Finally found instructions of how to maintain control of the knot with proper finger placement and use. All other vids show turning loose of knot and wagging braid around in the air hoping it lays where you let go of it. I use this knot and some ties end up better than others. I'm sure this lesson will help get it right each time. Thanks
This has been my go to leader to braid knot for the past 3 years. I notice that the more pressure fish put on it the tighter it the knot becomes. So far it has not failed me.
I've used the Albright knot for several years now. Last year I was convinced to try the FG knot as a better connection for mono to braid. So I learned to tie the FG knot well and used it for a couple of months. It was a pain in the butt to tie on the water while floating our local rivers and tended to unravel, although it never failed. I have my own version of an Albright knot that has never failed me and it is as slim as the FG knot so it slides through my guides effortlessly. I'll take the Albright knot any day for ease of tying and reliability. Good video.
Thank you for watching and the great comment. I two feel the same way about both knots and went with the Modified Albright for ease of tying in the filed. The FG and albright seem to have the thinnest profiles of all the line joining knots and when casting lures all day you need that.
Fishing POV ... I had used this version of the Albright when I first started using braid and knew it as the Alberto knot. It never failed me. I just kept experimenting till I came up with a version of the original Albright that won't slip and is more reliable than the original. Also it is a very small diameter knot. Thanks again for sharing and I wish I had a way to share the version I came up with, I think you'd like it.
Fishing POV ... Let me see what I can do. I will need to get some heavier line for illustration purposes so it will show up on video. You already know the mechanics of the Albright so you would find it simple to tie. The only advantage over the Alberto version is the slimmer diameter because they're both reliable strong knots tied properly and I can see that you understand how a given knot is supposed to come together, which is critical with any knot.
Appreciate this is 8 years old but many thanks for this. I struggle with some of these line joining knots but this one I followed as per your video and it worked a treat first time. All the best 👍🏻
I guess nothing, I was thinking the same. Maybe depends where you are from. I do 8 loops back and forth and finish with 4-5 loops inside the original big loop.
I love the way you explain everything step by step and clearly. I've used this knot and found it to be very strong. Thank you, looking forward to your next video.
I use to use direct braid for almost everything for years, until I learned how to do this. Now I only use direct braid for top water only. Good demonstration BH, thumbs up.
Hey BassHole, thx a lot for this brilliant video. Spoken loud and clear and with subtitles - perfect for me as a german newbee in fishing knots. I had to tight a monofile with a braid line, used the Modified Albright, but I was not satisfied. So I looked further for another video, found yours. And even my first try looks great with your manual. I defined the 0.35 mono as my leader line and the 0.20 braid as my main line, means the wraps were maid with the "softer" braid around the "stiffen" mono. And as I explained my knot looks very good. I think one of your best tips is to put the middle finger through the loop and hold it tight in that way! By the way I wraped 7 times each direction ;-)
Thanks! Finally a video without "music" straight to the point! And a knot we can actually see how to tie it. Okay, I try it now, while watching again... Thank you, thank you!! First try, perfect!! You need to do more stuff like this! Maybe you have, I subscribe now because you didn't use that nerve racking "music" either!
Taka Yama Thanks for watching and thanks for subscribing I’m glad you like the video that was my intention to make something simple but yet something that everyone can see very well.
Well done instructional video!! I use this knot exclusively to join 3# Nanofil mainline to 5x tippet when throwing 1/8th oz jigs on spinning gear for rainbows or brown trout. Tip.. Add a tiny drop of super glue to the knot to weld lines together. No chance of Nano slipping, plus it protects the knot as it goes through the rod guides. Nanofil is hard to work with and expensive but worth every penny, IMHO when throwing light jigs in tailwater current and you don't want the water force to bow your line, reducing your feel.
부부어부 - Kayak Fishing Couple Thank you for the compliment, sorry I personally don’t use glue ,friends have in the past but I’m not sure you’d have to do a little search online and testing yourself thanks for watching and good luck out there.
thanks. what do you think about reversing the role of lines. ie making loop with braid/main line. I feel that way less resistant part of knot end face the guides hence smoother casting
Michael Soileau thank you sir, with a little practice and knowledge on where to hold your fingers and the line it makes it pretty easy. Glad it helped, if you get a chance check out some of my other knot vids.
I like it. Going to try it. The double uni works well on my salt outfits but getting back into freshwater and the double uni isn’t cutting it. Breaking off lures at the connection because they’re weakened when I forget and rip it through the guides. And then cast it back through. No bueno. thanks!
i leaf a little from the braid line left twist it around and cleu it with super clue that i see it,s so smooth and the rest i did the same.! thank u for this info,.!!
@@FishingPOV i always check the knot on the head line and for me it,s extreme important because i use a feeder system with small rod eyes. this knot is so small when i make it with braid line it,s the best way !
Patrick Duncan Jr. I think it depends on where you grew up and who taught you and what they learned what it was called. Great knot though thanks for watching
ever have any problems with the thicker mono breaking while sinching it up?... possibility I used to many wraps? or not enough spit?? idk t happened to me while tying 65lb braid to a 40lb mono leader
Jon Evans I've never had issues but I've not tried 65 to 40 either. Take your time cinching it up. And definitely make sure that you use enough spit. Let me know how it goes.
I have just received my new shock leader and I've tried 2 knots on here and have failed around 5 times, I will do this knot tomorrow ( as I've put my stuff away ) cos it is the best explained knot I've seen, Thank You
Depends if I’m bass fishing I try to use fluorocarbon because it’s almost clear in the water but if you’re fish dirty water or vegetation I’d say try to match the color the best you can. Thanks for watching.
I've been viewing all the Modified Albright Knot tying videos on youtube and you have the best tips for finger control of all I've seen so far. This is the one I would use to guide me until I could do it from memory. However, I don't think putting line in your mouth is a good idea as the braid, at least, will have been in lake water and could have some weird germs on it. I think carrying a small bottle of silicone spray might be a good idea. We have room for all those other sprays we need so why not some silicone? Or you could substitute fish attractant if you wanted to keep things a little simpler.
Troy Frazier I don’t fly fish, I don’t wanna give you bad info but I would say you would tie this backwards if that’s what you mean. I would say make the wraps with the smaller diameter Line which is most likely the leader material. Hope this helps let me know what ends up working best.
Tried it to connect my 8lb braid to 8lb flouro. The flouro keeps snapping at the knot. My leader and lure flew off when i casted after like the 50th cast. Switched back to double uni, no issues with that.
@@FishingPOV actually i just did it again on my heavier rod to 15lb test and it holds very strong! I think it works better for heavier line rather than lighter line.
@@chargerfish1 ultra light fishing is popular in Bali and I had the same problem with very light monofilament line (2 to 6lb). I had the same problem with a double uni. But have never had a problem with heavier lines 12lb and up. Patrick Govers I say yes as well as all knots you should be careful when cinching them up because of Line burn that will weaken the line. My normal use for this knot is 20 to 65lbs braid and a 20lbs fluorocarbon leader and for top water a 15 to 20lbs leader of mono.
Akira Ichikawa look up "knot wars". They tested a lot of knots against each other with a strain recording machine. They tested each knot with mono, braid and fluoro.

Sean Baker It’s personal preference mostly but I’ve used both knots and found once you’re comfortable with tying the Modified Albright knot that it’s a much easier not to tie in the field. And I also feel it goes through the guides much smoother as well. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for watching and the comment, I’ve had zero issues with the knot and the rod eyes.although I have had it break off with extended use I suggest retying the knot each outing sometimes more depending on how many times you’re casting.

Great job. Thanks.
Ray Henderson thanks you and thanks for watching good luck out there.
Interesting video!
***** It's my favorite knot!👍
Thanks this really helped
Kyle Laxton glad it helped thanks for watching
Can anybody tell me why the uni knot would not be just as effective? I feel like it's also an easier knot and faster to tie
Sean Baker It’s personal preference mostly but I’ve used both knots and found once you’re comfortable with tying the Modified Albright knot that it’s a much easier not to tie in the field. And I also feel it goes through the guides much smoother as well. Thanks for watching.
Looks like an Alberto knot to me
Thanks for sharing
Southern Fisherman thanks for watching, good luck.
It looks strong enough, but it's also a thick knot. It maybe can spit the ceramics of the rod. I would say be carefuly with that knot.Salutes.
Thanks for watching and the comment, I’ve had zero issues with the knot and the rod eyes.although I have had it break off with extended use I suggest retying the knot each outing sometimes more depending on how many times you’re casting.
this is what i'm looking for
Ferdion Prananta thanks for watching
Alberto ?
Fon Jet modified Albright where I’m from, they are the same knot.
