Diy vintage turquoise paint technique

  • Add some impact with turquoise blue paint, stain and a few tricks of the trade!
    in this video I use the term "white wood" this doesn't mean white painted wood, it simply refers to the species of wood such as fir / pine / spruce etc that are white in colour.
    This effect needs to be completed on bare wood - either a new build piece or a complete stripped down item.
    You can use the brushing technique over a previously stained item of furniture - however you will need to degloss the existing clearcoat that's on there by wiping it over with some TSP or Similar.
    Colours used in this tutorial are
    Paint:
    Beautitone Cabinet and Furniture Paint - Blue Bliss (sorry its a Canadian brand :( )
    Stain:
    Minwax Provincial
    Minwax Red Mahogany or Red Oak
    Varathane (Rustoleum) Dark Walnut
    Top coat
    Helmsman Spa Urethane - Gloss

    I am new to distressing wood. I have watched countless videos that did not have what I wanted. Although not exactly what I am looking for, this lady has shown me techniques and ideas that I can use for my specific projects. Thank you!

    Love it! By starting with white paint and using the stain on top you show how you can make any piece look like an old beautiful antique. I have an eighties cheap armoire that I’ve chalk painted white and is totally dull and boring that I’m going to do this to. Thanks so much for the great tutorials! Looking forward to more. 😊

    You can also try stomping your brush on a plastic plate to mash off extra paint... then you have the precise amount of paint on your brush for drybrush techniques.

    I’d love to try this on a coffee table. I’m not sure how I would do that though since the stain would raise the grain and require more sanding killing the effect you achieved on that door. Looks awesome

    • @frankcanales2270
      @frankcanales2270 4 роки тому

      Use an oil based stain. I've never had a problem with the grain raising. It only happened when I used a water based stain (grabbed by accident).

      Big fuck'n word asshole! Lol...That is what I sometimes say to myself after using a, "High Vocabularic Word." Normally though, the word I use goes with the rest of the sentence. Maybe I'm wrong here. Maybe I just haven't been awake long enough and haven't taken enough narcotic pain killers for my brain to function properly. Long story short, I don't think that, "intuitive," is the word you were looking for. Perhaps, "Innovative," would be more appropriate. Just trying to help. That's what I do. God bless and keep up the great grammar.

    • @baileyb3977
      @baileyb3977 7 років тому +3

      bcurrin87 you can paint over anything with chalk paint without sanding first. It depends on the look you want and the condition of your piece

    • @rusticduckfurniture4744
      @rusticduckfurniture4744  7 років тому +6

      bcurrin87 whilst you absolutely can paint over anything with chalk paint - the stain won't penetrate into a surface thats already finished so do do this exact effect the wood had to be bare

    • @rusticduckfurniture4744
      @rusticduckfurniture4744  7 років тому +1

      Erika Chacon it's not a wax coat it's a spa urethane which is like a thick clear coat but absolutely not a must. once your paint and stain finish is totally dry (24 - 48 hours) you could use something like a satin polyurethane for a lower sheen finish!!
