really isn't that difficult to patch this back up if I ever wanted to. Because I wired through POE it will also be very easy to upgrade or change devices in the future.
Such a thorough review - best I've seen yet, thank you!

Kind of.
Including spying people. LOL
This is like the echo show 8 but mounted on a wall
Wow

- ........... what?
that made me laugh

Great review!
Thanks for a comprehensive response 👍
I'm sure you've heard of it, but in case you haven't, there's a very nice system just off KickStarter, LinknLink ISG that has a dashboard display with its own AND Home Assistant OS built right in!!
Cheers
Wish google would do something like this.
Mount Genie does have a mount you could do something similar with the Pixel Tablet: amzn.to/3UJJVl9 (Affiliate)
👍It's nice! But i prefer Google pixel tablet
I'm surprised Google never released a wall mount for the Pixel Tablet. I think that would be pretty cool.
@TechWithBrett yep! that would be cool. I would have to make a shelf into the wall to put the Google pixel tablet on...
