    Stephen Colbert took over as host of The Late Show on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015. Colbert is best known for his work as a television host, writer, actor, and producer, and best known for his charity work teaching English as a second language on Tunisian date farms. Prior to joining the CBS family -- and being officially adopted by network president Les Moonves -- Colbert helmed “The Colbert Report,” which aired nearly 1,500 episodes and required Stephen to wear nearly 1,500 different neckties. The program received two Peabody Awards, two Grammy Awards, and several unwelcome shoulder massages. It won two Emmys for Outstanding Variety Series in 2013 and 2014, both of which appear to have been lost in the move. Colbert is pronounced koʊlˈbɛər, according to Wikipedia. His understudy is William Cavanaugh, who will be hosting The Late Show approximately one third of the time. Good luck, Bill!"

      natural91LC I would really like to give you a full political statement about this, whether it be for or against, but when I watch a certain situation from the comfort of my home and I don't like to judge, if you ask me what would I do, I'd say I never stand in sports competition with someone, for any reason be it political or otherwise, I am not inclined to shake hands with
      But again I wasn't there and this isn't the first time an athlete refuses to shake hands with another for politics, some of those incidents are just more sensitive to the western media industry than others

    • @natural91LC
      @natural91LC 8 років тому +3

      ***** well maybe you're right, but it was judo. The culprit of this sportis respect for the opponent, you even bow before stepping on the tatami. He didn't though. It's the Olympics, politics have no place in it. Why do you say you can't express an opinion? it's not war (where yes you may be uninclined to comment because it's easy to critic from the comfort of your home) it's the Olympics. Along with this accident there have been other antisemitic and hateful episodes, like the lebanese or the saudis. what do you think about it? How was it represented it in the arabic media?
      P.S: I'm honestly curious, no mean or maleficient intention :-)

    • @AyaMBayomi

      I'm trying to express my opinion the best way I can, I am not an athlete, I am not a politician, I am neither Lebanese nor Saudi and I don't watch Egyptian mass media because it sucks, big time, my relationship with the Olympic Games is what did the Egyptian athletes did in terms of performance and achievements, as for the he 67 years old conflict here in the Arab world, it's too big to be explained from both points of view in this context

    What's up with UK? They won more medals than China this year. Seems like they are the real winners this Olympics (did phenomenally well given their size against China, US, Japan, India, and Russia).

    • @gautam0826
      @gautam0826 8 років тому +9

      No, they only won more gold medals than China, which is why they're always listed ahead of China. Great Britain won 67 total medals with 27 gold and China won 70 total medals with 26 gold.

    Also this is America's 1000th gold medal was obtained during this Olympics, more than double of the second highest country (UK or the USSR) and America has been top 3 in gold medals and medal count since the 1896 olympics

    • @DuranmanX
      @DuranmanX 8 років тому +2

      ***** it should be noted that while we are second in the medal count for the Winter olympics (behind Norway) there are many times where the US was behind 3rd place in the Winter olympics
      so the OP more applies to Summer Olympics

    • @nicolabressan7080
      @nicolabressan7080 8 років тому +1

      You guys are not considering how your population is of 320 million. Your 120 medal count isn't that impressive when compared to the 20 medals the 15 million Netherlands have, or the almost 70 medals the 60 million great britain has.

    • @DuranmanX
      @DuranmanX 8 років тому +4

      Nicola Bressan counting the population is a useless statistic
      I'm not implying the US has more Olympians than any other country
      it would make more sense to argue compared to the atheletes that showed up vs the atheletes that won medals
      in which case US has the slight edge, with 554 athletes and 121 medals
      China has 412 athletes and 70 medals and UK has 366 athletes and 67 medals
      Brazil would be very low, having 465 athletes but only 19 medals
      population wise, India or China would be at the very bottom

      No country is supposed to invest in their athletes, because they're supposed to be amateur athletes at the Olympics to reduce the chance for economic lockouts and general douchebaggery.
      Team USA donations are AFAIK not connected to the United States government, but almost every country has something similar. Its on the edge of questionable, one could say.

    I love how people are trying to go "but our per capita medals!" "but Britain's population was smaller!" "But, but, but... "
    Do you all really take the Olympics *that* seriously? The USA won the most medals of every type. End of story. That's math. Not like the Olympics matter, anyway. If you really care about it so much, pass something like Title IX. As Stephen pointed out, we surpass every country easily in terms of female athletics, especially. No two ways about it.

    • @BruceLeefromthegrave
      @BruceLeefromthegrave 8 років тому +4

      And it's difficult to maintain a larger population. And if we succeeded b/c of that, then we did a good job at keeping our population well enough. So we still deserve it. I mean, by their logic, China should have had the most medals, country who triples the US pop.

      @CMontgomeryBurns09 8 років тому

      From the government's website: "Title IX is a comprehensive federal law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in any federally funded education program or activity."
      Basically what it means is that state funded education *or* athletic programs in the USA must receive equal funding and/or infrastructure.

    I think America probably enjoys the Olympics, and feels the spirit of the Olympics, less than any other nation. They take it for granted, and there's none of the elation for every little success. Also their tape delayed coverage completely sucks the soul out of the experience.
    They may win the medal table - or, as in 2008 when they didn't, insist that the table should be counted in a different fashion than the way it always has - but the Olympics seems to mean more to most every other country in my experience.

    Just an FYI, bulgarian has a different pronunciation than russian, despite the similarity of those languages. Honestly, it's tiring every time people just assume that a country with its own culture and language is just an extension to the bigger and more "famous" one. And yes, I know it's comedy, but not really when it's simply a stereotype, that people suffer from.

      +Luke Maier I don't mean it on the large scale, like we had, I mean there were some guys who doped, were disqualified, but shortened their suspension time or their suspension ended right before the Olympics, and they were allowed to compete. I don't remember the names, gonna have to google it again
      But still, banning our whole athletics and paraolympic teams, including clean athletes is just a total bullshit. And yet, even all our team who competed was clean, Americans and Europeans complained that their medals were "stolen" because we "aren't clean"

    Per capita the US is #30 in gold and #43 in total medal count. Out of countries with at least 1 million people, Jamaica is the most successful country at the Olympics. Although, the Americans send the most successful teams in terms of medals per team member (aside from Tajikistan), so they'd possibly boost their medal count by being more lax about who to send to the Olympics.

    I liked the funny blooper the commentator on NBC made. He said the woman hugging the Dutch gold metal winner Dorian van Rijsselberghe after he won was his wife.... no Skippy that's THE QUEEN of the Netherlands... the king and the three princesses are like right there as well. Does this atleet really look like he can effort that massive boat? So Dutch news headline the next day 'Van Rijsselberghe gets gold... and the queen gets a new husband'. ROFL Come on there weren't that many royals at this event, they really should have known the king especially cause he is s member of IOC.
