I fish mostly BFS gear and tying an FG on it is the most frustrating thing I've tried. This mod-A bright cinched up first time. Thanks!

Wow! This has been the most helpful, useful and easy understand and implement instructional fishing videos that I’ve ever watched on UA-cam. This changed dreading to re-tie a leader and a lot of aggravation into productive fishing time. Thank you so much!

I want to thank you for all the flats class education I have received from you sir, I've got a couple buddies into following you. I can't thank you enough! I've applied what I have learned just from watching your videos and applying what I have learned to my experience I already have and My First Trip Out I Was Back On Fish!!! It's been a good solid year (sad to say) that I've caught anything worthy as far as good game species. Your knowledge is nothing short of educational and accurate! I posted a couple of my catches on your Facebook thanking you. A buddy and I would love to come on a charter and see and learn First hand from a real pro fisherman. Thanks again Capt.

I tie a mean FG, but I moved to the Mod Albright and Alberto knot a few years ago, like you show for braid to leader. I did it because, aside from Inshore fishing, I started fishing for Snapper around Gag and Red Grouper and would get a number of break offs per day. I then found that the Mod Albright works wonderfully as an Inshore leader. Starting your day with a FG and then adding a new hook connection every now and again is fine. Tying five and six FG leaders a day makes no sense. Also, even the Best FG knot tie guys need to examine that leader knot at least I once per hour (if not more often). Once I tie a Mod Albright or Alberto, I never have to give the knot portion a second thought. I've had one line-to-leader failure in the past few years and that could easily be due to chafed braid. I cannot tell you how many lures went flying off into the abyss when using a perfectly good looking FG knot. And the thing is, the Mod Alberto knot is way better than, say, the Uni-to-Uni, but the benefits of the FG over the Mod Albright/Alberto is marginal. So it's higher risk with very little reward.

I've been using the FG and the non slip loop knot for a while now and yet I haven't had any type of failures I would absolutely have to agree with you about checking the FG every hour or so lol. I've learned a few little tricks with it to insure that nothing fails, but I don't like have to put gloves on when it's time to cinch the braid down on the leader. I think it's time to try this modified Albright out

I'm liking the modified Albright... I usually finish it off with a Rizzuto knot (whip finish in fly tying), but your way is much easier and looks solid... I'm definitely going to try it my next time out

Love it!! Thanks cap. I've been using the Albright for a few months now and usually it's great but many times it'll just come undone on my cast and my lure will go flying 🤬🤬🤬. It seems with just a few more wraps at the end it'll take care of that problem. Appreciate ya sir🤟💪

That is the same Loop knot I learned to tie many years ago until I ran across the canoe man's loop knot, a good friend of Captain Mel Bermann.
Both Loop knots work very well with the exception of the canoe man's tag end facing towards the lure preventing grass and any other debris attaching itself to the tag-end making it a little more streamline👍🍻
I failed to mention about the Albright knot. I used 12 ft. of 15 lb. leader with 30 lb. braid with a baitcaster on an ALX 7ft rod with micro guides.
Be careful not to blow out the Fuji guide inserts on the last three or four guides.
I use this combination bass fishing in open Water around light structure.

Great tutorial! I learned to tie the loop knot in the last year or so and absolutely love it! Definitely will add my vote to recommending it.
I’ve never have a problem with the Albright pulling through even with doing it the normal way. My issue is that the mono/fluoro tag always gives me problems casting out through the guides, I just can’t seem to get it to get the tag end cut small enough but maybe I’m not doing it right.
For me, I have better luck with the FG knot but thankfully there’s lots of good knots out there and I’m sure plenty of folks will be able to make this work for themselves after they watch this.

Hey CA thanks for the video definitely gonna try out that albrite the FG takes way too long.
Also I got a tip for you on the loop knot if you didn't know: when you stick the tag in through the loop at the end if you feed it the way your other line is coming through the tag end will end up facing the lure instead of at a 90 degree angle to the side and it makes it just a tad more weedless.
I hope you're having a good summer so far stay safe and good luck out on the water.

Really appreciate your videos CA! You mention the reason to use a knotted braid - leader connection rather than a swivel is for better lure action. I use a tiny, 35lb test, #10 Spro Power Swivel to tie leader to braid & it works beautifully, stops line twist, and to change leaders I only tie one simple uni knot. Saves braid & time, and my lures have better action with the swivel. Think fish are turned off by them? Well, thousands of people fly fishing for finicky trout use tippet rings the same size on their super thin leaders & no issues.

Doing this on my spinning setup worked great! My struggle with the Albright or a modified Albright has been on my fly fishing gear with a bigger - say a 10wt fly line - and a thicker leader, in this case 40lb.

When I tie that loop knot with smaller hooks, I like to get something inside the loop when I snug it down. It seems to keep the loop more open, rather than kinking it against the eye, giving a little more action. Casting or catching fish don't seem to kink it as bad as the snug.
When I use a heavy leader, and want a bigger loop, I put my finger in the loop to snug

As much as I’m a fan of the fg knot. The albright may be a very formidable adversary. I can throw a fg knot on a line in under 30 seconds but this may be even quicker

Awesome! Question for you: is the Albright knot suitable for heavier braid to leader connections? I’m typically running 50-65lb braid to 80lb leader when big swimbait fishing for snook in very heavy structure. I need a slender knot to pass through the smaller casting rod guides with those bigger line diameters. I’ve been an FG guy for quite some time but in the field it’s most certainly pain. Love the content as always!

I fish with 30 lb braid and 20 lb mono on a bait caster. The total diameter for me is an issue as I often am using a bait caster. I believe the FG knot is better. For spin casters the Alberto is probably fine. Just say’n. Also, do you switch out your treble hooks of in-line?

  • @tylerjonesfishing

Those final 3 twists around the main line were was what I was missing. Had a couple knots fail and moved away from using the knot even though I had caught plenty of fish on it, now I’m going to revisit it, missed the easy casting through the guides it provides.

I always read that beginning and ending strands should come out of the loop in the same direction for the Albright knot. In this example, the beginning strand goes through the loop from "bottom to top", so ideally the ending strand should be finished by going through the loop from "top to bottom". However, you finish it by going from "bottom to top". Does this even matter? Ironically, I've seen images with the Albright knot finished both the "wrong" way and the "right" way, which is weird since many instructions heavily emphasize that the beginning and ending strands should come out of the loop in the same direction. Obviously, the way C.A. does it has worked well for him. Can any knot nerds chime in on the importance (if any) of the beginning and ending strands going through the loop in the same direction?

Would love to see a breaking strength comparison to the other knots you mentioned and also the popular ones. Let’s back up the claims with some hard data? Trying to follow the procedure against your gray shirt was almost impossible, how about a black shirt/ background and a stationary point so the camera can focus… That was really difficult to see!
Canoeman knot👍🏻seconds to tie and no trimming!
    Thanks !🐟
