    Love Lutron and Caseta... whole house is fitted out, but this one seems like a pass to me. Although, I have had all my outdoor lights on plug-in dimmers for a couple years now :) Being electrically inclined, I ran a new circuit to an 8" PVC enclosure mounted under the deck. Plugged the plug-in dimmer in, ran a pigtail from that out to where I can access for other lights. Works like a charm, and it's practically invisible.

    I wish the end of the plug was longer, perhaps various lengths to choose from. And it shows the pain plug into the house covered from the elements… but the other end uncovered… is that safe? Maybe make a clam shell to cover both ends

    Been using Lutron plugs and switches indoors for several years now and finally made the jump to use smart plugs for my Christmas lights. I was surprised to find Lutron still didn't have anything. Had to shrug it off and go with something else for outside. Odd its taken so long to release this.

    • @nmarq005
      @nmarq005 3 роки тому

      So what did you end up using for your Christmas lights?
      We just bought a new house and had plugs installed in the easements, tried to use a smart switch and the breaker kept popping along with the switch getting really hot. Next year I will try LED lights and hope the smart switch will work.

    • @CyclingDad
      @CyclingDad 3 роки тому +1

      @@nmarq005 I just went with Kasa. I had one existing indoor plug that I was using outside on my protected patio (because it had the 3 prong) whereas the Lutron dimmers did not. I got several of the Kasa Outdoor Smart Plug (KP400). Bought them on AMZ, and they were discounted (still are right now) so its a great deal. Moved that other one from my patio to inside to use with the Christmas tree. I don't want to have too many apps, so I've been trying to just stick with the two brands. I like that there are two plugs. Downside is that there is no dimmer (if that matters) so patio lights are either on or off. My buddy also told me it doesn't work direct with Apple Homekit but there are ways of doing it. I don't use Homekit, so wasn't an issue for me. For me the price was a big thing - they retail for $40 CDN on AMZ, but you can get them for $25-27 CDN right now. My indoor dimmers and switches from Lutron are pretty pricey by comparison, but I do like the pico remotes and dimming capabilities of those.

    • @CyclingDad
      @CyclingDad 3 роки тому +1

      @@nmarq005 BTW, we did the same. When we built our place, we added a variety of plugs on separate breakers on the side and under easements. This year we actually sold off all out incandescent C9 off cheap and moved to LED. We still have non-LED deer, rope lights, etc, but the main draw of the lights isn't there. You'll like the LED.

    Looks excellent! However I can barely manage the range of my Caseta system to reach devices that are inside my house. I’m at the limit with my range extenders already. Also, the limit of 75 devices gets used up fast when every Pico controller also counts as a device. I’d like to make further investment here but I’m up against a wall.

    My wife bought this and what they don't make clear is if you just buy the "smart" plug/switch you will need to buy an additional hub to connect it to anything for an additional cost. I have the "smart" plug-in switch sitting on my desk right now but by itself its just an on/off switch. I didn't want to have to plug in and unplug my lights all the time. With the Lutron, I still have to go to the plug and push the button. I can't connect to the app, I can't connect to my wifi. Nothing without the additional hub. Why? I wanted a smart plug. Instead, I have an $80 on/off button. It is far from "smart" if you only have the plug-in switch. Take the word smart off this product until you only sell it with the hub together. It is a dumb on/off switch and this is all, I will be returning it asap.

    Should have been an outlet, not a pigtail. One reason I did a lot of Caseta is they LOOK good. This is just another ugly add-on. OK, outdoors that may be easy to hide, but I would like outlets inside also. Not wall warts either, a real, honest outlet, inside the box.

The Lutron app for Caséta/Ra2 Select does allow for multi-home, which means users can toggle in-between different homes within the same app/email account. However, if adding a second smart bridge in same house, users will have change over to the "2nd bridge" to control the devices that are paired to it. Love the idea, but really needs the 2 outlets, ideally separately controllable. At a minimum and even from your product video you're going to be taking up both plugs from an outlet, so what if you already have one plug used?
