The raised bed/bath tub intro was hilarious! I wish i had as much room as you for my garden, so far i have 6 total beds i believe they're 2x4x12" and 3x6x12" going to be buying what i need to fill them tomorrow but gonna have to wait till the weekend to be doing it (it's been over 40c this week) way too hot... I will be doing like you and mulching because I'm just north of you across the pond (Canada) and we do have some scorching days!
Thank you as always for the great videos, you look fantastic as always ❤

Hahah I appreciate the shoutout for the intro- I’ve been trying to get a little more creative with the videos! We’re so fortunate to have acreage up here, we’re further out from any main town but totally worth it for extra land and privacy. We’re sharing in the toasty weather, it hit 87 today! I was worried the metal raised beds would scorch the plants, but they’ve done a good job with managing the heat! Fortunately cooler temps ahead next week. Thanks for tuning in!

@BrightLaneGardens I like the silly style intro you made 😊
Yeah same I also worry the beds will get ridiculously hot! Here it was somewhere above 90-95 American degrees so yeah we definitely share the heat specially with "very high UV" today oof... 🥵
I need to add more shade cloth too and unfortunately had some rascals dig up all my tomato plants but my peppers are fine still sucks though 😭

@@BrightLaneGardens My hostas were beautiful once but the white tailed deer think they are their candy.

Great video! I chose not to line the bottom of my raised bed as my yard has a bazillion nightcrawlers, and I wanted them to access my raised bed (they found it quickly). HOWEVER...the soil level has dropped nearly 6 inches in only 3 months. I haven't noticed any leakage around the bottom. I think it is all due to settling. My 3.5' x 6.5' x 17" raised bed took 30 1cuft bags of raised bed mix after filling the bottom with 6" of branches, twigs, leaves and other yard debris!! I anticipate having to add another 12 -15 bags next season. Even with Hügelkultur, it has been pricey to fill. This is my first ever vegetable garden. Live and learn, right??

I was sooo hesitant to do the weed fabric at the bottom! I like to let nature do its thing when it comes to soil health. But with the investment in the mulched area we really wanted to keep everything tidy. I am hoping a few insects were already living in the debris that will come out to play :) I was BLOWN AWAY by how much material it took to fill these! I had 5 of the deep ones and 2 shallow ones. So many wagon trips! At least we only have to do this once, right?

~2:25 Soil is “organic material”… 😂. Without hardware cloth you may have more than plants living in your raised beds, rats or gophers/moles in the bottom of the raised beds too (esp. with logs/wood at the base).

Yah, thanks. I meant larger organic material (like the logs/wood), and most people understand that. The fabric and setup of my beds will protect from smaller mammals, but I gained some healthy insect activity from the debris so my soil is happy and so are the plants.
