- I discovered this song at the Imperial War Museum and loved it since o.o
Wish me luck as you wave me goodbye
Cheerio, here I go, on my way
Wish me luck as you wave me goodbye
Not a tear, but a cheer, make it gay
Give me a smile I can keep all the while
In my heart while I'm away
Till we meet once again, you and I
Wish me luck as you wave me goodbye
Wish me luck as you wave me goodbye
Cheerio, here I go on my way
Wish me luck as you wave me goodbye
Not a tear, but a cheer, make it gay
Give me a smile I can keep all the while
In my heart while I'm away
Till we meet once again, you and I
Wish me luck as you wave me goodbye...
Cheerio, here I go, on my way
Wish me luck as you wave me goodbye
Not a tear, but a cheer, make it gay
Give me a smile I can keep all the while
In my heart while I'm away
Till we meet once again you and I
Wish me luck as you wave me goodbye...

I remember hearing this song in an old wartime move,1940 or thereabouts. It was sung by Gracie Fields as a heavily loaded troopship was just shoving off from the jetty. Very moving.
Beautiful and cheerful ... Gracie Fields, wonderful singer xx
This song just made me smile, haha. :) I know it's a 'goodbye'-kind of song, but the other main words got me thinking about life, and my family and friends. They are what keep me smiling.
It was about the soldiers going off to war
My mama used to sing this around the house. ❣️❣️
I was looking for this song for many years I am now 76 years old This song was sang by British soldiers when they in Singapore before the surrender to Japan I love this song
At least 80% of them died of starvation and overwork, my great uncle was lucky, he got shot by the japs as an example. I love the song too, just not for the same reasons

My grandad loves Gracie Fields
Wonderful!
Brilliant
My school gave me this song for our farewell
When the Uganda was coming back unexpectedly after being requisitioned as a hospital ship for the Falklands war. The kids on board were singing this. At the time, thought wouldn't like to be an Argie squaddie facing those kids
i used to have a gramophone till gracie blessed my sound box with her high piched tone god bless the old dear :-)
I'm going out to this too.
My funeral song
They made me sing this on my graduation from kindergarten
2:39 - I can't help noticing that the locomotive whistling is a GWR (Great Western Railway) engine of some description.
I think this is the only song I can actually sing due to her tone. YES!
It's a war song for me.
Say goodnight Gracie.
This played at my grandad funneral
Not a fake...I have the original 78!
Love to hear Gracie's soprano voice.
AND she was totally untrained.. With training she could have set alight the world's operatic concert platforms but she didn't want to.
She were "Our Gracie" said wi' a north country accent..
"Were" is the north country language-remnant of the invading Anglo Saxon.."War"
2020, March 29,Bombay, during the Corona Virus epidemic.
Lock down.
I'm here after watching the documentary "The World at War"
Give me a pie I can eat all the time
In my mouth while I'm eating
No place for working class heroines in Hollywood.
There's the contrast
Sung about the war and lived on the isle of Capri
Anthony McDermott get yer facts straight, Gracie did as much for the troops as Vera Lynn.
