    • @QuarterPaint

    • @QuarterPaint

      Probably if you intend to game with the minis a lot. You will loose some of the "dusty" quality of the pigments with a varnish or sealer

    Dont you have that problem with Agrellan Earth when basing miniatures after fully paining the base that miniatures sometimes just break off “scales” of cracked earth and fall from the base?

    • @johnmclaughlan491

    @petem578 5 років тому +1

    Did you seal the pigments down, or matt vanished over base?

    • @QuarterPaint
      @QuarterPaint  5 років тому

      You lose some of the effect or vibrancy with a clear coat, but that will keep it in place!
      However, sort of "scrubbing" the pigments into place surprisingly keeps them on the mini and they don't really rub off unless you are actively trying to

    Hey bud I've been using this guide and have a couple questions. My first base turned out brilliant, all cracked just like I wanted but subsequent efforts haven't been cracking as much and appear more mottled. Is it the thick application that cracks or the thinner parts? I've been mixing it up on practice bases but to no avail. Thanks

    • @QuarterPaint
      @QuarterPaint  5 років тому +1

      I have found that thicker you apply this texture paint the larger and more pronounced the cracks are. You can vary thicknesses to get some textural variety.
      However that being said, Ive heard from a few people that they have had issues with this texture paint and it not creating the cracking effect. I had a friend who bought two separate bottles that didn't crack.
      Perhaps try using something to mix the bottle up really well before applying and try applying varying levels of thickness to determine how to best to get the effect you like.

      @@QuarterPaint thank you so much for reply, the second I seen this guide I knew it was how I wanted to do my army so I appreciate the after care haha. I think I've been getting thinner as I go. Got plenty of spare bases to keep trying until I nail it though. T|hanks again

    thanks! One thing I would like to ask is if and how you seal the base after applying pigments.

    • @QuarterPaint
      @QuarterPaint  5 років тому +3

      I didn't go to heavy on the pigments. So when used lightly they don't move around much. But I think a thin coat of a matte varnish with the airbrush would work to ensure everything stays where you want it

    • @insguy
      @insguy 5 років тому

      @@QuarterPaint thanks!

  • @elronman
    @elronman 5 років тому

    Any reason you didn't zandri dust with an airbrush?

    • @QuarterPaint
      @QuarterPaint  5 років тому

      for the first coat of color I found it easier to get into all the cracks with a stiff bristled brush. You could do it with an airbrush, but you would have to make sure you are coming from multiple angles to get into all the small cracks and such.

    • @elronman
      @elronman 5 років тому

      @@QuarterPaint ah okay, I figured with the primer the spray worked either way, and for some reason you just switched to a brush for a single coat.
      I really have to try this though, love the way you worked in the other red and brown earth tones besides your basic yellow sand.
