6:33 I don’t understand this complaint. Did you not realize that you can move the scrubber while the light is off and then press the on button to turn the light on to the brightness level as indicated by the scrubber? You know, just like you would do with the dumb version of the Diva switch? If anything, if it worked the way you suggested, I would probably not buy it as I think the big upgrade with these switches is being able to adjust the brightness *before* turning on the light. Not something that can be done with the old model.
8:50 also the original style lights are green as are the picos and fan switches, but the new style are white. Super minor but when you have both next to each other it’s noticeable
This is not for you buddy. Lutron works, period! $15 switches do not have a hub. By not having a hub you add multiple devices to the network. Also also when u dim multiple lights they wouldn't be in sync.
Great video. Touched on all the important points. My last home I had outfitted with the original Caseta system and loved it’s functionality. Just moved into a new house last last month and just got my last shipment of the new caseta switches to finish outfitting this whole house in the e new style. I gotta say I absolutely LOVE the new design on these switches. Much better looking with an almost undercover type look. Nobody would know they are smart switches if I didn’t tell them. A month in and so far I’m very pleased with both the dinners and standard switches.
Seconding this! I moved into my first home in August and had always planned to kit my house with Lutron when it came time. The timing worked out pretty well that these switches were available as soon as I was ready to start installing Lutron in my home. I love how unassuming they look and the dimmer switches are much more intuitive than the older style
I replaced all of our existing caseta dimmers with these and love them, the only thing I’d like to see is matching picos so I don’t have to rewire my 3-ways
The double-whammy on the size of the dimmer and fitting it in the box is that the wires are all built-in, so you end up with a ton more wire to stuff in the box. Rather than just attaching the existing wires to the side screws like on a normal switch, I now have the wire hanging off of the dimmer (including the traveler I may not need) plus likely a wire nut for each. I've never been unable to make it work, but it would be so much easier if they'd just give us normal screws to attach the wires to. Maybe there's some technical reason they have to do this, but it's pretty frustrating.

It got to the point that I thought my newer home was incorrectly wired but it’s not. Pop in some incandescents, flawless victory. Shame really, I want to use the more responsible, longer lasting LEDs… but the performance is just meh.
The reason I went with the Caséta switch is that my apartment doesn't use a neutral on their light switches and the OG Caséta was one on the only ways to get a smart switch to properly function.

I upgraded a few of the original dimmers to the new Diva in places I don't care as much about 3-way dimming. Since there is a 75 device limit with the system, having picos in some location takes up space in the device count. Switching out a few devices and therefor removing the Pico has allowed me to add dimmers in other locations.
@@griffindeluce Not exactly sure what you're asking, but let me give a better example... I have an upstairs hallway that has 3 switch locations. I originally swapped out the standard US toggle switches of a Caseta dimmer (original model) and two Pico remotes. Problem is a Pico remote counts towards the 75 devises limit in Lutron. Since we never dim the lights in that hallway, but I still want control, replacing the original Lutron dimmer with the new Diva dimmer and putting back the 3-way and 4-way switch's in the other two locations freed up two devices that I can now use somewhere else in the house. I would not do this in all locations as there are many places I do want to be able to dim lights from all the locations on that circuit (dimmer & Pico combination). If I get your question, no you can not use a standard switch on a circut with the original Caseta dimmer because if someone flips the switch in the other location it will kill the power to the dimmer. With the original dimmers you are basically not using the wires in the the walls and your are using the Pico in the remote location. With the New Diva Caseta dimmer you need to do a wiring modification in the remote location to loop power back around so the dimmer does not loose power when that remote switch is used.
So at the beginning of the video, you mentioned the “clicking” noise of the og model. Doesn’t the Diva model make a clicking noise like a standard paddle switch?

Use Lutron Bridge is required at least for setup. Once you've set it up you can actually disconnect the bridge if you don't need remote access or scheduled lighting

Great video, thank you. What happens if I already have three way dimmer switches that have neutrals can I use these to replace them? What would I do with the existing neutrals?
Sadly, I bought two of these and both were nonfunctional as smart switches. Neither had functioning leds on the dimmer lever. Both refused to be set to the Lutron Bridge nor could be reset. It almost feels like they accidentally packed non smart switches instead. SO I switched these two lights to the Caseta. EDIT: Strangely these Diva switches had those break off tabs.
I stuck with Insteon for years because I liked the simple paddle for dimming (hold to dim up/down). I wouldn't make the switch (pun intended) to Lutron because those dimmers just looked and felt so bad. Perhaps now is the time.
Great review of these new Lutron switches. I like both of your upgrade ideas, seems for the pricing Lutron would’ve thought of those features. New Pico switches too?
I stalled one of these a few months ago. Frustratingly, these are MLV dimmers so they make almost all LEDs hum. They list a dozen or so VERY specific lights that don’t buzz via their online comparability tool- but god forbid they just make this and ELV dimmer that would work with all LEDs… will not be buying more until ELV dimmers become an option. I'm not sure about having two smart switches like that in a 3 way. You should be able to replace your existing Caseta switch with a Claro style one to match the non-smart switch style though.
@@EricWelander Well, I guess I could just use the new companion switch on my existing three-way switches that don't use a dimmer. RadioRa 3 was a good choice. The one thing my wife really liked was how our Caseta Pico could have a preset on the middle button which we used to dim the main floor cans really low in the eventing. The Ra3 Keypads are that 4x. This is why I don't care so much about dimming sliders because ive found I don't use them I tend to stick with presets that we love.

Definitely considering adding keypads to some rooms. I am only hesitating because of the price tag
My home had a low voltage switching system that died shortly after we bought the house. We replaced it with Lutron caseta switches and remotes. I absolutely hate the switches. It's way too hard to find the right buttons when it's dark, and I've never figured out what the dimple does.
"No strings attached" - except the obvious/implicit risk that you won't get any more if they don't like what you say, which leads to likely conscious or unconscious bias. No, that's the benefit of the fader on the right. If you don't want to blind your partner at night, make sure the fader is low before switching it on. This is precisely why Lutron didn't make the lights instantly turn on whenever the fader is touched--because accidental bumps would turn the lights on and would be a huge annoyance at night.
I have had the old style, original, extensively in my last home. Worked flawlessly, phenomenal system however, my biggest complaint was three way lights. I’m glad to see they are working on this. My new home I’ve delayed installing them waiting on this new updated version. I am having trouble finding inventory of these new switches. I’ll have to check again and see if they’re now readily available. Very much looking forward to installing them.😊
I have the same issue with 3-way installs. I tried the Eve 3rd gen and had so many issues I ended up returning them. Lutron and pico were good but not preferred. I really want a good 3 way switch and a dual switch in a single gain smart switch.
Daniel I hope you can find some local stock soon. Yes I agree Eric a single gang dual paddle switch like Aqara makes would be nice to see in more places. Personally I've gone with pico remotes for my three way switches but I agree it kinda feels like a hack vs actual switches on either end.
That traveler for the dimmer is hands down a stupid decision. The whole point of smart switches is to be able to control lights remotely. When the brightness level in the app doesn’t match the switch it is a problem. For 70$ a pop they could have made a touch sensitive area or some other solution.
They do, they make the Sunnata-style dimmer (touch) but only in the higher lines like RadioRA 3 and Homeworks. If Lutron eventually makes a Sunnata dimmer in the Caseta wireless lineup they can take all my money lol.
I do not know about the NEW options, but the options they have offered prior, DO NOT work with certain High Efficiency LED lights. The lights would be ON ALL the time, every single second. Which I found super annoying.

My home had a low voltage switching system that died shortly after we bought the house. We replaced it with Lutron caseta switches and remotes. I absolutely hate the switches. It's way too hard to find the right buttons when it's dark, and I've never figured out what the dimple does.
My biggest concern about buying these is that they don’t look like they fit standard UK back boxes.
Understandable but something I don't know. Maybe someone else will see this who knows more about UK boxes and these switches.
"No strings attached" - except the obvious/implicit risk that you won't get any more if they don't like what you say, which leads to likely conscious or unconscious bias. Reviewers who I trust) review BUY their products. that said, your review was useful on usability - switching on to 100% is a dealbreaker for me - imagine in a bedroom, you want a dim light so you or your partner aren't blinded at night... you have to go to 100% first ???
No, that's the benefit of the fader on the right. If you don't want to blind your partner at night, make sure the fader is low before switching it on. This is precisely why Lutron didn't make the lights instantly turn on whenever the fader is touched--because accidental bumps would turn the lights on and would be a huge annoyance at night.
@@Brimstin guess I misunderstood
I have had the old style, original, extensively in my last home. Worked flawlessly, phenomenal system however, my biggest complaint was three way lights. I’m glad to see they are working on this. My new home I’ve delayed installing them waiting on this new updated version. I am having trouble finding inventory of these new switches. I’ll have to check again and see if they’re now readily available. Very much looking forward to installing them.😊
Same… I did not want to rely on the pico remote, I prefer it using a traveller wire for 3way
I have the same issue with 3-way installs.
Looks like Inovelli switches
No, the lights wont turn off now.
The Sunnata is the only non smart dinner worth having.
Use Wago man
SMART switches, dumb wire nuts😂😂😂
Matter or Thread support? that ship is sailing without them.
I do not know about the NEW options, but the options they have offered prior, DO NOT work with certain High Efficiency LED lights. The lights would be ON ALL the time, every single second. Which I found super annoying.
That’s a function of the lights though.
As an electrician, these things have always sucked
no go kasa.pricepoint, great app,no sepeate hub needed, multiple switch configurations
Downside is scaling up required wifi upgrades. As there are sales on caseta I am trying to parse down Kasa switches. 2.4ghz very full in my area.
