Fun stuff! I am going to plant some more potatoes in the coming days. My process for my first fabric container was a little bit different, but I look forward to seeing how you recommend doing the hilling 👊🏻🌻👊🏻

I used to always use the fabric bags but these hot Michigan summers seemed to dry them out so quickly! The plastic pots seemed to be a little more forgiving for me to skip a day here and there. I have some really nice sprouts popping up already and will likely be hilling in the next week or two - video to follow!

Very helpful video. I know why my potato yield was so bad last year. I did it all wrong. Thank you.

Ok. Figured it out! Since Perlite is readily available here, can I substitute at same 50/50 mix with potting soil? Thank you.

Sorry for the delay! Coco Coir!

I would not substitue perlite at a 1:1 ratio with coco coir (I think that's what you're asking?). Roots can't grow through perlite, they have to grow around. But they can grow through coco coir. Perlite is an excellent addition for root aeration and better drainage, but I would do more of a 25% perlite/75% soil mix with that!

This year I'm growing taters in several ways. First in a pile of last years container dirt, which was a mix of stuff, they seem to be doing very well so far, some in grow bags, some in tubs, and some under straw, they are doing well too. I like to prepare my raised bed with some bone meal and some potassium about a month before planting. Makes nice big taters.

I love this! I’m a big fan of trying out different methods to grow the same crop (I do indoor hydroponics as well). It’s always very interesting to me to figure out which method has the highest yield, biggest plant, or is most forgiving when it comes to watering etc. I tend to stick to the methods that are most forgiving because I have a bad habit of totally ignoring my garden for a few days here and there 😉 I hope you have success this year!
