I'm getting ready to sow my first jalapeño pepper seeds. I'm in Kansas (6b) so I know about wind. This video was perfect timing for me. THANK YOU!

I’m 6b up here in northern Michigan too! (On the coast so protected by the lake effect) I just started my personal pepper seeds this past weekend, by far one of my favorite garden plants to grow! Thanks for watching :)

Another well done video! I always appreciate your hard work and attention to details. I have a question for my cayenne pepper plant. Would this approach work for that type of pepper plant? I am a pepper rookie.

Thank you so much! I have definitely topped cayenne peppers before and they handle it well! Top early, when your plant is smaller (2-3 sets of leaves) and don't combine any other stressful activity with it (like repotting or additional pruning). You should start to see new branches poking out above each existing node. Oftentimes the original leaves that were on the plant when you first topped it may start to look a little weak, but this is normal. A lot of the plant's energy is going into driving that new growth so it can be common to see existing foliage struggle. Within a few weeks you'll have healthy, green growth and twice as many branches!
My other tip for growing cayennes (or any pepper) is to think about where they naturally grow. Cayennes are a tropical or sub tropical pepper so they like consistent heat and moderate humidity. Keep a humidity dome on your seedlings until you top, after you top make sure you're keeping your pepper in a protected area from wind or cold temps! Let me know how it goes!
