I found some black sand at a craft store. I've been gluing it down and very lightly dry brushing color on it; white, silver or any tan/beige have all looked pretty nice. My question tho, how do you make your grass tufts?

This looks great ! Definitly going to do this on my models. Could I use actually sand for this? I live near a beach, could I just fill a pot up and use that? Great video though very informative and helpful! Good job !

I have seen a few videos where painters do this. Just make sure to bake it in the oven before use. This kills all the bacteria and germs in the sand.

Great tutorial! Will be trying this out for the Plague Marines I'm painting. Should also get good contrast given they are also green :)

So, this may sound like a stupid question, but when the base dries does it become stable/solid enough to just be able to glue the model right on top of the "desert sand"?

J F I'd always glue the model on first, completely paint that and do the base last, just my preference

i pin my models to the bases using a paper clip

@@1989Lynx another way to do this is to mark where the feet will be and paint around them.

For the model you might wanna pin it before you do all the steps in the tutorial so you get a clear plastic on plastic adhesion . Then before you paint create a ''scenic glue'' wich is roughly equal parts rubbing alcohol and pva glue and just drip it all around the base to get everything soaked in glue without obscuring the detail on the surface. It ensures everything dries into a solid chunk and you don't have to worry about losing bits and pieces of sand during use

Very nice work! You mentioned that you built the tufts by your own. What Kind of tufts do you suggest for desert bases?
