The rise and fall of Flight Sim World｜Drawyah

- Last week marked one year since the closure of Dovetail Games Flight Sim World. After a very strong start, everything seemingly collapsed for Dovetail Games and less than a year after release, saw the whole platform come to an end.
Today I look back at the platform to see what went wrong, and if anything in particular went right for the long-suffering simulator.

The FSW developers did a lot that was right in this sim, and was sad to see a product come to such an abrupt end after showing so much promise. It would have been amazing by now if they had continued. Clearly some poor management decisions, which included forcing 3rd party developers having to sell through Dovetail, along with general distrust for them at the time, are the main reason for it's demise.
Still - I'm glad I own the sim and I still love it, and do hope that one day the project will be resurrected, no matter how unlikely that seems now. It's just too good to be left gathering dust.
Oh My God, how strange you did this video when Microsoft was about to reenter the flight simulator scene in spectacular fashion. Whats even more interesting is that Microsoft had clearly been working on Flight Simulator 2020 prior to Dovetail pulling the plug on FSW. Clearly now FS2020 has pretty much superceeded anything Dovetail would and could have done and I'm delighted that to me it looks like they've had a close eye on technology from other sims and incorporated there own versions in FS2020, I'm refering to flight planning (FSW) volumetric clouds (FSW), scenery derived from satalite images (Orbx True Earth), animated people at airports (Orbx PeopleFlow), realistic ground rendering of grass and water (DCS World) to name some which spring to mind. Bascially what is exciting is that the most complete simulator of it's time is getting the 2020 update everybody wants.
I'm glad FSW got down, Knowing dovetail everything would have been a dlc
FSX is awesome but old and graphics are poor
Also, X plane is too realistic for me so when I first tried this simulator I was so excited.
I'm still flying with this simulator.
I hope Dovetail update this someday.
Default graphics looks so good, seems study level with all the aircraft, and simply looks amazing for BETA release. I hope they resurrect the project. It would have been a good sim if people modded it. Especially if big devs started making commercials planes (for the sim although it is a GA sim), if it were ever successful it would definitely compete against X-Plane or P3D, maybe even a chance of beating it. The clouds by default look so good as well. Not an FPS impacting sim.
They invested too much money into it, too early, hiring top level management. A little premature. Not letting devs like PMDG and lesser devs into the “game”. It really didn’t offer anything new.
May I ask what’s that folder swf menus in the installed directory of this flight sim ? I see this sim is missing loads of menus what fsx has ! Thanx
I bought this with so much hype. Sad to see its demise.

I still play FSW today. Awaiting for the new Microsoft Sim to drop on us in 2020.

Great video as always. Couple of annoyances for me was that you HAD to sit through those intros to the missions EVERY time. There was no way to skip them.
Also the sim just had a strange cartoon color palate. Reshade fixes this and its an essential thing for this sim.
They could have done a lot but alienating the big 3rd party providers was a big mistake.
Wow... your accent... so strong, I find it amazing. Sometimes you can fit 4 words into a millisecond! I'm American, very hard to understand :-) But thanks for the video, and no offense!
My accent is really not that strong! 😂😂😭😭 Glad you enjoyed the video nonetheless. Flight Sim World had always been an interesting topic in flight simulation.
@@Drawyah Did you move on to another sim, P3D/FSX/XP11? I'm just starting out but I like XP11 quite a bit.

I think Dovetail missed a trick tbh they had the career mode beta made right before they shut it down had they given it time i think that would of attracted alot of players to the sim. Im so suprised it has not been resurected or purchased by another dev it's such a waste because it was very good in my opinion.
Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction...I'm a second year aviation student looking to pick up a flight simulator game that would run on xbox one. I can't afford to build a PC capable of running the new Micro flight sim. All I'm really looking for, is a game title that gives me the ability to fly 172's. Is there such a game out there?
I'm afraid there is nothing. Xbox Series X/S will get the new Microsoft Flight Simulator, One will not receive it.

I think axed the product as it looked outdated, didn't had the base and maybe somehow they knew about the incoming new MFS 2020 and decided to cancel the project and return the crown to its King Microsoft.
I kinda want FSW...
It's likely possible to find a key on one of those third-party vendors, but don't expect much opportunity to pick FSW up anytime soon.
Easy, Microsoft took their ideas ind put them into Flight Simulator 2020.
it was scam all along. MS allready was making fs2020 LOL.why fs2020 music is same as FSW isnt it?
Music is different on both sims.
X-Plane is better...
