Modified Albright Knot

- This video shows step by step how to tie the Modified Albright Knot.
The Modified Albright Knot after testing and researching other line to line knots has come out on top for me. It’s a fairly easy knot to tie on the fly or a windy day on the water, and after testing it I felt it was extremely strong. My recommendation for braid to leader material and for use when using backer line to fill a reel. This Knot is also known as the Alberto Knot, a lot of knots have different names depending on who taught you and or where you come from.

This has been my go to leader to braid knot for the past 3 years. I notice that the more pressure fish put on it the tighter it the knot becomes. So far it has not failed me.
John Mortensen thanks for watching
Finally found instructions of how to maintain control of the knot with proper finger placement and use. All other vids show turning loose of knot and wagging braid around in the air hoping it lays where you let go of it. I use this knot and some ties end up better than others. I'm sure this lesson will help get it right each time. Thanks
Thanks for watching and good luck.
Me too. Putting the ring finger through the loop makes it so much simpler. Thanks.
I've used the Albright knot for several years now. Last year I was convinced to try the FG knot as a better connection for mono to braid. So I learned to tie the FG knot well and used it for a couple of months. It was a pain in the butt to tie on the water while floating our local rivers and tended to unravel, although it never failed. I have my own version of an Albright knot that has never failed me and it is as slim as the FG knot so it slides through my guides effortlessly. I'll take the Albright knot any day for ease of tying and reliability. Good video.
Thank you for watching and the great comment. I two feel the same way about both knots and went with the Modified Albright for ease of tying in the filed. The FG and albright seem to have the thinnest profiles of all the line joining knots and when casting lures all day you need that.
Fishing POV ... I had used this version of the Albright when I first started using braid and knew it as the Alberto knot. It never failed me. I just kept experimenting till I came up with a version of the original Albright that won't slip and is more reliable than the original. Also it is a very small diameter knot. Thanks again for sharing and I wish I had a way to share the version I came up with, I think you'd like it.
Doug Lynch record it with a smart phone and you can share it with me on FB or G+ you can find me at Shane Kreuscher
Fishing POV ... Let me see what I can do. I will need to get some heavier line for illustration purposes so it will show up on video. You already know the mechanics of the Albright so you would find it simple to tie. The only advantage over the Alberto version is the slimmer diameter because they're both reliable strong knots tied properly and I can see that you understand how a given knot is supposed to come together, which is critical with any knot.
Doug Lynch cool hope you can get something together I’m definitely interested.
Every other video it kept pulling right out. Your video worked thank you
You’re welcome thanks for watching.
Excellent example of step-by-step instructions . . . something seldom seen in UA-cam.
David Hailey I agree and that’s why I made all my knot videos. Thank you for watching and leaving a comment I appreciate it.
I use to use direct braid for almost everything for years, until I learned how to do this. Now I only use direct braid for top water only. Good demonstration BH, thumbs up.
Perfectly clear demo. Excellent knot. I use it ALL the time for fluke, striped bass, bluefish....NEVER failed yet.
Ronald Ventola Thank you and thanks for watching
I love the way you explain everything step by step and clearly. I've used this knot and found it to be very strong. Thank you, looking forward to your next video.
You’re welcome I do have a handful of knot videos already posted. Thanks for watching and I hope you can find some of the others useful.
This became my favorite knot. Thanks!
You’re welcome, thanks for watching.
Excellent ! Handled my 43 lb Striper without an issue. Thanks - Dan
spoolingaround great fish brother
Hey that was a great video. I always thought that knot was to complicated but your video made it simple. Thanks.
Michael Soileau thank you sir, with a little practice and knowledge on where to hold your fingers and the line it makes it pretty easy. Glad it helped, if you get a chance check out some of my other knot vids.
Will do!
Thanks! Finally a video without "music" straight to the point! And a knot we can actually see how to tie it. Okay, I try it now, while watching again... Thank you, thank you!! First try, perfect!! You need to do more stuff like this! Maybe you have, I subscribe now because you didn't use that nerve racking "music" either!
Taka Yama Thanks for watching and thanks for subscribing I’m glad you like the video that was my intention to make something simple but yet something that everyone can see very well.
Great video and great knot. Passes through the guide easy and didnt break or giveway even once all weekend.
Dustin Smith thank you I feel the same way about this knot. I field tested a bunch before I decided on the one I would use a recommend. Tight lines.
Well done instructional video!! I use this knot exclusively to join 3# Nanofil mainline to 5x tippet when throwing 1/8th oz jigs on spinning gear for rainbows or brown trout. Tip.. Add a tiny drop of super glue to the knot to weld lines together. No chance of Nano slipping, plus it protects the knot as it goes through the rod guides. Nanofil is hard to work with and expensive but worth every penny, IMHO when throwing light jigs in tailwater current and you don't want the water force to bow your line, reducing your feel.
Mike Arnett thank you and thanks for watching
Hey BassHole, thx a lot for this brilliant video. Spoken loud and clear and with subtitles - perfect for me as a german newbee in fishing knots.
I had to tight a monofile with a braid line, used the Modified Albright, but I was not satisfied. So I looked further for another video, found yours. And even my first try looks great with your manual. I defined the 0.35 mono as my leader line and the 0.20 braid as my main line, means the wraps were maid with the "softer" braid around the "stiffen" mono. And as I explained my knot looks very good. I think one of your best tips is to put the middle finger through the loop and hold it tight in that way!
By the way I wraped 7 times each direction ;-)
Blockout nice I’m glad you like the video and are happy with the outcome of your knot good luck and thanks for watching.
Excellent …….well you just made that look so easy to follow thank you mate
peter nohlmans you’re welcome thanks for watching.
Excellent excellent. Well done. Thank you. I've book marked this video!
RS Marett thank you my friend.
This was so helpful, Thank you for putting this out there!
Dan Stephens thanks for watching
Well done!
Thank you this was helpful before this I watched 7 videos and none of them helped but this one did.
Eli Strickland you’re welcome thanks for watching
I wasn't even in looking for this video so i just watched out of curiosity i don't regret it.
Yozakame Thanks for watching
thanks. what do you think about reversing the role of lines. ie making loop with braid/main line. I feel that way less resistant part of knot end face the guides hence smoother casting
irockrock44 I haven’t tried it that way so I don’t know. Let me know how it works if you try it, thanks for watching.
Best tutorial I've seen
Thank you Steve I appreciate it.
Thanks..Well explained. I'm "all fingers and thumbs" but with practice. I think I'll get it.
Ralph Connell thanks for watching i'm glad this helped. Once you get the hang of it it's a pretty easy knot to tie.
Brilliant knot, thanks for sharing.
Your welcome thanks for watching.
Super good instructional video. Thanks man!
terrell knight Thanks for watching and good luck
This allows for a really flush cut of the tag ends. Nice.
TQ Sir.
This knot look very simple n easy to follow.
Tqvm.
Thanks for watching. Good luck.
It's my favorite knot!
Bruno Peressi thanks for watching
i leaf a little from the braid line left twist it around and cleu it with super clue that i see it,s so smooth and the rest i did the same.! thank u for this info,.!!
A3iaan autlaw you’re welcome thanks for watching
@@FishingPOV i always check the knot on the head line and for me it,s extreme important because i use a feeder system with small rod eyes. this knot is so small when i make it with braid line it,s the best way !
Thanks! Great video!
dacoelec your welcome thanks for watching
a good way to tie greetings new friends from Indonesia 🇮🇩🙏🙏🤝🤝🤝
Thank you and thanks for watching
Helpful..thanks..Well explained.
Ralph Connell thank you glad it helped.
also great nknot for crochet :) thank you!
How many times i wrap the line down and up?I use PE 0.4 braid and 14-18mm flluoro for my LRF fishing.
Panos Loukas You’ll have to experiment but I would say eight up and eight down would be a good place to start good luck and thanks for watching.
Great job. Thanks.
Ray Henderson thanks you and thanks for watching good luck out there.
Super easy thanks
Rola Torres you’re welcome thanks for watching
ever have any problems with the thicker mono breaking while sinching it up?... possibility I used to many wraps? or not enough spit?? idk t happened to me while tying 65lb braid to a 40lb mono leader
Jon Evans I've never had issues but I've not tried 65 to 40 either. Take your time cinching it up. And definitely make sure that you use enough spit. Let me know how it goes.
Will do thank u
Jon Evans no problem thanks for watching.
I have just received my new shock leader and I've tried 2 knots on here and have failed around 5 times, I will do this knot tomorrow ( as I've put my stuff away ) cos it is the best explained knot I've seen, Thank You
Bass Hole, no, Thank You :)
Bass Hole, First time and straight away, Thank You a Lot
Great demo I definitely prefer this over fg Albright hasn't slipped yet
Vinfish 46 thanks for watching
will this pass through guides? Looks very thick
i_fish I use it all the time and 30lbs braid to 15lbs Fluorocarbon goes through micro eyes just fine
Nice video my friend ! Flysofishing
The best Modified Albright Knot instruction video.
You mentioned using a fishing line glue. Do you have any recommendations on which glue to use?
부부어부 - Kayak Fishing Couple Thank you for the compliment, sorry I personally don’t use glue ,friends have in the past but I’m not sure you’d have to do a little search online and testing yourself thanks for watching and good luck out there.
I like it. Going to try it. The double uni works well on my salt outfits but getting back into freshwater and the double uni isn’t cutting it. Breaking off lures at the connection because they’re weakened when I forget and rip it through the guides. And then cast it back through. No bueno. thanks!
Good luck I hope it works out for you, I use this knot even with micro eyes and it does well. Thanks for watching.
I use this line on everything best knot hands down
Thanks for watching, no doubt its worked great for me.
Thanks this really helped
Kyle Laxton glad it helped thanks for watching
Thanks For Tutorial ... Top ..👍🏻
Thanks for watching
Best knot, and easy to tie
Thanks for watching
Thanks 👍🎣
Thanks for sharing
Southern Fisherman thanks for watching, good luck.
is really good, i think u should add an overhand knot in the end on the main line in case the leder comes out of the loop, it close everything!
thank you …. BASSHOLE …...that makes thing easy to tying braid to mono leaders
peter nohlmans glad it helps thanks for watching
Simple is the best!
Masanari Aizawa thanks for watching
would the main line be the backing and the leader would be the fly line if using a fly rod?
Troy Frazier I don’t fly fish, I don’t wanna give you bad info but I would say you would tie this backwards if that’s what you mean. I would say make the wraps with the smaller diameter Line which is most likely the leader material. Hope this helps let me know what ends up working best.
Damn nice knot!
SouthJerZyFisherman thank you sir
Is this knot good for connecting braid mainline to flourocarbon shock leader ?
Joshua Wong yes, thanks for watching
Very good and so easy 👍
Thanks for watching
Wow you explained this very well. Thought this was a crazy Alberto knot? What’s the difference? Thanks for great video
Patrick Duncan Jr. I think it depends on where you grew up and who taught you and what they learned what it was called. Great knot though thanks for watching
Nice job with the description! I have been meaning to learn this one for a while! We Should hit up some bass some time on LG if your down?

I've been viewing all the Modified Albright Knot tying videos on youtube and you have the best tips for finger control of all I've seen so far. This is the one I would use to guide me until I could do it from memory. However, I don't think putting line in your mouth is a good idea as the braid, at least, will have been in lake water and could have some weird germs on it. I think carrying a small bottle of silicone spray might be a good idea. We have room for all those other sprays we need so why not some silicone? Or you could substitute fish attractant if you wanted to keep things a little simpler.
Can u shut up please
Well done. For some reason, some call this the Alberto knot when Alberto had nothing to do with it.
Only knot stronger is the FG knot that takes a lot longer to tie.
Bob Barnhill I agree but the FG is a pain to tie and I’m not Fishing salt so this knot has been great for me. Very easy to tie in the field. Thanks for watching.
Does this decrease casting it looks big
Very good vid; sharp pic and clearly explained. Let me know if you plan to go fishing in or near Brisbane in the near future, need to learn a lot more than just this knot :-)
Bert Lindsay thank you my friend, and their are more informational videos on my channel that may help from time to time.
Thanks, I got to check those out. Fishing offer still stands :-)
Bert Lindsay where is Brisbane?
Is this a good knot for lite line example 10 pound braid to 6 pound floro?
I’ve never tried it with that lite of line before.
Interesting video!
***** It's my favorite knot!👍
Nice,Thanks bro
Efraim Sandor Thanks for watching
Very nice video bud ,,,
The Bass Amateur thank you sir
Tried it to connect my 8lb braid to 8lb flouro. The flouro keeps snapping at the knot. My leader and lure flew off when i casted after like the 50th cast. Switched back to double uni, no issues with that.
Nathaniel Merrill sorry it didn’t work out for you thanks for watching.
@@FishingPOV actually i just did it again on my heavier rod to 15lb test and it holds very strong! I think it works better for heavier line rather than lighter line.
Nathaniel Merrill I agree I use 20 to 30 braid main line and 15 to 20 fluorocarbon, good luck out there.
@@chargerfish1 ultra light fishing is popular in Bali and I had the same problem with very light monofilament line (2 to 6lb). I had the same problem with a double uni. But have never had a problem with heavier lines 12lb and up. I think the problem is with lubrication... might try dish soap rather than saliva or water and be sure to moisten the line at every stage of pulling down on the knots/lines
ho provato solo 2 volte alla terza e venuto fuori un nodo bomba , grazie alla prossima
good knot'just dont go less than 1/2 pounds of the joining line.
i use 30 braid to 15 flouro.works beautiful.
GRACE G yeah, I've never used less then half. Thanks for the comment.
Have used it for joining 40-50lb mono to 130 lb mono leader before, zero problems.
Is it work on PE+Shock lead?
Smith Mason I’ve not tried that sorry. Thanks for watching.
Can I use it for shore jigging ?
Fishing Team Alonissos 2 yes I use it all the time.
Thanks!
Great explanation doesn't the improved tag go through twice or 3 times then sinch.
Not that I’m aware of. I’ll have to try it and see if it makes a difference. Thanks for watching.
this or FG knot? did anyone tested with the same line type?
Akira Ichikawa I was looking for o knot that's easy to tie in all conditions but held up as well. This one beat it out for me.
Akira Ichikawa look up "knot wars". They tested a lot of knots against each other with a strain recording machine. They tested each knot with mono, braid and fluoro.
Is there any benefit to use this over a blood knot?
I’ve used both and just like this one better i feel it’s stronger and thinner.
Thanks
this is what i'm looking for
Ferdion Prananta thanks for watching
My dad just taught me this knot and now I know what it's called 😂
Some people also call it the Alberto knot, thanks for watching
@@FishingPOV I did see that an got confused is there any differences at all ? 🤔
Looks like an Alberto knot to me
Surgeon knot is the best
Ok, good luck and thanks for watching.
Dear sir, in my experence i say that because i use FIRELINE and NANOFILL off 10 or 12 0/00 and nylon looper of 15 lbs and when bring them togehter i must be verry carfull, because the braided (fusen) line cut in too the nylon and afther a day or 2 fisching with the feeder and i used weight of 2 oz somme times the nylon breaks before the knot, i use a normel Albright, but i think sir that you are useing bigger braid and not useing fusing line, that can works verry well. Regards
Patrick Govers I say yes as well as all knots you should be careful when cinching them up because of Line burn that will weaken the line. My normal use for this knot is 20 to 65lbs braid and a 20lbs fluorocarbon leader and for top water a 15 to 20lbs leader of mono.
I’ll stick to the Albright I’ve been tying for thirty plus years thanks that one is twice as thick as the original won’t go through smaller guides
Craig Frith I use it on micro guides all the time but I’m using 30 braid and 15 fluorocarbon good luck and thanks for watching.
Fishing POV cheers mate. ( BIG FISH AND BENT RODS TO YA)
Looks just like tying the Alberto knot. What's the diff???
I guess nothing, I was thinking the same. Maybe depends where you are from. I do 8 loops back and forth and finish with 4-5 loops inside the original big loop.
Probably where you grew up what people called it
HARUS DI COBA
Which glue do you like?
Thanks
I do 12 up and 7 coming back or till I reach the opening
H M yeah I’ve done that as well. Thanks for watching.
i dont understand people. what the fuck is in this video to dislike?
291 dislikes on the video. but why??
its an amazing video
zain haseeb LOL I feel the same way my friend thanks for watching
Why is mine never seating? I can't get it to pull tight like the finished product!
The Illinois Angler be sure to pull both tag and main lines, then main lines only then tag lines only. Also this knot requires lots of lubrication to draw tight.
The Illinois Angler thanks for watching.
@@FishingPOV I finally got it. I switched the roles of my flouro and braid and used 6 wraps. Then, it seated nicely. Thanks for the good video and the reply
The Illinois Angler no problem good luck out there.
can anyone tell me, between this knot and FG knot, which one most stronger knot to fight real big fish
Sahrul Adha most salt guys use the FG knot I believe. I personally use this knot for freshwater fishing in America mostly bass, walleye, pike and musky.
Can anybody tell me why the uni knot would not be just as effective? I feel like it's also an easier knot and faster to tie
Sean Baker It’s personal preference mostly but I’ve used both knots and found once you’re comfortable with tying the Modified Albright knot that it’s a much easier not to tie in the field. And I also feel it goes through the guides much smoother as well. Thanks for watching.
Does leader line color matter ???
Depends if I’m bass fishing I try to use fluorocarbon because it’s almost clear in the water but if you’re fish dirty water or vegetation I’d say try to match the color the best you can. Thanks for watching.
awsome knot I use it all the time but be careful when using micro guides they will either get caught on the cast out or pop out the inner guides.
+Larry DeVaughn I've had the Uni-Uni knot catch on regular guides. I wouldn't trust any knot to get through micro-guides. I guess that restricts it to all braid topwater for me.
Learn the FG knot.
This is an Alberto knot... I’ve found it’s not that great for connecting larger diameter leader to main line. Glueing might solve this issue (as suggested in the video).
YT 0586 as long as it’s not to large I’ve had no issues but I mostly largemouth bass fish etc thanks for watching. And many knots have many names it all depends on who taught you and where you’re from etc.
I never have a problem with 30 lb braid main line to 20 lb flouro leader, 8 wraps back and forth with 4-5 wraps in the big loop to finish for a 2 foot leader. Catch big Stripers and Salmon all the time with no issues.
PK knot / John Collins knot?
rodandreel1 the John Collins knot looks similar but some knots have different names depending on what part of the country or world you cane from.
Clem Klepperschtinger knot.
You just tied an "Alberto Knot!"
Being here in Florida you get to know to the original history from people who originated certian fishing techniques who lived and fished Florida. Jimmy Albright was a great Keys guide back in the 50-s thru 70's who originated that knot. There was a "modified" version of Jimmy's knot, used for really light running lines from people searching for world records. Basically, they doubled over the running line and did the normal 6-7 turn Albright with it, to reduce slippage and increase breaking test. About 25yrs ago when I started fishing braids for tarpon, I did the same thing when tying braid to mono or fluorocarbon leader material, except I took the end of the dbl over'ed braid tag and ran it thru the hole 3 times before cinching it down, going thru the hole in the opposite direction. We referred to it as the "doubled modified albright knot." In all my years here in Florida, I've never seen any one referring to the Alberto tie as a modified Albright., nor have I ever seen a modified Albright tied that way. Just saying...
Today, I still use both the standard Albright and the Alberto, depending on my uses, attaching smaller mono or fluorocarbon running line to a larger fluorocarbon bite leader.
For connecting braid to 100% fluorocarbon bite leader, I use something else now.
Both of those guys are from this area. Never any confusion about it down here in Florida.
If you are looking for extreme low profile from braid to fluorocarbon, look at the simplified FG knot.
Bro you love telling people that, you did the same on my vid. Get over it, they call the fish different names in other countries. This knot is called Alberto in Europe and Allbright in USA and Australia and others I would think. Chill bro.
@@georgeanastaangler8757 It's also an Alberto knot in the U.S.A. period. Maybe in some parts of the U.S.A. they call one or the other.
😀
Hi there. Great knot. But, I think you will find the knot is know as an Alberto Knot.
Thanks for watching and yes I believe it is also called the Alberto Knot.
Isn't this the same as the Alberto knot? I'm not seeing how they are different.
Yes this is also know as the Alberto Knot depending upon who taught you and where you grew up. Thanks for watching.
