I remember, when I got my european copy of MGS2, it came with an online doc that talked about the development of the game. The crunch was real: Kojima declared they were entering "submersion mode", and people were sleeping at the office, not seeing loved ones, in order to get the game out... as a kid back then, enamored with Japanese culture and unaware of what real work was, I was so impressed that they worked so hard for such a great game. Of course, now societal perceptions have changed, and we understand that jobs shouldn't force you to do unreasonable things. I'm still in favour of "a bit of" crunch-there will always be times when you need to push for a deadline-but it should never seriously harm people's lives. Point I'm trying to make is: Kojima is no stranger to crunch, and as Ashton alluded to, he comes from a time and culture where it's more normalised. For better or worse.
Oh wow, another Hollywood adaptation that has nothing to do with the source material? That worked out so well for Dragonball Evolution, Final Fantasy The Spirits Within, the live action Super Mario movie, both Street Fighter movies, the Mortal Kombat reboot, etc 🙄
Hence why, considering the fact it’s releasing on April 25th and also that Sony hasn’t given it much marketing, I think they’ve realised that it’s going to fail and flop hard. Sony really fumbled the bag and messed up hard on this one.
Umm, just say you never played Until Dawn. Until Dawn was a player choice game. Can't really do that in a movie, can we? It was never going to be truly faithful to the source material because part of being faithful to it would've meant they would have to make it a viewer choice driven movie.
@@Hugh_Jannis "another Hollywood adaptation that has nothing to do with the source material? That worked out so well for DRAGONBALL EVOLUTION..." Everything else you listed were movies.
They don't only grind in video games in Japan; They are also toiling in real life! Being a workaholic has a lot of downsides though... Many Japanese students go to cram schools and most Japanese workers do a lot of overtime after work! In the US some dudes have three jobs. It's a bit of a crazy lifestyle...

@ absolutely! Don’t I know this too! lmao as a musician it’s so frustrating seeing / interacting with “ai artists” and “prompt gurus” (real terms I’ve seen lol) I’m like no you’re not a musician or an artist you’re a content farm!
They loved the game so much they made some rando house horror movie? Its so bizarre. Just remake the actual game and you've got yourself a good horor/suspense/game adaptation movie. The story of the game is fab. It's gunna be a box office bomb 100%
David F. Sandberg is a pretty good director whose movies are quality-contingent on the scripts. He's made some mediocrity, but I don't think it was ever his fault. That said, Until Dawn has peaked my curiosity. But if the script is pants, it's gonna be cringy. I don't mind that it's a departure from the game. Hell, I appreciate it, even. The game was already intentionally cinematic. So if I want to see the game as a movie, I'd just... Watch a Let's Play of the game. Expanding on the world sounds fun! Let's do weird, different stuff! As for the AI-input thing... Sounds like a great way to ruin a gaming session. 😅 "No, I didn't want to jump there! Now I'm dead!" I really can't see people utilizing it because of a 1/50th-of-a-second input lag.
"Hideo Kojima laments being no better than Konami's management as he manages to keep a straight face while 'pushing' employees into crunch he will not experience." ^see, that's more honest, but doesn't make a very good headline. I hope Kojima turns out to be less crappy than Kubrick did!

Bruh, that movie has nothing to do with the actual Until Dawn game. Like, I do think the idea is of the plot is neat, but its just not Until Dawn.
It almost seems like they wanted to make a Dark Pictures Anthology movie until someone decided Until Dawn is a more marketable name.

Dragonball Evolution is a video game movie?
@@TheMTwinny Where in my post did I say that it was?

AI is garbage

You know Hideo, you COULD just delay the game to avoid crunch, right?
I think it was Ridley Scott that Ashton was thinking of.

The news really needs a sign off. You should steal "kiss kiss" from Andrew on the Cultaholic news vids.
Who was that director? Quite the riddle!

Ok, it's been like a dozen videos now, what's going on with the audio? It sounds like Peter is wearing a mask
Is the guy's mic even on? or are we just hearing him through the girl's? Ah, nm they fixed it. That was a rough start audio-wise, but it got better 👍
Wheres my ashton?? :(
⚠Note to the producer: The mics being used make the presenters sound like they are broadcasting from inside a submarine.
True. Peter sounds like he's on the canceling side of a cardio mic, or simply somehow off axis. Ash sounds more or less fine
DO YOU GUYS NOT THINK THE SONY PATENT MIGHT BE GOOD FOR THE portal
What? Awful audio.
Oh nah. The low energy in the intro turned me off immediately from watching the video. Project your voice! Give us some energy! Some feeling! Like wtf
