This project was doomed from the moment the imagery of what Akon envisioned to be his ideal African city was revealed. This is a top-down vanity project. There's no sense of community to be seen in the garish, comic book architecture. It's a city designed like an amusement park, rather than a place to call home--unless you're an egomaniacal entertainment mogul with scant understanding of economics.

I will never forget when Akon, during an interview, said that China had given a 1 billion dollar loan to build the solar city. But instead of saying "the organization now has a lot of money to buy the equipment" he said "I have one billion dollars, I'm rich!!". I Freudian slip that very few people (if any) caught.

Saying that Mpesa is used in the whole of Africa is also untrue. Mpesa is only available in Kenya, one of 52 countries in Africa.

I live in South Africa and have heard these pie in the sky visions if state of the art "cities" before. I always think "I believe it when I see it." Some are great at talking and dreaming, not so much at creating and building.
I'm in construction management in America where we have large amounts of concrete plants and metal supply companies. Aint no way in a million years you can build all those large structures in 4 years. It took 12 hour days 6 days a week with night crews for pours and finish work, just to build a 19 story mid rise in 16 months. Aint no way brother.
It be done it would just require more man power to build it quicker.
The question to Akon is, how many construction workers will work to build the city in 4 years? Depending on the number given, im sure he’d spill the beans 🫘 quick

If I start a city, it would be a city with classical architecture, great public transportation, great walkability, and more of a rebuilding of an abandoned city than a new city. Low cost of living, and an emphasis on happiness, not on economic growth.

OK, I'm no architect, nor am I an infrastructure expert, but right off the bat looking at this, I can see that by the time the ambulance arrives in the "village district" from the "health district", the man would have already been dead. The same is with the fire department district. You can't divide all things by districts and shove them together. That's horrible! Im an architect student and the designs for Akon City make no sense, the buildings are wayyyy too "advanced" to be able to be supplied by electricity or even utilities. So much so I wonder how the interior would even work. Its so unrealistic and flat out laughable
