This time around Kia added a 2 door model dubbed the Koup but the car featured in this test drive video review is the 4-door model. The 2014 Kia Forte comes in 2 different trims (LX and EX) and ranges in price from $15,900 - $19,400. According to the EPA the Kia Forte is technically a mid-sized car but it does compete in the compact car class against cars like the Ford Focus, Honda Civic, and the Toyota Corolla.
The redesigned 2014 Kia Forte is one of the best looking cars in its class; in fact Kia vehicles in general look a lot better than they ever have. Under the hood there are 2 engine options: a 1.8 liter and a 2.0 liter that is only offered on the EX model. The 2.0 liter 4-cylinder engine makes 173 horsepower and 154 lb-ft of torque and the engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy ratings are 24 MPG in the city and 36 MPG on the highway.
Inside the Kia Forte the front seats are very comfortable. Our tester car had the optional Premium Package which costs $2600 and adds a whole host of upgrades including: Power Sunroof, Leather Seat Trim, Heated Front Seats, Heated Steering Wheel, Push-Button Start w/Smart Key, and a 10-Way Power Adjustable Driver's Seat.
The 2014 Kia Forte is one of the best looking cars in its class, it is technologically advanced, it is roomy and comfortable. The Forte has everything you are looking for in a small car and if you need something like this then visit the dealership and take one for a test drive.

I love my Forte. I drive in Eco mode and get 32mpg on my normal weekly driving, and 43 mpg on the highway on long drives. I think it gets decent get up and go when passing and going up hills. Very happy with my Forte!
I purchased a 2014 Forte EX and I am getting 32-34 in a mix. His 24 is not typical for this vehicle. Love my choice.
I agree, I am getting ~30MPG mixed with a heavy right foot. But when I have it in ECO I do not fight it.
I also purchased a Kia Forte EX 2014 about three weeks ago. And I'm totally in love with it. What a great little car. Well.... not that little... since I'm 6'2" tall and I have plenty of room for my legs and head in it. Those leather seats are very comfortable. Mine is Aurora Black color and it really looks badass. I have had Toyotas, Hondas and Scions in the past and this Kia blows them all away. Looks and feels way more expensive than it really is. So happy a went with Kia instead of the Hyundai Elantra.
With my optima iam getting 29 combined with eco mode,,and i drove the forte for 3 days and i put around 300km and i got 31mpg maybe hes too fat thats why,,
1st 1000 miles, I averaged 32.7 MPG. 2nd 1000 miles, I averaged 34.5. For the 3rd 1000 miles, I'm running 33.4 MPG. I'm no granny behind the wheel but I drive sensibly and have floored to pass multiple times as needed. So how this guy only got 24, I'll never know. It has plenty of power. I do agree on the ECO mode. Just forget it. Drive it sensibly and you'll get great mileage. I highly recommend this car. I love it.

Recently test drove this car and very surprised to find it is a much more eager and nimble car than the Mazda3 (certainly the smaller engine version, and maybe the bigger engine too). Seemed like a fun car in this segment.
Chris, about the poor MPG you encountered, did you consider your size?
I have a 12 civic and I never have the ex button on it feels exactly as the man in this video said it sucks especially trying to get on the freeway .. Without it I still get 27mpg in the city so I'm happy about it
Thanks for a great review. I agree, it is such a disappointment that Kia isn't producing the mpg it is advertising in the real world. 5 mpg is too big a gap. Otherwise it is such a nice car.
Of the Compact cars that have both a sedan and a hatchback/or coupe version. Which do you prefer? For some reason the compact car class, I see more sedans than hatchbacks that are driven.
Will wait for the Forte5 with the 201 HP Turbo and manual transmission.

isn't da 1.6L turbo was introduced by kia few months ago ??!.
This guy is as heavy as two of me. That will make a big difference in gas mileage.

No, I can't decide between the two of them haha.
Test drove both.But Sorry hands down Mazda 3 beats both Corolla & Forte..lol.But give Toyota credit for final changing the design it both inside&out.Looks way better.But I find the curves aren't as aggressive looking as the Mazda 3 or Forte. I find the interior of the Corolla Cluttered a little.I use2own a Camry which was an amazing reliable car.But driving the Corolla it felt like the same CVT engine but way slower&smaller.Its basically driving a slower Camry.Forte looks way better than before.Interior is just ok compared to the Mazda 3&Elantra&Civic.But the Exterior of the Forte is good.But looks pretty close to the Elantra.But the Elantra looks a little better.I use2drive around my Brothers 2012 Elantra.So the Forte looks boring for me.
Cant say enough good things about the Mazda3.Fun car2drive,Best milage in its class&it even beats out on the Electric/hybrid cars in its class for gas Milage while still giving U the power for fun driving.Great reliablity, lots of electronics, Lots of Luxury & it won many awards in proving it is the best. The looks of the car from the side looks like a Bmw.And interior looks like an Audi or Bmw. With its control knob & touch screen thats mounted eye level to the road. Perfect size thats 7 inches.If its any smaller it would be too hard to see.If its any bigger,it would obstruct ur view on the road.
Mazda won car of the year for Autoguide.ca. Not just in its class but overall best vechile & beat out Mercedes & Cadillac models. Out of the top 5 cars Mazda 6 was right behind & a close 2nd place.
Also just wanted to let everyone know I hated the old Smiley faced joker Mazda 3 cars.Thank god the new 2014 models dont have that..lol.I thought the old Speedometers looked ok with their gauges. But the radio controls & temperature controls looked cluttered&all over the place.Also used cheaper plastics. But not now..lol
Toyota has a CVT. I'll go with the Forte. In fact.... I'm getting a Forte tomorrow. After spending a whole month doing research on this compact section..... I've decided to go Kia. Just because I really hate that "smiley face" of the Mazda 3. What an ugly car that Mazda is. And the Focus gets to expensive if you want all the extra features. The Forte has a better engine than the Elantra... so, yeah.... the Kia Forte EX is the one for me. In black!
Ariel Cordero Aaah I would agree with U about the OLD Mazda 3's having the stupid Ugly Smiley faces of the front of the 2013 models or older & I hated those. But the 2014&2015 dont have that buddy. Now they are wider&longer. With more seating space especially in the backseat's & the trunk. And the inside interior looks like the luxury cars with a 7inch Touch screen on the top of the dash just like Lexus, BMW, Audi & Mercedes..lol. Dude U didnt do ur research in the Compact class or even test drove the car cause U would have seen it with ur own eyes..lol.
I test drove all 3 cars mentioned & hands down Mazda 3 has way better handling & power. Its the Best in its class on Gas Mileage because of their Skyactive Technology engines..lol. It even beats out some Diesel engines like the Cruze in Gas mileage. But of course the Hybrid cars like the Prius are better cause its a Hybrid.
Hands down Mazda 3 is the best in its class for 2014. And they have the awards to back it up..lol. 2015 should be the same result.
Autoguide named the Mazda 3 their car of the yr. Not only in its class but it beat out Mercedes, Cadillac..lol
Chevy was there also. But 2 Mazdas were in the top 5. 2nd place would have been the Mazda 6. That car won awards as well. RX5 crossover won awards in its class as well.
On a side note U mentioned Kia Forte having a better engine then the Hyundai Elantra. Yes that is correct. But as far as gas mileage goes. The Elantra is better than the Forte. So it depends what he is looking for right???
But for Mazda U get a little of everything.
Plus for Mazda 3 your getting quality because they use higher quality Tensile steel. Only Nissan started copying Mazda & using it. Its lighter for better gas mileage & speed. But is also stronger than steel than what Kia & Hyundai use..lol.
Also only Mazda3 & Ford Focus use multi-suspension. No other car in its class use it..lol. So ur paying for quality with the Mazda cars..lol.

Theres a reason why car reviewers always choose the Focus & Mazda 3 as the best handling cars year after year..lol. Its because of the better suspension & steering feel..lol. With better quality materials used.
Btw if U did ur Research properly Consumer Reports named the top reliable car brands in the last few yrs.
Kia didnt even make the passing grade or top 20. Same with Hyundai & even Honda. Recent Hondas have had Electronic problems.

1) Lexus
2) Toyota
3) Acura
4) Audi
5) Mazda
And just letting U know that I really really hated the old Stupid looking Mazda 3 smiley faces. Now the car just looks mean & aggressive. Way better curves & more aggressive looking than the Corolla or Forte..lol.
My brother has a 2012 Hyundai Elantra Limited Sedan. I drove that car all the time. The new Forte exterior looks almost the same. But in my opinion the Hyundai exterior looks a little better. But for the inside interior the Hyundai looks way better. Well for the Elantra Im talking about the top of the line with the limited models:)

Well, you're a big boy...weight does hamper performance. When tested by MotorTrend this vehicle went 0-60 under 8 seconds. With that said, thank you for your review. Oh and why is it that this vehicle test site seems only have very large people test driving their cars? Or has the whole country become supersized? Yes, I know that was harsh, but people, with over 30 percent of the American population classified as obese...it would seem the statistics accurate.
29 mpg to 24? Time to sue Kia again. I honestly thought they already solved the false mpg advertisement issue.
I deliver pizza in this car and i get 26 mpg. Constant stop and go. I also get 28 or 29 mph highway and city combined. I don't think you're driving it right
If this isn't at sea level, this whole review is crap. Unless it is then never mind. I see mountains and can only assume it isnt. Power and fuel economy take a hit at elevation.
Pushing the pedal harder especially from a dead start is where you lost your mpg. Driver FAIL, driver not acceptable.
the ECO crap what catches people's attention is bs, new cars get heavier, have smaller displacement etc. Forget performance on most of these econocraps.
Not a good tester for he is too big.
Maybe your car was a dud.
