  • UPGRADE this beast with a bigger guard and a much better trimmer head!
    - Replacement head is here amzn.to/3MOKhPF (get the original one from Husqvarna not the fake knock-offs that break after a few days!)
    - Replacement guard is here amzn.to/3QoGU5g (search for "OEM N512929" 15-inch Replacement Guard)
If Amazon doesn't have it you can try the DeWalt parts store: www.toolservicenet.com/dewalt...
    (and search for N512929)
The bigger guard fits the following DeWalt models:
    - DCST970 (DCST970B and DCST970X1)
    - DCST990 (DCST990M1 and DCST990H1)
These two SIMPLE UPGRADES will take your trimmer to the next level. For the most cutting power I prefer trimmer line with 0.095 inch diameter and please wear solid shoes when using this beast. If you've ever hit your toes with a running trimmer you know what I'm talking about.

Warning! The N512929 guard does not fit the DCST972X1, which comes with the DW0AS9ST trimmer attachment. The mounting attachment point is totally different. According to the manual, the proper upgrade guard for this trimmer is part number N905733.

Really helpful video. Was having same problem with the line constantly jamming, followed your recommendations and was back in business in less than 5 minutes. Works great now. Thanks!

Thanks for the video! I got the replacement guard before the trimmer came in. Great job showing how to do it! I have the T35 head coming now.

Good video, i too have bought the same bump stop head that you have, only as a spare, the original cord that comes with the strimmer for me is the main problem, i changed the cord & it works o.k, definitely needs a bigger guard, ive also made a cover for the motor, made out of a metal tea strainer to keep all the grass cuttings off of the motor.....

I love the tea strainer motor cover idea - that's awesome!! Will have to try that!

Thank you, i will definitely try and hit you back. I was getting frustrated with the tangling so I got a the thicker line and it has been working better. I will make the changes and try both line sizes.

We run .095" Husqvarna line (round) which works great. With all the trimming we have to do we go for the big spools like these amzn.to/3RIVzZF
The hex-lines don't seem to last quite as long as the round ones IMHO.

@@CascadesHomestead This morning I received both parts from Amazon, put them together, and weed whacked away. Works like a charm, even with the .095 line. Thank you for the video, I was getting upset at the continuous snapping of the line!
Question: have you tried the after-market battery for the 60V? Thinking of trying one, just as a backup!

Hi Paola, I have tried two different types of cheap Chinese aftermarket batteries (both 9 Ah), they didn't last very long and one died within a few months. So... I probably won't buy aftermarket batteries again. One more thing: do NOT buy the DCB615 15Ah battery - it is too big to fit :( The DCB609 9Ah fits just fine.

excellent - thanks for this info. I freaking hate the OEM string head and yes...the OEM guard is a joke as well. I'm wearing most of the trimming shrapnel after each use. It's a real frustration with this model.

That tiny guard left me covered in debris from head to toes - thank god for safety glasses! The wife said: WTH happened to you? :D
