I just wanted to thank you for this. I listened to it before going to bed the other night and was just awestruck how you expanded on an already georgous melody, and somehow made it even more beautiful. Kudos.
I know this is something I say alot but I still gotta say it. You are very talented and this sounds fantastic. The piano is relaxing, the beat is very late 70s feeling and I know I will enjoy everything you post in the future. Stay safe man and may God bless you and your family. Keep up the amazing work.
Buen trabajo y exitos
Thanks! I think the artists who've influenced my overall style and compositions the most so far are Joe Sample, Jason Rebello, Stevie Wonder, Vulfpeck, Snarky Puppy, Allen Hinds, Yellowjackets, and Mezzoforte (no shame in smooth jazz lol). In terms of improv, I've got a lot of blues influence from the boogie woogie that I played a LOT when I was younger e.g. Albert Ammons, Meade Lux Lewis and also Oscar Peterson, but in the last few years I've been taking a lot of influence from the great jazz pianists, particularly Herbie Hancock, Bud Powell, Kenny Barron, and Bill Evans. My favourite artists (genres aside) that I listen to the most at the moment include Kiefer, Yousef Dayes, Robert Glasper, Tom Misch, Kris Bowers, Butcher Brown, Mac Demarco, Flyte, Sufjan Stevens, John Mayer, Nick Drake. :)
Jeroen! Thanks so much :) Depends what mood I'm in but yeah recently I've been really liking the freedom of looping, you're not tied down to a structure so it allows you to improvise the piece as a whole not just improvise on top of a prestructured composition which sometimes feels a little restricted. Really enjoy being able to just create something from scratch on the spot. Hope you are well dude!
Thanks Thomas! Might be hard to explain in a comment but I'll give it a go... There are 3 loops in this video, drums, rhodes and bass. For each of these I just set up a midi track in Ableton with a blank midi clip of the desired length, with the "loop" button clicked in each of the clips. Then I set up 3 other corresponding audio tracks receiving midi from the midi tracks, with plugins on to create the sounds. E.g. for the drums I created a midi track with a blank midi clip of length 4 bars and clicked the loop button within the clip. I then created a separate audio track with a drum plugin on it set to receive midi data from the midi track. I do an analogous thing for the rhodes and bass (but these have 8 bar loops instead of 4). The only difference with the bass is that I'm using a hardware synth rather than a plugin to create the sound. So the midi track is set to send midi data to the midi-out on my Clarett interface, which is hooked up to the Behringer model D bass synth. Then on the separate audio track I'm recording the audio from the model D. Now that's all set up I select which keyboards I want to use to record each midi loop with. In this video I selected the drum loop to be receiving midi data from the korg grandstage, the rhodes to be receiving midi data from the split on the korg grandstage (midi channel 2), and the bass to be receiving midi data from the Behringer Deepmind 12. Then I arm all the audio tracks to record, hit the global record and clip record buttons, and start looping! I can select which sounds I'm recording by using the launchpad to arm or disarm each midi track (i.e. to start or stop recording on different tracks). I can also use the launchpad to mute different tracks when I want to as I do at the end of the video. Hope that makes some sense!
Jazz version of 3am???? Thank you. Jazz guy at heart and beginner stages of learning the piano, which is my life goal.
Awesome life goal - stick at it! I teach skype/zoom lessons if you're interested too
I feel like the song is already jazz, this guy just has a different style to someone like Denis

Beautiful! How do I send you a bass cover I did with this ??
This is so awesome! Didn't know you were into looping, do you find it more fun than recording parts separately?

Awesome! Could you possibly explain your looping setup?
Thanks Thomas! Might be hard to explain in a comment but I'll give it a go...

When you first started it almost sounded like 50 ways to leave your lover. LOL
haha what a great tune!
Somewhere near the middle, i heard "I Can't Help It" by Michael Jackson 😅
Great track... is the bass from Model D? of DM12 ?
I think it was the model D!
awesome! is that a behringer model d in the middle?
Yeee I love it! I'm using it for the bass sound in this
Robert Dimbleby nice, looking forward to hearing more from it!
Also a nice bass sound on the Deepmind...which patch is it ?
Thanks, it's one I made to try and sound similar to the model D
Do you prefer the Grandstage sounds to the Juno?
Also amazing video bud!
Thanks! Yeah I definitely prefer the grandstage sounds. More detail in there, although the Roland Juno sounds are not bad at all!
roland juno ds 88 over yamaha p125?
If piano is your main sound, then I would probably go for the Yamaha.
Can I buy this midi file?
Yeah sure! shoot me a message on my contact form dimble.by/contact
what are the chords?
I’ve been searching for the same thing
The piano sound comes from Pianoteq ? if yes, which instrument from the pianoteq?
+ How many keyboards do you have? :)
It's actually the upright piano sound in the Korg Grandstage. One of my favourite patches from the keyboard!
